In a letter to the editor, Mark promised me that, “The government’s decision to close down SCN is going to cost the people of Saskatchewan far more in lost investment from outside the province than was being spent to run SCN, money that was used to employ Saskatchewan labour and pay for services from Saskatchewan companies.”
So much for that. They’re even keeping the education on.
I really wanted to pay for it out of tax dollars.

The difficult part will be what bits of the current programming to keep, of course. After Rex’s Cross-Country Checkup, and the Vinyl Cafe, I admit to being stumped.

The statement that SCN “brings Saskatchewan stories to … the world” is fanciful at best.
I have never heard of it before, let alone seen or heard any material which originated with it.
Entertainment out of Hollywood and news out of Toronto, gag twice. What is wrong with something local that is cheap?
Corner Gas, Little Mosque and now SCN. How will we ever know what the culture of Saskatchewan looks like. I can imagine the “artistic” community is devastated at the loss of another government teat.

I wonder how much grant money this guy slurps up? Good on the Sask gov’t divesting itself of garbage that a government should not be spending money on. Yep, some people will be out of work, and I feel bad for those people, but how bad did people feel when we cut the military from 75,000 to 60,000 back in the ’90s?
I, for one, will miss SCN. But given the current political climate, I suppose it had to go. The only way it could survive would be as a US-style public TV station, but we don’t have the population for that. Those that are trying to make points by saying that private enterprise has taken over and rescued SCN are full of it. It was the stuff they are not keeping that was the good stuff.
Having said that, I’m still looking forward to more City TV. After all, I only get CBC and CTV now, anything has got to be an improvement.
