  1. Words of wisdom from Mad Mallick’s New Year’s “column”: “• Don’t assume the fringe is mainstream. I’m referring to news stories about people being arrested for baking their infants. Oh my god, this happened in Etobicoke? We must bring back orphanages! And the death penalty! Then you read more closely and it occurred in Arkansas or Mississippi where such acts are not unusual. If state residents are not baking their children, they’re boiling them. Furthermore, the parent is invariably sentenced, not to jail, but to parenting class. Keep your outrage local, please.”
Anyone feel like having a crack at that?

  2. The filter ate my comment (twice). I can’t figure out why. I wasn’t trying to sell p*ker ins*rance.

  3. ” I wasn’t trying to sell p*ker ins*rance.”
    A less observed fact,p*ker ins*rance needs only another ‘*’ to become vi*gra.

  4. EBD,coincidentally,I watched a show this morning about a couple of guys(bowhunters) stalking a muskox. The fella got a shot off that hit his target. The alpha muskox, within seconds, headbutted the wounded one, which finished him off.
Common sense and survival, they’re close cousins, except in civilization…

Damn Dave. I thought it said Acorn! Or DNC.

  6. Black Mamba, Mallick is beyond any vestige of sanity, and to make her screed worse, it’s not the least bit funny.
    She’s just icky. Mallicky.

  7. People need to stop linking to Mallick please. It only gets her page views. Just copy and paste the relevant parts of her crap so we get a good look at the pinnacle of leftist thought and leave it at that.

  8. I did, James. But truely, I consider her a thing of wonder and I don’t want her to be fired. It’s not like she’s making deranged ultra-left planet Torontonians look good, is it?

  9. Mallick has the cleanest sphincter on the planet.
Even the lowly stink pickle has some pride, and won’t touch that!

  10. Over at ‘WHATTS UP WITH THAT’, they are having quite the discussion about ‘google search’ rankings.
For a site that is approaching a hundred million hits, one would think it should constantly appear in the first page when googling anything ‘global warming. Not the case at all.
    I found these comments interesting:
[It was my understanding that the page title has the major impact on searches. The WUWT title “Watts Up With That? | The world’s most viewed site on global warming and climate change” is diluted with too many worthless words. It might be worth changing it to : “Global warming and climate change” and put “Watts Up With That?” in the description tag.]
[ If WUWT follows some advice and does a combination of on-page optimisation (removing unnecessary outgoing links), editorial awareness (better choices of title) and a linking strategy (getting others to link with relevant link text) then this blog would race up the rankings. ]

  11. I read one article by Mallick, and after that I ignore everything with her byline. The obsessive fascination some forum members have for her is just creepy. It’s like someone continuing to step in dogshit just so they can complain about it again.

  12. Well I am quite creepy, North. I’m also a minor Jack the Ripper buff, and I have more than one cat. You’d best steer clear of me.
Reader Tip: The reason I’m still up is that I had a migraine coming on earlier. I did what a doctor once suggested and downed a great deal of water. It worked. I can’t believe it worked. (Normally I wake up with them so it’s taken me a while to try out this preventetive method.) Anyone who suffers from migraines really should try this.

  13. Yeah, I can relate to that, I think migraines are more in your digestive system than in your head.

  14. I had a migraine coming on earlier. I did what a doctor once suggested and downed a great deal of water. It worked.
Yup, migraines are often caused by dehydration. Adding a bit of honey to it helps make recovery quicker. In your opinion is ‘a great deal’ a liter or is it more than that?

  15. nv53 – I agree, but every university student enrolled in the humanities/social sciences are being indoctrinated with this.
It’s called cultural competency -it ‘s rather an Orwellian concept. You see, if you simply treat people as people w/o acknowledging the persons culture, race or ethnicity then you’re considered culturally incompetent. To be culturally competent you must educate yourself on every nuance of every culture and ensure that you change your behavior to accommodate the culture, race, or ethnicity you’re communicating with.
Black Mamba – just got over a migraine myself – they began before I even started school as a child. Use to open the window, and immerse my head in cold water several times over the course of a couple of hours, and lay in a dark quiet, scentless room to relieve them – this is not an option most of the time for obvious reasons. Analgesics only work some of the time. I will try the water trick at the onset of the next one-never heard of that cure before and believe me I’ve heard many.

“Canadian Senate Testimony – Skeptic side now being heard in Canadian politics”
    Mark Thompson submits this story:
Now that we have a majority Conserviative government in Canada and the past history of Liberal obfuscation is being erased, the Canadian and the broader world public is now getting a chance to hear the truth on climate issues.
The video link provided is two hours of testimony before a Canadian Senate Committee from December 15, 2011. Most who have a skeptical viewpoint will have already heard of some or all of the four presenters.
The presentations and follow-up questions are both excellent! Interesting to note the avoidance of some of the alarmist bullying seen in some of the U.S. Senate hearings from the likes of Clinton and Boxer. Of course, you’ll see the odd Liberal senator make the typical noxious commentary around thousands of scientists and ‘consensus’ but it doesn’t matter, they are only looking increasingly foolish.”

