Tonight we take a trip back in time as we look at one of the products of a fascinating international initiative, developed under project director Bernard Fischer of the University of Virginia, called Rome Reborn:
Since 1997, the Virtual World Heritage Laboratory of the University of Virginia, the UCLA Experiential Technology Center, the Reverse Engineering (INDACO) Lab at the Politecnico di Milano, the Ausonius Institute of the CNRS and the University of Bordeaux-3, and the University of Caen have collaborated on a project to create a digital model of ancient Rome as it appeared in late antiquity.
Even seasoned travellers who’ve been pinched on the Via Veneto have never seen The Eternal City quite like this: here’s Rome Reborn: A Tour of Ancient Rome in 320 CE.
The comments are open, as always, for your Reader Tips.

“A Democratic state lawmaker from Chicago charged last week with accepting a bribe overwhelmingly won his party’s primary on Tuesday…”
With 76 percent of the vote.
Occupy Protester being … well, an Occupy Protester.
While watching this LOSER, just remember that our intellectual & moral superiors of the Media Party have told us over & over that this guy is a hero, a modern day Robin Hood, if you will. 🙁
Word.
I am not %100 certain the site I am looking for was posted in the reader tips at one point in time, but figured it’s worth a query anyhow. It was a post about the process of making cheese. This post was specifically aimed at educating those who deal with cheese snobs on a fairly regular basis.
Saskhab, this might be the post you’re referring to.
A million thanks, EBD. That’s the post.

Fall of the American Republic:
Since when can Municipalities have more authority than the American Constitution? Who gave them the right to decide what people listen to? The answer of course is the Marxist bullies who consider us all children. After all our morally rancid betters just consider us all Popcorn & beer folks. Who can’t be trusted to have ideas of their own , but must be guided by these Social snakes. Who believe they emit perfume from farts.
City Council Warns ‘Crack Ho’ Comments ‘Intolerable’, Calls For Diversity In Talk Radio
Councilmember Jan Perry introduced legislation that would call upon media companies to ensure “on-air hosts do not use and promote racist and sexist slurs” on radio and other broadcasts.
Members of Black Media Alliance, National Hispanic Media Coalition, Korean-American Bar Association, American Indians in Film and Television were on hand to voice their support for the proposal.

Vancouver intends to build a 30 story skyscraper…from wood…that’s right…they’ll chop down trees…oh, the humanity….and the lunacy…wonder if that’s up to earthquake code for Vancouver ?…and they’re going to use ‘laminated timber, thin sheets glued at right angles to each other…I always thought that was called ‘plywood’ ?
http://dvice.com/archives/2012/03/crazy-new-idea.php
Nobody makes buildings out of wood anymore. Why? Because wood isn’t especially strong (relative to steel), it involves cutting down trees, it burns readily, and creepy crawly things live and/or feast on it. Despite these horrible shortcomings, brave architects are now planning to build a 30-story wooden skyscraper in Vancouver.
There are a bunch of reasons why we don’t have wooden skyscrapers already, but two of the biggest ones seem to be strength and the fact that wood tends to be a little bit, you know, burney. As far as strength goes, skyscraper (or any building) has to be strong enough to support its own weight, and once you get above a couple floors, wood (by itself) has a hard time with that. And seeing as wood is what most people use for making fires, you’d think that making big buildings out of it would be a terrible idea.

Hey, this is the land where a teachers union, despite potential fines totalling over $20 million per day, thinks it can extort the provincial government into waving fines, before returning to “work”.
Grab your beer and popcorn, this is going to be real fun watching the BCTF self-immolate. Not a fan of the Chrusty! gubmint at all, but, I despise the lunatics of the BCTF more.
They’ve been itching for an all-out war, bring it on. Its about time that this cane to a head. Politicians have been punting this ball far too long, the BCTF, dumb as trees, think their steamers don’t stink, but couldn’t negotiate sunshine on a clear day…..
Is Obama about to cave on the Keystone Pipeline?
A new poll or focus group must have told them that there are more people concerned with rising gas prices than there are Radical Environmentalists.
Here is one of the most pathetic performances I have ever seen by a political person:
http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2012/03/why-wont-the-democrats-adopt-a-budget.php
David Axelrod, Obama’s main henchman, tries to blame his party’s failure to provide a budget in the Senate on the Republicans. Have a barf bag handy.
Anyone else notice this curious development?

