oh you’re not fooling anyone, this isn’t natural weather, this is global warming brought about by voting in responsive democratic governments and buying the wrong stuff and being one of the too many people – hell, everyone knows that! You conservatives are so slow.
Not to deter the damage, but that wasn’t raw power picking the trailers. Most of those looked empty and are not the heaviest thing. Now if the cabs got sucked up, THEN i’d say raw power.
It proof
US need grow more jungle to prevent or stop the big twister of dust look like this one
when that big twiser hit to jungle area they stop them like big stone in front of them
“Not to deter the damage, but that wasn’t raw power picking the trailers. Most of those looked empty and are not the heaviest thing. Now if the cabs got sucked up, THEN i’d say raw power.”
Still though, even an empty trailer weighs several tons. And did you see how high they were being flung?
I believe this tornado was rated F2, relatively weak as tornadoes go. Still qualifies as raw power in my book!
Johnbrooks,
You’re absolutely right. I’m in Dallas, and watched the video live yesterday as the TV announcer raved about “lifting 18-wheelers hundred of feet into the air.” Well, the trailers were empty, there were no cabs/tractors attached, and it sure looks to me like nothing went more than perhaps 100 feet high.
They also talked about “houses blown away” when the roof had been blown off, but the balance of the house was intact. I’ve seen the results of an F5, where literally all that was left of a house was the concrete slab – there wasn’t even any debris there to see. Granted, the destruction yesterday wasn’t anything to ignore, but the way the media covered it you would have thought that there wasn’t a building left standing within 10 miles of Dallas.
… and we live in one of the quieter parts of the Solar System!
The Weather Channel has a video of a tornado outbreak in 1974. I was surprised, because they tend to believe in AGW, and that ilk likes to pretend extreme weather is a new phenomenon.
Yes, as mentioned previously – an empty van has very low density. Weight per surface area is what determines an objects vulnerability to being picked up by a tornado, or any wind.
Terminal velocity of an object falling through air is the velocity at which the pull of gravity is balanced by the friction of air resistance at that speed. (A derivative equation)
In the case of a tornado, the air is traveling almost vertically upwards in the center – suction, hence the powerful lifting force. If the air is moving upwards at a velocity greater than the objects TV, the object will rise.
A leaf has a very slow terminal velocity, hence is picked up even by light winds. A large stone has very high TV, almost impossible for a tornado to pick it up. A sky diver, about 120 mph TV. An empty semi trailer van has a fairly low TV, hence vulnerable. But it makes dramatic news footage. And is! scary no matter what.
I wouldn’t want one landing on my house anyway.
Especially down there, because allot of those containers could be full of illegal aliens from Mexico and they’d squat in your house afterwards with the full power of Obamba behind them.
An F-5 removes the parking lot pavement, only safe place is underground.
The disaster like this and or similar japan was only solution is
to have helicopter or any quick airliner to leave the area
or you get doomed for sure
I bet money the trailer that was flung in the air had its back doors open.
I live about 20 miles from where that happened.
It is springtime in Texas. This is normal, NOT climate change. This happens almost every year.
The key here is no one died. Our warning systems for severe weather are state of the art. you know why?
Because it happens EVERY YEAR.
I hate greenie alarmists with no clue.
I’m amazed there is still heavy traffic on the interstate rolling along while the tornado is going by
grobal warmening is cool. seriously though, how long before the alarmanists start endlessly using this clip for their fear mongering?
waiting for the uncensored sorta less grainy version
Send in FEMA and disarm the city.
I was actually stuck at the Dallas Airport on March 28, 2000, the last time they got a big twister.

Has this calamity erupted into cannibalism yet?