  18. I thought the Big Bison was coming to the rescue. What the …? ‘To get the pack of wolves away from the rest of the herd? Survival of the fittest? It kind of reminds me of the type of society we’re “nurturing” in our kids today. “I’m number one, you’re not, and you’re expendable.”
Re migraines, I don’t get them but members of my family do: Part of the problem — or maybe the whole problem — is the severe constriction of blood vessels. So drinking water — and what sometimes worked for my daughter, soaking in a very hot bath up to her neck — helps to expand the blood vessels.
I find that any kind of headache coming on is helped by drinking water. The dehydration that North of 60 mentions, is real. More water = fewer headaches.
Moral of the story: Prevent headaches by drinking water throughout the day even if you don’t feel thirsty.

  19. Hmm, I no longer make comments about getting caught in the filter or even having comments deleted. What’s the point? It’s Kate’s site and she’s the boss.
‘Funny, however, that some commenters are given a tongue-lashing for complaining, while others aren’t.
I guess every “mom” has favourites. 😉

  23. The following email was sent to Prime Minister Harper a few minutes ago Jan 2.
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The Right Honourable Stephen Joseph Harper
    Prime Minister Of Canada
    Dear Prime Minister
Your efforts to embed conservatism back into the life-blood of Canada is laudatory.
However a few links are still missing to close the deal.
Conrad Black, Mark Steyn, Patrick Muttart all stalwart conservatives, have abandoned Canada.
The way I see matters is this ….. all three should be encouraged to involve themselves in assisting you into the process of shaping the ‘conservative way’ as a Canadian value.
THe QMI owned SUN TV is a newcomer and now represents a credible plus in that regard.
However, most of all, Catherine “Kate” McMillan the conservative “Small Dead Animals” (Delisle Saskatchewan) blogger has been a beacon of “hope” for those of us who, at some point despaired the lack of a conservative Canadian voice in MSM and of the direction which Canda ( Trudeaupia ) was taking politically.
Conrad Black despite his travails needs to abandon his “ego” and return to Canada as citizen. Period.
Whether you love him or hate him, his exceptionally keen mind and conservative viewpoint needs expression in this country and on TV in particular and not in his former National Post, only.
AS should Kate McMillan , ( reluctantly, as I understand. )
    I AM,

  24. One last time for those who apparently require repeated explanations:

The filter here is automatic. It not only catches specific words, it also identifies suspicious ip addresses, and will stop comments with too many links. The list of words that trip the filter is long, and that is for a reason.
THAT REASON IS TO PERMIT YOUR COMMENTS TO BE POSTED HERE. NO FILTER = NO COMMENTS SECTION.

I do not appreciate being insulted because certain individuals believe their precious comments are receiving more or less attention than they deserve.
I can assure you that there are no favourites played here – but I can also assure you that many hours may pass before someone checks the junk bin to release them. If the whining continues, you may discover yourself banned from accessing the site at all – as is the normal protocol for trolls.
I repeat to all who feel the comments policy here is unsatisfactory: find another blog.
I am not a public utility.

  27. Excellent letter Joe Molnar. Maybe you could post it and people who wish to (like me) could co-sign it. We could send it to an M.P. in the form of a Petition and have it read out in Parliament.

  28. North of 60 at January 2, 2012 3:21 AM – probably a bit more than a litre, but quick, not sipping. (I’d rather be up peeing every 10 minutes than up battling a migraine.) I don’t think I’m dehydrated much. The doctor I spoke to told me it had something to do with expanding the blood vessels, as batb says.
re. batb @10:11 – the thing is that often EBD or Kate or someone will be nice enough to go fish out the trapped comment; so if I post a comment saying a previous one was caught it’s only by way of notice. It’s certainly not a complaint. Usually I just let it slide. Sites with a weak filter seem to get innundated with sp@m, so I definitely understand why it’s necessary.

  29. Great letter, Joe Molnar. I suspect that someone in the PMO’s office might see it, as I suspect that someone in the PMO’s office might peruse conservative blogs to see what’s happening in the conservative, aka common-sense, neighbourhood.
It’s a beautiful day in the neighbourhood …

  30. Just a brief note to Jema 54 and batb, and thanks for the endorsement.

However, I had CC.d the Harper email letter to Conrad Black, Mark Steyn, Lorne Gunter, Patrick Muttart, and Ezra Levant.
Therefore the notion is in their realm as well.
