The rules are different when it’s one of their own;
NBC News chief foreign correspondent Richard Engel has gone missing in Syria, according to Turkish news reports. The reports also say that Aziz Akyavaş, a Turkish journalist working with Engel, is unaccounted for. NBC News has been successfully keeping Engel’s status subject to a news blackout—one to which Gawker agreed until now—for at least the past 24 hours.
Here’s hoping he’s found safe and sound.

The same happened when Melissa Fung of the CBC was kidnapped in Afghanistan – a complete blackout until she was released. Now if it had been a non-journalist, they would have been all over the story.

I hope the guy gets released. But not before he gets passed around from terrorist to terrorist like a wine skin at a Grateful Dead concert. Maybe getting his rectum stretched a bit will give him some insight into the true nature of Islam. It will have to take a truly traumatic exoerience for a member of the press to stop singing the praises of the “religion of peace” and show them for the savages they really are.

I’m sure he will be fine. The Muslim freedom fighters on both sides are only interested in social justice and a transparent transition to a democracy that has provisions for women, gays and minorities. Who ever has him are probably feeding him a scoop.
NBC will release the “Daniel Pearle” video of him when the administration decides to send troops to Syria. Gotta have something to ramp up the “emotions” of the sheeple at the right time.
