In tonight’s Tips music, recorded live during a June 1975 concert at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, the Rolling Stones – along with Ian Stewart on piano – blast their way through a rollicking performance of It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll.
They like it. Best through headphones, if you have ’em, so you can hear the deft, weaving interplay of the honking guitars — that’s Ron Wood in your left ear, Keef on the right.

What a surprise that an NDP leader wannabe call the oil sands, tar sands. Also, no surprise that she is pandering to unions, as any good NDP politician who is bought and paid for will do.
I would love to know how much they make if the company is trying to knock the salary down 50%. It would be unreasonable if they are making $15-$20 an hour, but anything over $30 would not surprise me. A company has to do what it has to do.

A site that says the salary averages $34 an hour, which would be reasonable for skilled labour. But if your choice is $17.00 an hour or no job, what would you chose? I would start looking for another job if I made $34 an hour and they wanted me to take a pay cut, but if my only skill isn’t marketable and no one else would pay me that much, I guess I would be happy to have a job.

I think one of these items is incorrect.

Well, the federal government doesn’t need to worry about debt right now, not when there’s all them deviant homersexuals to worry about. It’s about priorities.

At least I think it’s “Toronto”; with Mick’s pronunciation it could have been “Cleveland”.

EBD there is a causal relationship between lax morals and debt. If you won’t stand for the small stuff you won’t stand for the big either. If there is no restraint on having irresponsible sex there is no restraint on borrowing money without the intent of paying it back.
That’s odd, Catch22, I can hear all the words perfectly clearly. The first verse, for example, is —
Yes, it’s called personal responsibility. A concept that seems to have become obsolete in our blame-everyone-else entitlement piglet society.
Here’s another Ukrainian carol that may sound familiar (composer Leontovych)
EBD, there is no ideal candidate. Santorum has continually said he’s for small government and has focused on America returning to what it used to be, a manufacturing giant. He talks about blue collar jobs and respect for hard work. I’ve listened to most of the debates, including tonight’s in its entirety. The reason gay marriage keeps coming up is because the debate hosts try to skewer Republican candidates with it. Tonight, I thought that Romney was quite strong, especially when he turned the tables on the idiotic question posed by George Stephanopoulos regarding contraception. That was priceless! Newt Gingrich did really well, too. They’re all conservative, but they don’t agree on everything, just as SDA members don’t agree on everything.

Absolutely Priceless
“There is a causal relationship between lax morals and debt. If you won’t stand for the small stuff you won’t stand for the big (stuff) either…” — Joe (12:09)
If racking up debt, and not paying your debts, is evidence of lax morals (and I think it is) then American politicians – as opposed to, say, homer-sexuals – have the laxest morals extant.
“If there is no restraint on having irresponsible sex there is no restraint on borrowing money without the intent of paying it back.”
Not really. Both are downstream symptoms, or evidence, of a larger moral breakdown, but the debt crisis – excessive borrowing by governments and private citizens alike – isn’t caused by gays, or by people wearing bondage gear. If the U.S. (or Greece) brought in a million soldiers to crack down on people who engage in profligate sex, or make them cover up their ta-tas, it wouldn’t solve the debt problem.
Thanks–the beat is unmistakeable–sad thing is–as one gets older–some of the frequencies disappear. (With or without earphones.)

No one can write an Eulogy like Mr Steyn. He can make human even the worst jerks.
This though was a masterpiece of real compassion set in words. I hope the Santorum’s read this column. Beautifully executed with no malice , just a quiet disgust at the actions of a few evil men.
I don;t hold with Santorum’s politics, but as a man he is head & shoulders above the vicious animals that assaulted his families trial of grief
Me Steyn caught that with more in one of his best works I figure to date.Only he could have written this Masterly to inject real humanity for the aggrieved while describing an ugly event .
Thank you Mr Steyn fore an artful piece of prose. A very flower of kindness.

I thought that 18 feet of snow over a few weeks with more on the way and the national guard being called in to deliver avalanche kits might be of interest to somebody.
It is interesting. The reference to global warming was spurious and unnecessary. Weather like that is considered normal every few years by those of us who live up here. It isn’t caused by the gradual warming that’s been happening since the last ice age, nor is it caused by human activity as the AGW religion would like us to believe.

