  1. So this guy is a Yank? The idea came from the U.S.A., but everything else was done in China? Interesting idea, but the story is just not that inspiring. Depressing, actually. No engineers in the U.S.A.? No factories with plastic molds? Does anyone produce salt in the U.S.A. these days? And how long do you think the PRC is going to respect his patent? Or create knock-off’s that avoid the patent?

  2. I want one too, before the REDfraud or Cuckoo-for-Cuckier finds out and starts to ban all granulated salt. And PETA’s new wing Freedom Fighters for Fruitflies gets going.
Meanwhile, some backwoods hippies(no,not Liebowitz)were whinging about 60 gals of oil spilt on their land, until someone pointed out to them that their claptrap vehicles in the back forty had a least twice that sitting under the oil pan,on the ground.Hypocritical twits.

  3. I want one of those too. Likely not being made in the US because of over regulation. The Chicom origin is one thing that would put me off from buying one.
OTOH, some Chicom products are appropriately priced. Some years back I looked into carrying my own pulse oximeter with me during my hospital rounds but the cheapest unit that would fit on a finger was $600. Then, when I was down in Florida last month, saw finger pulse oximeters priced at $35 at Walmart. I can’t build one that cheaply and I bought a bunch of them.

  4. Re: Salt Gun!!
Ironically I was just reading a piece on CBC.Ca. (July 26-2012) under the heading of “Guns used in Colorado theatre shooting legal in Canada”
My comment was that it was one of the worst bits of journalism that I`d seen in years. The Colorado shooting was in the USA. So what if the guns used are also available in Canada?
Needless to say, my comment never got published.
Freedom of expression is dead at CBC!!

“Things you’ll never see at the CBC / NBC / CBS / ABC / CNN”
If Bachman was a lesbian democrat it would be the leading story on all those stations. She’s GOP and normal so it’s buried. The MSM protects their own.

  6. “Can you get a scope for this salt gun?”-Ken it’s range is 24 inches, I don’t see the product being a success, at 24 inches I can probably fire a rubber band with the same effect.

  7. @ Cascadian at July 27, 2012 2:01 AM
Yea, but when they advertise it on TV it will show the shooter about half a mile away and the fly will probably have menacing teeth. That’s where truth in advertising is at these days.

  8. Have a look at http://business.financialpost.com/2012/07/25/europe-is-sleepwalking-toward-a-disaster-of-incalculable-proportions-economists/
I thought this was interesting for two reasons:
    1. George Soros has weighed in again on the issue of the Euro, and what a disaster it would be to lose it. He seems pretty nervous. I continue to wonder if he has an exposed long position in the Euro that he can’t unwind. If he did, that would be sweet justice indeed, after his behaviour in respect of the British pound and his attitude toward George W. Bush.
    2. The article contains a least-cost analysis from Germany’s perspective of continuing to support Greece within the Eurozone vs Greece exiting. There’s nothing in the article about what’s contained in the calculation, but this sort of analysis is at the crux of the future of the Euro and it’s all about Germany: is she better off paying and holding the Euro together, or is she better off not paying? I was surprised that the difference in the calculation was only E7 billion: it seems to me that if these figures cited are loan numbers only, and don’t include German GDP impacts from an exchange rate appreciation (as in going back to the DM), why would Germany not pay the diff?

  9. I like the salt gun. I don’t like that this guy had to go to China to get it made. But having myself attempted to have a product made once upon a time, I know why he did.
As a civilized and prosperous nation, Canada should be a place where you would want to go build something like that. Reality, I very much doubt that you could have that simple toy made here if your life depended on it. And if you did, it would retail for over a hundred bucks.
The reasons are manifold of course, but the biggest ones are regulation and taxation, with a side order of real estate costs and urban planning for spice.
One more thing of course, that guy would never get financial backing in Canada. Not a chance in Hell.

  10. I see he didn’t thank the government for doing it all for him.
And I have no problem with him going to china to get it made. I buy lots of excellent quality goods made in china, (and i think phantom and TC have as well) and I think it’s fair to say they are the worlds experts in manufacturing toys.
If Americans or canadians want this guys or any other toy entrepreneurs ideas to be commercialized in their country then thu have to get more competitive.
