[W]hen he was at the HLR you did get a very distinct sense that he was the kind of guy who much more interested in being the president of the Review, than he was in doing anything as president of the Review.
A lot of the time he quote/unquote “worked from home”, which was sort of a shorthand – and people would say it sort of wryly – shorthand for not really doing much. He just wasn’t around. Most of the day to day work was carried out by the managing editor of the Review, my predecessor, a great guy called Tom Pirelli whose actually going to be one of the assistant attorney generals now.
He’s the one who did most of the day to day work. Barack Obama was nowhere to be seen. Occasionally he would drop in he would talk to people, and then he’d leave again as though his very arrival had been a benediction in and of itself, but not very much got done.
So, you know, you see that and you think, gosh, maybe that’s the way the guy operates, hut then you figure ok, obviously he always had his eye on bigger and better things.

Obama is a talker, not a doer. He comes up with the ideas, and is not interested in the effects (especially since they’re bad), details nor the actual work.
How anyone defends him at this point is a mystery.

I love the juxtapositions that compare Obama to that statement about his “work” at Harvard Law Review.
Purely political move. Obama wants to be on the campaign circuit announcing to cheering crowds that the troops will be “Home for the holidays!” – so he all but undermines the negotiations (such as they are, when the president can’t be bothered to get involved) with impossible demands and a ridiculous goal.
As usual, it’s all about him. He wants those cheering crowds, he *needs* those cheering crowds. The man will probably wither away to a bitter old shell when he has no campaigns left to run after 2012; think Jimmy Carter’s bitterness amped up by about a thousand.
It’s reminiscent of the Kaiser, having dumped Bismark, simply forgetting to renew the non-aggression pact with Russia. Result: WWI.

I hate to disagree with you Jason but I doubt that Obambam has had an original idea in his life. It seems he simply spouts the lines he has been fed since he was a young pup growing up in a socialist/Isalmic nirvana.

One would think that weekly updates/meetings/ect concerning a global hotspot would be of great import. Oh well….

There never was any reason to vote for Obama as President, and many reasons to vote against him.

Joe, the kaiser never “forgot” anything. Germany had been friendly with Russia for many years, since they had a common interest in Poland, and no causes for dispute. The development of German trade and investment in Turkey, at the same time that Russia was becoming more dependent on international trade through the Turkish straits, put them in conflict. The kaiser stopped making promises once it became clear he couldn’t count on being able to keep them.

See the recent decision by the Administration to respond to Freedom of Information requests with “that document does not exist” when they don’t want it to get out. Reminds me of the quote from the Nixon era: “That statement is no longer operative”.