“Canada Condemns Recent Attacks in Nigeria
January 6, 2012 – 8 p.m. ET – Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement on the latest violent attacks in Nigeria:
“Canada unequivocally condemns the cowardly attacks in Mubi today and the separate attack in Gombe on Thursday.
“On behalf of all Canadians, I offer my deepest sympathies to the families and friends of those killed and wish a speedy recovery to those injured by this senseless violence.

“Nigeria descends into holy war”
“Christian villagers in the north of the country live in fear of the Boko Haram, an Islamist sect blamed in a string of deadly attacks,”
“MAIDUGURI, Nigeria — Like many other Christian outposts in the spiritual homeland of Nigeria’s “Taliban,” the Victory Baptist Church in the northern desert city of Maiduguri no longer relies solely on God for protection.
A modest whitewashed spire in a skyline dominated by mosques, for the last month it has had a military guard to defend it from Boko Haram, the militant local Islamist sect blamed for a string of attacks nationwide in recent weeks.
The soldiers in the sandbagged machine-gun nest outside the church, though, were unable save three members of the flock last week.
On Wednesday evening, three days after Boko Haram ordered all Christians to leave Muslim-dominated northern Nigeria, Ousman Adurkwa, a 65-year-old local trader, answered the door of his home near the church to what he thought was an after-hours customer. Instead it was two masked gunmen.
“They shot my father dead, and then came for the rest of the family,” Adurkwa’s son Hyeladi, 25, told The Sunday Telegraph the following day. “One chased my brother Moussa and killed him, and the other shot at me, but my mother took the bullet in the stomach instead.”
Hyeladi spoke as weeping parishioners gathered for an impromptu memorial service in the Adurkwa family compound, where the parlour carpet was still stained with blood from the gunshot wound suffered by Mrs. Aduwurka, 50, who now lies in hospital.”

“Butts are legal tender in the economic system that prevails in Berlin. The other afternoon I was at the home of a woman who was having some glass put in the blown-out windows of her apartment. The glazier had been on the job all day, using old bent nails instead of putty. The woman’s fifteen-year-old daughter came into the living room to say that the glazier had finished and was waiting to be paid. ‘Come now, where have you put the butts?’ the mother asked the child, who went out and shortly returned with a silver bowl containing twenty butts. Her mother took the bowl into the next room, where the glazier had been working, and through the open door I could hear him expressing his ecstatic thanks. Plainly he was more than satisfied with his day’s pay.”

I appreciated John Baird’s condemnation of the violence in Nigeria. But the statement was somewhat more tepid than I’d prefer, and one can’t have it both ways, as he seems to suggest. E.g., Baird states:
“On behalf of all Canadians, I offer my deepest sympathies to the families and friends of those killed and wish a speedy recovery to those injured by this senseless violence.
“These people were targeted because of their religious beliefs.”
“ . . . injured by senseless violence” and “. . . targeted because of their religious beliefs” is an oxymoron.
What “violence”? MUSLIM—not mentioned. What “religious beliefs”? CHRISTIAN—not mentioned. Why can’t people just call a spade a spade? Trying to sugar coat unpalatable truths is a/n inter/national pastime and a disgrace: it avoids naming the problem, which makes the solution all the more elusive. Political correctness has GOT.TO.GO.

Obama Goes Mad Hatter! Throws A Secret “Alice In Wonderland” Bash at the White House in 2009
(NEW YORK POST) — It was the tea party the Obamas just couldn’t resist.
A White House “Alice in Wonderland” costume ball — put on by Johnny Depp and Hollywood director Tim Burton — proved to be a Mad-as-a-Hatter idea that was never made public for fear of a political backlash during hard economic times, according to a new tell-all.
“The Obamas,” by New York Times correspondent Jodi Kantor, tells of the first Halloween party the first couple feted at the White House in 2009. It was so over the top that “Star Wars” creator George Lucas sent the original Chewbacca to mingle with invited guests.
The book reveals how any official announcement of the glittering affair — coming at a time when Tea Party activists and voters furious over the lagging economy, 10-percent unemployment rate, bank bailouts and Obama’s health-care plan were staging protests — quickly vanished down the rabbit hole.
“White House officials were so nervous about how a splashy, Hollywood-esque party would look to jobless Americans — or their representatives in Congress, who would soon vote on health care — that the event was not discussed publicly and Burton’s and Depp’s contributions went unacknowledged,” the book says.
However, the White House made certain that more humble Halloween festivities earlier that day — for thousands of Washington-area schoolkids — were well reported by the press corps.
