In tonight’s instalment of our 2011 Christmas Music Series, Leipzig’s Thomanerchor (which next year celebrates it’s 800th anniversary) performs a lovely, tranquil, refreshingly unadorned version of the beautiful 19th century Austrian carol Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht (“Silent Night“).

I’m not sure if Rethink Campaigns has been featured here before, but it’s a great resource in trying to understand how the Canadian environmental movement is being funded by American foundations.
“According to my preliminary calculations, since 2000 USA foundations have poured at least $300 million into the environmental movement in Canada. Its time to ask why. The David Suzuki Foundation alone has been paid at least $10 million by American foundations over the past decade. Why are American foundations spending so much money in Canada instead of in their own country or in other countries around the world that are far more needy than Canada?

Obviously he feels free abusing the police because there were no serious consequences in the first 49 arrests.
On CKNW two days ago, a caller – a former drug addict admitted to being arrested 58 times for B&E’s. The most time he spent in jail?
Four days. Four freaking days.
He said that had their been more serious consequences: increasing jail time after each conviction, time spent consecutively for each charge, rather than concurrently, he would probably have changed his behavior and sought re-hab considerably earlier.
I’m glad he finally saw the light on his own, but at what cost to society?

“Charges dropped against hobby farmer. Night-vision binoculars used to spy on family in slaughterhouse case.”
“The Ministry of Natural Resources says it intends to withdraw four charges against an Ontario hobby farmer accused of operating an illegal slaughterhouse and distributing uninspected meat.
Mark Tijssen was charged with running an unlicensed slaughterhouse, failing to have an animal inspected before and after slaughter, and distributing meat.
The charges arose after a friend left Tijssen’s property in November 2009 carrying about 40 pounds of pork from a pig they had slaughtered on his Carlsbad Springs farm. The pork was confiscated.
The case revolves around Ontario’s Food Quality and Safety Act. Under the law, that is intended to protect consumers from ingesting dangerous food, people are allowed to butcher an animal for personal use only.
Tijssen, a major in the Canadian Forces, says he has a right to slaughter an animal for private consumption without being subject to “a warrantless after-dark armed raid” and the prospect of a $100,000 fine.
On Monday, he arrived home to find a letter from the ministry, announcing that the charges against him will be withdrawn in an Ottawa courtroom this morning.
But what could seem like a cause for celebration really isn’t, Tijssen says, because an MNR investigator “violated” his family’s privacy.”

http://tinypic.com/r/kesw9c/5

Apparently Chiquita is now claiming that the whole thing is “misinformation”, and they never had any plans to boycott Canadian oil. They want notices to that effect posted in every produce department in Canada.
Clearly, the counter-boycott has terrified Chiquita. I’ve been working in the grocery business for eight years, and as far as I can recall, I’ve never seen a company ask grocery stores to post notices basically begging people not to boycott them.

In an article published on its website, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (the Taliban’s shadow government) cites an American Red Cross report to argue that the dead bodies of the Taliban fighters do not decay, unlike the bodies of the enemy soldiers.
“The American Red Cross … Showed Its Astonishment as to Why the Dead Bodies of Taliban had Not Decayed or Gave Off a Foul Smell!”
“The committee of the American Red Cross has released a report on its webpage regarding the bodies of the dead (martyred) Taliban, compared to those of the foreign forces. The mentioned committee which had the duty of collecting and burying the dead in Mazar-e-Sharif province of Afghanistan showed its astonishment as to why the dead bodies of Taliban had not decayed or gave off a foul smell!
“The report said that investigators initially thought that the cold weather was the reason behind this phenomenon; however this theory was later shattered because the bodies of the Northern Alliance fighters which were lying in the same area had decayed and were also giving off a nauseating smell.
“The report further says that it now wants to conduct research on the type of food consumed by the Taliban fighters! The researchers also want to find out if there is a relationship between food and blood, because the blood of some Taliban members keeps its warm temperatures even after their death!
“It is the bounty of Allah that the enemies profess before friends to the miracles displayed by Taliban martyrs in the face of the Crusader onslaught. It should be stated that if all the scientists and chemists of the entire planet were to gather and research their whole lives they would never be able to find the answer for this puzzling question. For all we know, maybe they have even tried to locate the blessed body of Ibrahim [i.e. Abraham] so they can make fire-resistant clothes for their soldiers by studying his biological makeup!”

