  1. That video was shocking! The pole dancer kept her clothes on the entire time!
When I used to go to the Cecil on Granville, early 80’s, the very attractive young ladies who pole danced there, did NOT!
    Not a complaint was heard.

  2. Typical lazy politicians. Can’t be bothered to do their own research.
Was somewhat surprised at lil’ Layton’s response. Perhaps the apple does sometimes fall far from the tree.

  3. Typical politics, looking at the wrong issue. The issue isn’t what happens on the stage at a strip club, it’s what happens elsewhere.
    Or so I’ve heard.

  4. When your bureaucrats have enough time to regulate what moves a stripper can and cannot do, I’m willing to bet all the other ills of your city have been solved.

  5. So the Licensing and Standards committee members are so extremely sheltered that they’re unaware of pole dancing? Sounds more like they wanted an excuse for a field day without leaving the office.

“Do they have licenses for license now?”
You’ve nailed it. Toronto doesn’t mind licensing strip clubs, but god forbid they should have to see what they’ve licensed. The complaining councillors are hypocrites!

Very astute comment Jan. I was a student at Ryerson when Jack held court as the City Politics prof. I saw him in action…he wouldn’t have been offended!

Barbara Hall wouldn’t allow Bare Naked Ladies at City Hall either.

  9. I’m guessing that Jack would have been offended only in that he preferred oriental massages, with a happy ending, but I could be wrong.

  10. The guy’s in the hoodies and dark glasses are not in disguise, they wear the same get-up at the strip club around the corner, their simply regulars.

  11. Can we tell ‘polish jokes’ (note the lower case p) now? Reminds me of the fireman who wanted his kids to follow in his footsteps so he installed a pole in lieu of stairs in his house. His son became a fireman all right and his daughter became a stripper…

  12. LOL I had the same thought about the strippers, fun to watch, but trust me, you never want to date a lady that performs for the highest bidder, major “Diva” factor.
High maintenance to put it mildly.
I need to wonder how many of the old men on that “council” need the “little blue pill”
    Just saying.
    dwright

  13. Call me crazy – but I liked it – however, I don’t think that in real life situations, that opera music would be used. I think it is much more artistic with the clothes on (but I am a woman). I have seen racier things at Cirque d’Soleil performances Jethro has it “bang to rights’ – the action happens elsewhere!

  14. at least it wasn’t a lap dance that turned into a “pole” dance, as that would have been a little HARDER to justify

You’re not crazy, and I dated an Opera singer back in the day.
She was just as much of a Diva as a pole dancer, but ten times more annoying and pretentious.
My Mom tried to get us to try again a few years ago, I said I would rather eat a bullet, she said “dwright is a jerk for not financing my art”
    No thanks.

  17. Well, Toronto is famously multicultural, so I say hooray for the Pole dancers!
Now, I can’t wait for the Lapp dancers!

  18. Looking for new rules in the strip clubs eh? Based on my observation it would appear that the job is very dangerous thus I would find it necessary to make all pole dancers wear an approved helmut (in case they slip off the pole…can’t allow them to have a concussion), knee pads (’nuff said), and mouth guard (nothing uglier than a pole dancer with no teeth).

  19. City council ? What a joke! They are not adults in that room!! Wasting tax payers money ‘playing’ with tax payer money – did they have beer in there and did taxpayers buy the beer and foot the cab fare home? Where is the outrage?
