    Lord Justice Leveson said that the debate about whether Prince Harry’s behaviour (playing strip billiards in Vegas) was in the public interest did not justify publishing the pictures. He said: “What transpired and what the photographs revealed was graphically described in print. The debate did not need the pictures.”
    He said that The Sun ignored the “large number of people who do not want to see the photographs”, adding: “The fact that something is on the internet does not justify its publication in a newspaper.”

    In his post-inquiry report, released yesterday, Leveson proposes an independent body with the force of the law behind it which would regulate media conduct.

    His lordship has given a clear picture of who he wants to (as he put it) “guard the guardians”. It would have been ex-lawyers, professors of journalism (yes, they exist) and other similar worthies – who are likely to have an inbuilt bias against the tabloid press. This helps to explain why the Media Standards Trust (and its offshoot, Hacked Off) has been lobbying so hard for press regulation: it would mean a world where its members would be the likely guardians. And Leveson proposes that this board is “validated” by (and, ergo, is friendly to) the government.

  6. I was just reading the comments on Y2Kyoto: Conserative war on science Posted Nov/29/2012. The comments that were posted in my name were NOT the comments that I posted. I checked them carefully and they were close but some of the meaning was gone. I don’t know how this was accomplished, but somehow or someone retyped them. If this is true it has to be investigated.     What it does do is enable plants to grow.
    I learned in school that the atmosphere is 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen.
    Of the remaining one percent, 93.4% is argon. That leaves a whole 0.066% of the total for other gases, including carbon dioxide. That’s not a whole lot of CO2 for plants to breathe in (although what does exist might be concentrated at ground level).
    So shouldn’t we think twice before trying to interfere with the plants’ supply of CO2?
