In tonight’s video amusement en route to the Tips, D.C.-based performer Joey B the VeePee, free for the moment from his chains, shows off his mad skilz during an impromptu solo musical performance in Florida.
Now, someone call the cops.

  1. The Democrats continue to do what they do best:

The 41-second spot begins by showing new text that asks: “Remember what Paul Ryan did to Granny?”
After again showing a man in a dark suit pushing a frightened elderly woman in a wheelchair to the edge of a cliff, the new text reads: “Mitt Romney made his choice…”
Once the man has again thrown the woman over the edge, the text continues: “Now you have to make yours,” and concludes by asking: “Is America beautiful without Medicare?”

The ad is running in three swing states, including the markedly geriatric state of Florida.

  2. Anyone who studies the issue knows that Medicare in the U.S. is going to go broke in less than 15 years. The new advertisement that EBD referenced shows you how incredibly cynical, destructive, and thoughtless the Democrats are. They don’t care about the future beyond November.
British Columbians shouldn’t be surprised at this callousness. After all, the kissin’ cousins of the Democrats north of the border have seized power in BC twice. Both times the NDP bankrupted the province and both times they were unapologetic and publicly denied the facts.
Leftists most everywhere are a Clear and Present Danger. They’re like locusts who descend on a farm, have a big party while there’s good eatin’ and then leave the place in ruins.
This pattern of behaviour is crystal clear yet they can almost always consistently count on at least 40% of the brainwashed citizens to vote for them. Teachers unions everywhere should be sued for failing miserably at teaching basic math & economics.

  3. Daniel Hannan: Here’s how we counter the BBC’s liberal bias.
    Excerpt:

Most BBC bias is unconscious and reflexive. When I tackled one editor on her failure to give airtime to that portion of the population – a clear majority of licence fee payers – who think that Britain would be better off outside the EU, she replied: “That’s their opinion, but we have to reflect the economic facts.” She genuinely couldn’t see that hers was just as much an opinion as her viewers’.

  4. The thing is, the Democrat ads and statements about Medicare are pure and total:lies.
First, Obama has stripped over 7 billion from the current Medicare funds to pay for his Obamacare. These funds came out of years of input by people who are now retired and are using these benefits that they saved up for.
Therefore, Medicare which is already in deep financial trouble, has been decimated by Obama. The Democrats never, ever, mention this action.
Second, Ryan’s Medicare plan doesn’t remove Medicare. It keeps it. Intact. No change for those now using it (the currently over 65). Remember, Obama has now taken over 7 billion from the current Medicare funds and his Obamacare will inevitably limit and regulate medical treatments.
And, Ryyan keeps it intact for those over the age of 55 who will be starting to use Medicare when they reach 65. In other words, for ten years, there’s no change to how you accumulate benefits and will use them.
It’s the under 55 where the changes come in, and this is the introduction of competition to the money that you invest in your future coverage. Ryan is suggesting that you can search out at least three medical insurance plans.
The government will give you the funds, from the investment pool, for the second lowest. If you consider your needs are less, and you choose the lowest bid, then, the government pays the rate for the second lowest…and gives you the extra money that you saved.
If you consider that you want a more expensive plan, then, you pay for that extra above the second lowest.
What this does is it retains Medicare as it is for those who are now using it and for the next set who will use it. And introduces moneysaving competition and choice for the sets that follow.
Obama’s plan, on the other hand, decimates the available funds for those now using Medicare and puts the future users all at risk for his Obamacare will inevitably reduce care.

  5. wallyj, rumor has it that Obama can find no takers. Understandable. When was the last time you saw a rat jump onto a sinking ship?

  6. ET, I think your post should read “700 billion” / a typo.
    wallyj:
I can’t see B. Hussien switching to Hillary. And he isn’t threatened by Joe BIden. The chance of her losing with B.Hussien is too great, and her name would be (is now?) poison for 2016. She’s said shortly after gaining the Secretary of State, that she wouldn’t be running again, for what that’s worth.

