Thanks a million for the oldies! Can`t help notice the mirror on the 57?? Plymouth or Dodge. (They were dash mounted.) Notice Mr. Diamond is sitting on the LH side of the vehicle, yet he`s behind the steering!
Now they did make cars like that for Australian and other Commonwealth exports. However I think it`s a negative B+W photo that got developped on the back side. Check out the shifter!
    Thanks again!

  2. Vίtruvius:
Opps sorry, just remembered, 57 Plymouth and Dodge TorqueFlite automatic had push button controls.

  3. Interesting column on Jo Stafford. The Telegraph is famous for it’s obituaries. They are always well written and interesting regardless of who they are about. I encourage all readers of SDA to spend a little time and click on some of the other obits along side on that page.

  4. Not really a tip … but an observation.
Today while driving out to Kenora Ontario to enjoy a few hours at Harbourfest …. spotted a car with Manitoba plates sporting and OBAMA bumper sticker.
Harbourfest car show was ok …. there were a few people sporting around on jet skis doing demo stunts…. the crowds overall were thin … although it appears that concert tickets were sold out in advance.

  5. Try going to Holland to buy a brown cow using only your Old English. It’s only slightly impossible.
(p.s. Eddie Izzard seems to look like Tim Curry now. Jussayin’.)

Curiousity rover reaches Mars tonight Curiosity is the size of a small sports car.
If they pull this off it will be a truly amazing feat of engineering. The vid at the HotAir link shows what NASA’s trying to pull off here. It’s not simple or straight forward.
    Live feed from NASA
(There maybe some prequel regarding the mission about an hour before but I’m not sure.)

The best sign in the slide show was:
“If you voted for Obama to prove you’re not a racist, vote for someone else to prove you’re not an idiot”.

    H/T The Ugly Chinaman*.
    …-
“Zambian miners kill Chinese manager during pay protest”
“Zambian miners have killed a Chinese manager by pushing a mine trolley at him during a riot at a coal mine in the south of the country.”
“A second Chinese was injured, as were several Zambians, during the riot on Saturday.
The workers were on strike at the mine in protest against delays in implementing a new minimum wage.
They were angry their wages were lower than a new minimum of $220 (£140) a month paid to shop workers.
Zambia’s minister of labour has gone to the Chinese-owned Collum coal mine in Sinazongwe, 325km (200 miles) south of the capital, Lusaka.
“Wu Shengzai, aged 50, has been killed by protesting workers after being hit by a trolley which was pushed towards him by the rioting miners as he ran away into the underground where he wanted to seek refugee,” Southern province police commissioner Fred Mutondo told state news agency, the Zambia News and Information Services.
“He died on the spot while his colleague is in hospital.”

  11. From OMMAG’s link;
Communist China will never dominate the world, for the same reason that Putin’s Russia has trouble dominating its own backyard. It’s a mafia state that opened up the system, but kept it crooked, and is feeding off it at a high enough rate that an economic setback will also lead to a dieback.
Exactly, the same crooks are in control that have always been in control. China will never amount to any more than it is now, a producer of second rate ‘stuff’.
What’s puzzling is that some people would want sell them our resources. I guess the same kind of people who would sell their grandmother for a few dollars.

  12. The United Church ‘speaks out’ on the Northern Gateway Pipeline. (Typical politically correct meddling.) The Anglican and Presbyterian churches follow suit.
“Next week, delegates at the United Church of Canada general council meeting in Ottawa are to debate a resolution that calls on the church to reject construction of the $6-billion Enbridge (TSX:ENB) project that would take diluted bitumen from Alberta to the British Columbia coast.
The resolution was drafted in support of aboriginals in B.C., who worry a spill would poison the land and water, and directs the church to send the results of its vote to the federal, B.C. and Alberta governments and the media.
Mardi Tindal, moderator of the United Church, said care of the Earth is an important part of the faith and the church can’t shy away from the pipeline just because it is controversial and politically divisive.”

Hhhhhmmmm, I wonder if these churches have latched on to the U.N. Agenda 21?

  13. David Southam – I’m less hopeful than you are of an Obama defeat in November. The Obama Gang are playing a careful campaign.
The way I see it, Obama is being defined as a victim of The Rich (aka the GOP/Romney). The fact that many Democrats (Pelosi, Kerry, etc etc) are very wealthy is ignored. Obama openly asks for your dollars and pennies in contributions; he’s simply not as ‘rolling in money’ as Romney The Rich.
Then, the Obama Gang is also inserting this definition of Obama as Poor, into class warfare. The scenario is that If Only the Evil Rich would pay their Fair Share, then, all would be well. The supposition is that somehow, these Evil Rich are preventing jobs from appearing – and somehow, the govt is defined as enabling jobs!
The facts of Obama’s debt load, his payouts in the stimulus to unions, his business strangling regulations, his refusal to enable internal energy development and so on – are not being discussed. Instead, we have Obama being set up as a Victim of the GOP wealth, and as a Robin Hood for the poor.
Then, the Obama Gang is targeting specific identity groups, the hispanics with his Dream act, the blacks with racism, and, more and more people on food stamps.
I don’t see Romney yet dealing with this definition of Obama as a victim and as Robin Hood. His focus on the economy is fine, but he’s got to focus also on the middle class and come out with a let’s say, five point plan for them.

  14. Stuart Varney (guest-hosting for Cavuto on Fox News) just announced that the Feds are putting out ‘loan’ of $105 MIL. to a Calif.company to convert household trash to ethanol!..smashing my head on my desk as I type.

  15. Further to prev.post..the plant to convert trash will be built in Nevada..announcement to coincide with a clean-energy mtg, hosted by…you guessed it..Harry the Liar Reid!! What a coincidence, now that Dingy Harry getting all that heat.

  16. ET, 2:34p.m.
Don’t get me wrong — I am only of the view at this stage that an Obama defeat is a possibility, not a probability. I’m having a hard time understanding the American people, who’ve gone sideways in a most unsettling way over the past twenty or so years. In general, I agree with your analysis and prescription.
I am not persuaded as yet, however, that the negative attack on Romney, by itself, is going to work. I think the best thing that can be said about Obama’s position is that Americans as a whole are ambivalent toward him and are unpersuaded by his record. I think he’s going to need a lot more than “Romney’s rich and for the rich; I’m the poor victim; vote for me”.
My read on these things is that it’s easier to be negative against a particular policy proposal than it is to establish a general negative proposition, unsupported by specifics, about your opponent. Take for example, the Liberal track record on negative campaigning in this country: they were successful against the Tories on price and wage controls, oil prices, and the GST; on the other hand, once people understood that the emperor had no clothes, Paul Martin’s “hidden agenda” campaign against Stephen Harper became something of a joke on Mr. Martin. I feel that Mr. Obama is in about the same spot.

  17. You don’t need a five-point plan for the middle class.
What you have to do is to stop people wanting something for nothing, because if they keep it up, it’s suicide for themselves personally and for the country as a whole.
The economy is about production, trade and consumption, by individuals using their own judgment. What you have to do is remove the obstacles to people profiting from that judgment. And to explain things as fully as possible.