Did Bo Return From Hawaii for Obama’s Photo Op?
by Keith Koffler on December 22, 2011, 11:53 am
Bo Obama was supposed to be in Hawaii. Instead, he showed up at President Obama’s side Wednesday shopping for treats at PetSmart
According to Michelle Obama’s press office, the first dog was planning to go to Hawaii with the first lady and the Obama daughters. The Chicago Sun-Times reported that he in fact had gone there. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser quoted an eyewitness who said he had seen the Portuguese Water Dog having his walk.
So what is Bo doing back in Washington shopping at PetSmart?
Either these reports are mistaken, or Bo was told his vacation was over and that he had to return to the White House to keep a lonely president company – and participate in a silly photo op presenting Obama as an average guy who likes to head out to the PetSmart.
If Bo returned from Hawaii, who paid for his flight?
It’s possible he hitched a ride on a return flight of the Air Force plane that brought Michelle to Hawaii, which wouldn’t have really added much to Michelle’s more than $100,000 price tag for her solo trip.
Or maybe he commandeered his own Air Force jet.

“Case Study:
The Armenian Genocide,
1915-17”
“Summary
The Armenian genocide was one of the most massive “root-and-branch” exterminations ever carried out against a defenseless people. In 1915, as World War I raged, the Turkish government (ruler of the Ottoman Empire) decided upon the systematic extermination of most of the male Armenian population, and the forced deportation of the remainder, mostly women, children, and the elderly. The deportation became a death march, with extreme violence and deprivation leading to the death of most of the survivors of the initial gendercide — as was intended. By the time the exhausted and traumatized survivors reached refuge in neighbouring countries, up to three-quarters of the entire Ottoman Armenian population had been exterminated.
The background
Armenians are one of the most ancient peoples of the Near East, having lived in the southern Caucasus region for as long as 3,000 years. Christianized early in the first millennium, they formed by the 19th century the largest non-Muslim population in the Ottoman Empire.”

“Our man in North Korea

January 13, 2003
The big question of the less than one month old New Year is: Where on earth are we going with Canadian business man Maurice Strong out on the centre of the world stage? To be more specific, what precisely is Strong doing in North Korea?”
http://www.canadafreepress.com/2003/main012003.htm
*Maurice Strong, Liberal leader Bob Rae’s uncle Mo, is a good buddy of Liberal Jeancula Ad$cam.
I haven’t read the SCC national securities regulator decision yet, but I’ll bet it won’t need the notwithstanding clause dispatched upon it nearly as badly as the Insite decision did.
I disagree with the French law regarding genocide denial, as it violates freedom of speech. Probably biased too: I bet no one who denies the Holodomor (which some communists do) ever gets charged.
Agree with you nv53 that the French law is asinine and a violation of freedom of speech. Of course, freedom of speech has never been a French tradition with the French being one of the very few countries who insist on a government commission determining what words are permissible in the language and insisting that uniquely French words replace new words that come into existence as technology advances. It’s unclear if this uniquely Gallic perversion is genetic or a bug in French society.
The best approach to the Turkish reluctance to admit the truth is ridicule and publicity. Adolph himself, in referring to his final solution, said “after all, who now remembers the Armenians” (or something to that effect). The ability to live an openly contradictory life seems to be a uniquely Turkish perversion as I found out once in a heated argument with a drunken Turkish doctor over the blasphemy to islam caused by the publication of the Mohammed cartoons.