  7. Interesting Thought Experiment:
Close your eyes for a moment and imagine what would happen if the VP candidates, Paul Ryan and Joe Biden were swapped.
Do you think the portrayal of Ryan by the Democrats and the Media Party might change a bit?

  8. marc, thanks, you are right. Obama has taken over 700 billion from the current funds in Medicare to pay for his Obama care. Not 7 billion; 700 billion.
As for Joe Biden as VP, I saw on Greta tonight, Sarah Palin saying that Obama ‘has got to get rid of Biden’ and she suggested Hillary! But then said that this would help Obama and she didn’t want that!
I’m predicting that the Obama Gang will get Biden to leave. He’s an albatross whose gaffes divert attention from The Great One. After all, the Obama gang are now smarting from the current attention given to Romney and Ryan.
I predict that Biden will suddenly come down with a sudden unspecified and symptomless disease, which is great for massive sympathy, and he will resign. On his own. For his health. Heh.
And Hillary will be required to step in and fill the breach.

  9. Re ET’s 11:14 comment, the Romney team has released a new ad: Obama cuts Medicare to pay for Obamacare.
I think it’s the right approach. The Obamites aren’t constrained by the need to tell the truth, as ET noted, and this gives them almost endless liberty to air mindfully dishonest scare-tactic ads that will scare certain vulnerable groups of people. The best way to counter lies is with verifiable facts — even if they have to be delivered in a short, punchy manner suitable for 30 second ads.
I also like (in a retail politics sense) the memorable, polemic brevity of the phrase “Obama cuts Medicare to pay for Obamacare”. It succinctly and subtly broaches the topic of his narcissism and grandiosity, and the fact that his egotism is the driving force behind all the decisions he makes on behalf of “the people.”

  11. Robert, “They’re like locusts who descend on a farm, have a big party while there’s good eatin’ and then leave the place in ruins.”
If only more people realized how true that is.

  12. If the playing field were level Romney/Ryan would win an easy landslide, but when you’ve got the vast majority of the media spreading the lies for Obama you need an extra few points in the spread to make up for it. Add in the usual Democrat cheating as well and you need a few more. This election *should* be a cakewalk but I’m still nervous.

  14. Toronto Star, Thursday, Aug. 9, Thomas Walkom comes up with an analogy.
    http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/politics/article/1239020–walkom-harper-s-pipeline-about-face-is-anything-but
TW: “[The Conservative government] has refused to accept scientific evidence that shows violent crime is on the decrease, since doing so might cast doubt on its law-and-order agenda.”
“Instead, it insists that more murders and assaults are occurring but that no one is reporting them.”
“So, no. This is not an evidence-based government.”
Translation: “evidence-based” policy consists of blindly accepting statistics without any analysis.
As I recall the most recent articles on the subject said that crime overall was down but violent crime was up.

  16. Toronto Star, Sunday, Aug. 12. Phragmites the destroyer.
    http://www.thestar.com/news/insight/article/1240459–phragmites-australis-is-canada-s-worst-invasive-plant
Another worst invasive plant? Has the purple loosestrife outbreak of a decade ago been cleaned up? Now here’s a new plant problem that sounds like a Pokemon card.
“When Phragmites take over, animal life and especially species at risk — such as the spotted turtle and Fowler’s toad — disappear. Plant diversity vanishes. A wetland usually abundant in cattails, bulrushes and sedges becomes a deceptively beautiful monoculture.”
“Phragmites australis had been in Canada 100 years before it was recognized as an alien invader, says Paul Catling, a senior scientist at Agriculture Canada.”
“Today Ontario has 441 invasive plant species, more than any other province.”
If they’re all invasively taking over, which one wins? And who do we complain to when one natural species eradicates another?
“When Phragmites invaded the carefully nurtured wetlands at Tommy Thompson Park on the Leslie Street spit, staff tried injecting an herbicide directly into the stem to avoid contaminating native plants. But it was too time-consuming …”
“‘If we don’t stay on top of it, we could see the loss of native plants diversity we have tried to hard to get there.'”
If you’ve tried hard to foster “native plants diversity”, then it isn’t exactly nature at work here, is it?
As usual, the environmentalists are all for interfering with “natural” processes when it suits them, but heaven forbid that you should try it.

