Don Cornell (born Luigi Francisco Varlaro) was a vigorous baritone vocalist from the Bronx who had a string of dramatically romantic hits in the 40s and 50s. Tonight, he impressively delays the end of a relationship with an extended lamentation called This Is the Beginning of the End.

Welfare spending equates to $168 per day for every household in poverty.
Re: Don Cormell.
Great voice!! Thanks!
Re: Welfare spening at $168 per day. Given the average cost of administrative fees in similar departments, I would guess that is a very Conservative figure!!
We can only guess at what Biden meant by this:

Mr. Dorval was fired for refusing to bow to the school board’s policy of not giving zeros (Edmonton). Now it appears that the new policy will permit giving zeros.
Rush Limbaugh hinted the other day that he wants to buy airtime to address the nation. He quickly dismissed it as something that wouldn’t be worthwhile but I’ve been thinking that he might actually do it. Someone has to get the word out that Obama wants to raise everyone’s taxes and wants to blame it on republicans for political purposes. That’s pretty despicable even for him.
It’s probably nothing.
Chart: Unsold Cars Are Piling Up, Mainly American Ones
Just searching for some stocks to get my teenagers for Christmas and found this 2013 budget released by crescent point yesterday. I am not plugging the stock just thought of SDA & we don’t need no stinking fans….
Crescent Point expects to spend approximately $510 million of its 2013 budget in the Viewfield Bakken and Flat Lake areas of southeast Saskatchewan, including drilling approximately 163 net wells in the Viewfield area and 15 net wells at Flat Lake. Crescent Point plans to continue to invest in infrastructure projects to accommodate continued growth of the Company’s Bakken production, including preliminary expenditures related to the expansion of the Viewfield gas plant to 42 mmcf/d from 30 mmcf/d.
In the Shaunavon area of southwest Saskatchewan, Crescent Point plans to spend approximately $283 million of the 2013 budget, including drilling approximately 89 net wells, which will target both the Lower Shaunavon and the Upper Shaunavon resource plays. Crescent Point plans to continue to invest in infrastructure projects to accommodate production growth in this play, including the expansion of the Dollard rail facility to more than 10,000 bbl/d from 4,000 bbl/d.
Black Mamba, Obama can’t get enough of ‘himself.’
He gets a big kick out of mocking traditional American values. I find him repulsive.
Van Jones is a close second.
And to think they endorsed the big O. So much for walking the talk.

“Sigrid Undset Crosses Russia: The Remarkable Case of Back from the Future (1942)”
“Seeing things plain, not lying to oneself, not subscribing to the delusions of others – these virtues, seemingly so simple, prove in life difficult to achieve and tricky to exercise. An inevitable imitative pressure assimilates people to one another so that mere opinion, received but never vetted, comes to function as a surrogate reality, in the cave-like error of which people stumble about their errands in a lurching mockery of witting behavior. The ancients worried about false or second-hand judgment (doxa) or about superstition. Modern people must grapple with ideology. The critique of ideology is the single most important exercise that an individual can undertake who wants to stand in truth and by his own lights against the conformist pressure of public opinion, or what dissenters nowadays call political correctness.
Norwegian author Sigrid Undset (1882–1949), born to a family of Danish freethinkers and raised in Norway in an atmosphere of urbane secularity, confronted the hollowness of that ethos in the aftermath of World War One when she shocked her familiars by embracing Roman Catholicism. If the critical writings of the Dane Georg Brandes (1842–1927) summed up the turn-of-the-century “Cultural Leftist” attitude in Scandinavia, then Undset would have represented the most decisive repudiation imaginable of Brandesian liberalism – atheistic, socialistic, scornful of inherited custom, as it was, and eager to see realized its notion (its vague notion) of a bold new political order toppling every inherited custom and evaluation. Undset championed tradition, remaining critical of any supposed liberation from norms.
Beginning with her vast Nobel Prize winning trilogy about medieval Norway, Kristin Lavransdatter, begun in the teens of the century and completed in 1922, Undset undertook a literary, hence indirect but also thorough, critique of the pervasive liberalism-progressivism of European civilization.”

Watch out for those deadly phone calls.

“people from London to Sydney have been making the assumption that she died because of stress from the call.”
“The hospital did not comment when asked whether it believed the prank call had directly caused Saldanha’s death, only saying that the protest letter spoke for itself.”
“No one could have foreseen the tragic consequences of the prank, he stressed.”
I’m at a complete loss of words.
Spengler at PJ Media has an excellent column on the disastrous state of the Egyptian economy.
He is saying that it faces economic ruin, with an inability to meet the basic food needs of its citizens. Egypt imports half its food and it is becoming financially unable to afford these imports. Consider also that the lack of a middle class capitalist small business economy means that most Egyptians require govt subsidies in order to live.
“Morsi demanded dictatorial powers last week in large part because the exigencies of Egypt’s economic position–a $36 billion trade deficit, equivalent to an astonishing 16% of GDP, and a budget deficit of 11% of GDP–required cuts in subsidies for necessities, which take up nearly half of the country’s budget. A $4.8 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund was supposed to give Egypt breathing room until the Morsi government could persuade private investors t meet the gap, presuming that Morsi could get the gigantic deficits under control. It appears that Morsi’s attempt to gain the political leverage needed to address the deficits has blown up in his face, and prompted capital flight. The country’s stock market has fallen by 25% since mid-September.”
He recommends the opposite of the Obama Gang’s actions:
•First, we should recognize that there are some disasters beyond our capacity to fix. Egypt is the victim of sixty years of mismanagement and corruption.
•Second, we should not throw good money after bad. American taxpayers are under no obligation to pour money down the drain.
•Third, we should actively support the secular opposition led by Mohamed al-Baradei. I do not believe that al-Baradei could govern Egypt more effectively than Morsi, but anything–including prolonged chaos–is better than the consolidation of a totalitarian state under the Muslim Brotherhood”.
“Al-Masry Al-Youm Reports
On Brotherhood Torture Chambers”
“Al-Masry Al-Youm spent three hours in total in the torture chambers established by the Muslim Brotherhood at the gates of the Ittihadiya Palace in the suburb of Heliopolis. The central torture chamber, which is located in front of the gate facing the Omar Ibn Abdel Aziz Mosque on al-Merghany Street, is secured with a cordon and iron barriers, where the Central Security Forces (CSF) prevent the access of any persons without the authorization of the Brotherhood.”

H/T Belmont Club:
“Bleeding From Behind”
“Accounts of the Muslim Brotherhood’s torture chambers in Egypt raise one of history’s most daunting questions. Why is evil seemingly unkillable? The scenes of torment might with variations be from the previous Egyptian regime. Indeed they might be from any torture chamber anytime in history. The initial beatings; the screenings, the offer of false hope and finally the process of breaking the prisoner’s will. It is all the same. Mubarak — Morsi– Mubarak. The faces have changed yet the story remains the same.
Timothy Snyder, the author of the book Bloodlands, makes the case that two evils in opposition do not always cancel each other out. In fact evils in close proximity can stoke each other’s infernal fires.”
http://pjmedia.com/richardfernandez/2012/12/08/bleeding-from-behind/#more-26191
I am currently reading Bloodlands and it is beyond me how people born and nurtured in the western liberal democracies can wish for leftist regimes, whether of the fascist or communist variety, to become the government. What is going on in the ME and North Africa, or elsewhere, is not new, as it has been that way since time began.
