  1. Excerpt from Jonah Golberg’s “Brain-lock inside the Beltway“:

You could confiscate 100 percent of income over $1 million, and it would cover about a third of the deficit (and crush the economy in the process). You’d still have to deal with spending, particularly entitlement spending. But the Democrats want to do . . . nothing. Or at least that’s the position they seemed to be taking this week.
The White House and the Democrats have been floating the idea that we can worry about entitlements later, if ever. The urgent thing is to raise taxes on the wealthy as soon as possible. When asked what he was prepared to cut, Senate majority leader Harry Reid said Wednesday, “Now remember, we’ve already done more than a billion dollars worth of cuts. We’ve already done that. So we need to get some credit for that.”
Okay, here’s the credit: That is about .09 percent of the deficit. Take .09 percent of a bow, Harry.

    The whole thing here.

  2. Kate: it seems that my computer is on the fritz. It erased half of my addresses and sent me to sites that I didn’t know about, and some of them were nasty. Sorryif I came down hard.

  3. What ever happened to long time SDA contributor “Vitruvius” and his own site “http://sagaciousiconoclast.blogspot.ca”?
Always enjoyed his enlightened and sometimes off-beat contributions.

“Solar firm that got $26M in Miss. loans is closing”
“JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Mississippi taxpayers may have only an empty Senatobia building and some solar panel equipment to show for nearly $26 million in loans provided to Twin Creeks Technologies.
The California-based solar technology firm is liquidating, and a company that bought Twin Creeks’ assets does not intend to take over its agreement with Mississippi. The contract called for Twin Creeks to invest at least $132 million and create at least 500 jobs.”

  6. On Dec 16 2007 Dan Fogelberg died from the ravages of prostate cancer.
I AM a prostate cancer survivor myself, but most of all, I AM a fan of the late Dan Fogelberg’s songs.
Especially of Olde Lang Syne in the the Christmas Season, for pure first love “nostalgia”!
    Priceless!!
Check out ALL of Dan Fogelberg songs, eh?

A band of prisoners responsible for enormous carnage — murders, rapes, vicious home invasions, kidnappings, beatings, bank robberies and the stabbing of a prison guard — is suing the Queen over their “awkward” and “uncomfortable” detention in prison.
They include Harvey Andres, 64, a motorcycle gang member, serial rapist, killer twice over and a repeat prison escapist.
“The court can clearly grasp that the plaintiffs are unhappy to the point of frustration, distraction and despair, with the circumstances of their imprisonment,” wrote Federal Court of Canada Justice Roger T. Hughes.

“There are two elements of this ongoing global catastrophe that are particularly maddening, and one of them is not the fact that the Republican leadership in the House just named a climate-change denialist — Lamar Smith of Texas — the chair the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. (Smith once famously observed that, “We now know that prominent scientists were so determined to advance the idea of human-made global warming that they worked together to hide contradictory temperature data.” Oy.)”

Wrap up… the icy mornings and chilly days will persist through to Christmas, weather experts have predicted.”
“The ability to predict SSWs is down to new weather modelling technology which was not available ahead of the “big freeze” in 2009, when months of snow, ice and temperatures as low as -22C came as something of a surprise.”

masters of decapitation, a la Robespierre, aka The Terror.
TO: “This week, it decapitated itself,”.
    Previous Liberal self-decapitation: Ontario’s McGuinty decapitated himself/itself.
The natural end result of left-liberalism:
TO > no Mayor. Ontario > no Premier.

    “Murphy: Send in Toronto’s clowns”
“Once presented to the world as a spic-and-span garden of multicultural delights, Toronto now has become a lurid reality show starring dysfunctional, petty and self-absorbed politicians — of whom Rob Ford is merely the most visible and annoying.
Toronto is the city that in 2010 spent a billion dollars hosting a summit meeting of eight people. This week, it decapitated itself, by throwing out a mayor (at least temporarily) for soliciting about $3,100 using stationery bearing city letterhead.
Toronto burns money on projects that go nowhere, painting and erasing bicycle lanes, ripping up rail lines for useless tramcars, creating and deleting grandiose public-transit plans.
How has Toronto — by its own fevered account, a “world-class” city — become a metropolis with no leader? Red Deer has a mayor. Clarenville has a mayor. But not Canada’s largest city.”

  11. Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi
“The Obama administration is playing the role of Saudi Arabia’s private army. I think if Americans knew this, they would be outraged. Our service men and women are being sold out as mercenaries for the wants and desires of the Royal family, for the Saudi’s interests. It’s about religious dominance and oil. Who is really benefiting from, say, what’s going on in Egypt? Mubarek is out, and the Muslim Brotherhood is in. Who does that benefit? Saudi Arabia.”

  13. Live entertainment at the Alberta Legislature! CTVA has daily coverage of question period / no answer period. Mrs. Smith has gone to Edmonton! Redfraud hides behind the skirt of her deputy premier; the seller of Alberta has lost her ability to speak.
Hugely entertaining ! Ignored by msm. The tobacco lawsuit conflict of interest (in capitals) has been ‘answered’ with questions to a Liberty defending lass (Mrs. Smith) about why she (Mrs. Smith) defended the right of adults to make up their own mind about smoking tobacco! Nanny state is defendable?? Wake up Albertans – Big Al and her thugs will be Big Mama/’et’ thugs with big UN fire sticks – and the big SHE will rule your lives – not just what you eat, smoke and drink..what you say and where you go too.

“Disgraced Quebec politicians showered in taxpayer cash”
“The latest Quebec politician to resign in shame and collect money is Richard Marcotte, the former mayor of Mascouche, a town just north of Montreal, who left office Friday. He is facing charges including fraud and corruption relating to an alleged municipal contract kickback scheme.
QMI Agency learned that the disgraced politician has already received a cheque worth over $70,600. He is also expected to collect another payment of over $87,000 in the next 90 days to help him transition to a new job.”