  21. The Obama/Pelosi thieves took 500 Billion from MY Medicare to fund Obama Care…funny they needed that much, but I guess GE wanted cash and the billionaire club (Spooky Guy) was short.
The other 200 Billion stolen must have happened post 2010, under a Republican House. Who was the bastard that approved those expenditures, when, how, why? Can we expect the theft of Medicare numbers to increase again and again..
These are the basic Questions I would like “all” candidates to answer. The MSM can’t ignore the right of Americans to know these answers and access to the supporting documentation.

  23. Because I believe “Atlas Shrugged” is more prophetic than government budgets or the hand-wringing of global warming alarmists, I was pleasantly surprised to see that when our Oriental brethren are faced with problems similar to those we face ourselves, they are prepared to execute a Rand-ian maneuver to side-step bureaucracy.

  24. Now, we have the military fighting back against Obama.
Specifically (since no current military member is allowed to criticize the CinC), it’s
“A group of former U.S. intelligence and Special Forces operatives called OPSEC is launching a media campaign to highlight the dangers of these high-level leaks in posing real threats to American lives”
More specifically, it’s about Obama The Narcissist’s constant claims that ‘I got Bin Laden’.
The ad says: “Mr. President, you did not kill Osama bin Laden, America did. The work that the American military has done killed Osama bin Laden. You did not,” Ben Smith, identified as a Navy SEAL, says in the film.
“As a citizen, it is my civic duty to tell the president to stop leaking information to the enemy,” Smith continues. “It will get Americans killed.”
    Hmm.

  25. Oh, and Obama revealed, within his boast that he, Obama ‘killed Bin Laden’, that he used Seal Team Six to ‘assist’ him.
A few weeks later, Al Qaeda set up a specific ambush, and killed 20 members of Seal Team Six.
That’s directly due to Obama’s boast about this.

  26. There is now a lot of talk about replacing Biden, possibly around August 24th, just before the GOP conovention.
If Hillary has any brains she’ll refuse, although she is the only one being suggested, and that, of course, is to reach out to those Democrats in the 2008 nomination who wanted her as the nominee.
Or, will Obama select someone else? An hispanic? A key problem is that the Democrats unlike the GOP have deliberately marginalized and prevented young new talent from entering the scene. Obama can’t handle competition.
But he has to get rid of Biden because he can’t carry the election alone. Never mind with Biden. He can’t carry it alone. He needs a ‘significant other’.

Communism’s Mao Stlong*: “re-education through labor system.”
    …-
“China’s Microbloggers Take On Re-Education Camps”
“Over the last two years, as China’s microblogging culture has expanded, observers inside and outside the country have found hopeful signs that the Communist Party is starting to respect and respond to public opinion voiced online. The most notable case comes from the town of Wukan, where, in December, villagers staged anti-corruption protests that quickly developed a national and supportive online constituency. The Party responded with elections for new local leaders.
Do these recent, allegedly populist, inclinations indicate a government more willing to shape policy to fit public opinion? Or are they just savvy public relations ploys designed to satiate angry online masses? The limits of what China’s Web activists can accomplish became clear this week, when outrage erupted over the mother of a kidnap victim’s political detention in China’s notorious re-education through labor system.
The re-education through labor system dates to the mid-1950s, when it provided local law enforcement with the right to sentence political dissenters without judicial review. In the subsequent decades, the 1957 law that institutionalized the practice has been modified and expanded such that it’s mostly applied to petty criminals like thieves and prostitutes, as well as to petitioners and other political irritants. On Monday, Du Jian, a popular social-media marketing expert in Beijing, tweeted a (now-deleted) explanation of the system to Sina Weibo, China’s most popular microblog:
They don’t use judicial procedures; if they use them, it’s just a perfunctory. The bad points of the system are: underage youths and political petitioners are among the majority of the persecuted and the environment of re-education through labor is very bad ….
The maximum sentence under the system is four years of often brutal forced labor (ranging from farm to assembly-line work) supplemented by the occasional bit of coercive political indoctrination.”