Interesting video. What destroyed it all?? People stopped paying their taxes. (Seriously) They couldn’t keep it all together.
(My opinion!)
Strange happenings in Chicago. Does anyone know under what circumstances the police can arrest journalists just doing their job?
I keep warning my American friends not to take their Free Speech rights for granted. They often laugh at the lack of true free speech in my country of Canada.
Now who’s laughing?
What’s a 320 CE?
While walking by a newspaper box today noticed that the BC statists have decided to ban use of tanning beds for anyone under 18. This in a province where the largest city is without sunshine for weeks at a time and, because of the northern latitude, there’s no Vitamin D production in the skin between October and April. Of course, with a doctors prescription, those under 18 can use tanning beds . . .
Seems that infants (ie anyone under the age of 18) in BC can get oral contraceptives at puberty with no problem and they’re allowed to drive at 16. If the BC government had a shred of intelligence, it would raise the driving age to at least 30 if it wanted to reduce deaths in this age group (and far higher for certain ethnic groups). Also, I’m curious if Insite requires its “clients” to be over the age of 18 before they come inside and shoot up?
But those are the priorities of brain dead politicians in the moonbat capital of this country.
“Beyond Blue 8: Even The Dems Can’t Hack It Anymore”
“Walter Russell Mead”
“The conventional wisdom today holds that deep splits between conservatives and liberals have paralyzed the United States government. The country needs major changes, fast, writers like Tom Friedman and Michael Mandelbaum say in their recent book That Used to Be Us, but polarized politics have stopped change dead in its tracks.
Actually, the situation is a little bit more complex — and the news is substantially better than Friedman and Mandelbaum fear. Yes, there is partisan gridlock and bad feeling in American politics. But we are not as stuck or as deadlocked as it may appear. The forces driving change are stronger than many understand while the forces resisting it are weaker and more divided than things sometimes look. The blue social model is breaking up; the outlines of a new social order are beginning to appear.”

“Retired marine who owns transport business insists he had nothing to do with alleged Saadi Gaddafi plot, gets lie-detector test”
“MEXICO CITY — When he retired to San Diego after 28 years in the U.S. Marines, Gregory Gillispie thought his working days were behind him, but he soon got bored.
To keep busy, he launched an airplane brokerage, which was hired last July to transport Canadian Cynthia Vanier and her entourage to wartime Libya for a fact-finding mission.
Eight months later, two of Mr. Gillispie’s business associates are in a Mexico jail, accused of conspiring with Ms. Vanier to smuggle members of Libya’s Gaddafi family to an oceanfront hideaway near Puerto Vallarta.”

“*My moment with Moammar”
“As we sprinted across Moammar Gadhafi’s front lawn, we had to swerve to avoid the camels.
It was a bizarre obstacle course: dozens of the ungainly creatures, sitting, standing, and yes, fornicating.
It was December, 2004. Our media bus holding a dozen journalists, cameramen and photographers had been delayed after taking a wrong turn on the way in from the Tripoli Airport. Then-prime minister Paul Martin was already in the Bedouin tent inside the compound that the Libyan leader still calls home. If we didn’t hustle, we’d miss the one photo-op: a brief handshake.
As we jumped off the bus, Alphee Moreau, the PMO’s advance man at the time, shouted: “Run! Run! Be careful, the camels are dangerous!””

Those two reasons brought President Barack Obama to Solyndra’s new Fremont, Calif. manufacturing plant on Wednesday. The BC teachers union expects the gov’t to waive their fines because they know it WILL…leftwing unions get handed carte blanche…rightwing unions have to wait years to have their contracts renewed and be preemptively legislated back to work before there’s even a hint of any strike action.

This is simply the very best piece I’ve ever read on Fascism, aka authoritarian capitalism.
In light of the frequent, confused conversations here about LEFT-RIGHT and fascism-communism this is well worth the 10-page read.
The most important thing is how government interventionism is really fascism lite and that it very often leads to full-blown fascism as the power elites aren’t ever likely to agree to hold the line on, or reduce, their intervention in the market economy.

“All-Time Snowfall Records Fall Across Western Oregon & SW Washington”
“Vancouver, Washington (March 22nd 2012) – “Many cities across Western Oregon and Southwest Washington are setting all-time cold and snowfall records for this late in the season. Since Tuesday night, the Willamette Valley has been blanketed with anywhere from 2″ to 9″ of snow from Vancouver, WA. south to Eugene, Oregon.”

The Fruit Fly Guy poll still needs some attention from people.
Imagine: $100 billion per yeaar with no oversight and subject to no laws, anywhere!
The Green Climate Fund, which is supposed to help mobilize as much as $100 billion a year to lower global greenhouse gases, is seeking a broad blanket of U.N.-style immunity that would shield its operations from any kind of legal process, including civil and criminal prosecution, in the countries where it operates. There’s just one problem: it is not part of the United Nations.
Whether the fund, which was formally created at a U.N. climate conference in Durban, South Africa last December, will get all the money it wants to spend is open to question in an era of economic slowdown and fiscal austerity. Its spending goal comes atop some $30 billion in “fast start-up” money that has been pledged by U.N. member states to such climate change activities.
