Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Robert; what am I missing? The bilingual ribbon is the same as I have on my front door. Cheers;
Mike, no hidden meaning in the photo. It just made me very proud to see the emblem on a car with Alberta plates. That emblem isn’t something I see very often back home on the Left Coast.
and I have the same one on my car…
maybe it’s a ‘gov’t motors’ car that’s so odd ?
or maybe I’m missing something too ?
now it’d be REALLY odd if there were an ndp or liebral sticker too….
I’d think you’d see more Alberta vehicles WITH emblems of that sort than without..the same goes for the East Coast and just about anywhere outside of BC, Que or Toronto
Based on the way the National Anthem is sung at hockey games, I would have guessed there’s french on the ribbon.
These are very common – mostly on trucks – in the Ottawa area.
Robert, I live in Chilliwack and there are lots of these around. I know the ‘Wack is an old army town, and lots of seniors have retired here, because of climate and rural atmosphere, but our little town doesn’t fit in your description of BC. Sorry
Woody, I live just on the outer edge of Kitsilano, in Vancouver. When I get back there next month I’m going to make a conscious effort to find such emblems. Maybe I’m mistaken about my ‘hood but I suspect I’m not. 🙁
Hey Robert, the City of Calgary is now “allowing” them on city vehicles, after a huge hullabaloo with our regressive city council. Of course they are removable for fear they may offend some poor sod slaving away for the city.
Lots of ’em in this BC town. I bought one from Zellers and it was crap and pealed off – try to find a CANEX store and get a decent one. Mine has been on for at least four years.
Surprisingly there’s quite a few in the GTA. More common on cars than you might think.
I always swell with pride when I see one of those ribbons on a vehicle too Rob.
Walk into any Legion in any small town and just look at the number of names on the wall. It’s always a good reminder that the men and women from the farms and small towns have always carried their weight.
Seen ’em in Vancouver several times, but yes there are more of them near military bases.
If you want a magnetic sticker like that one(I’ve got a couple), try your local Legion. Or try any CF Reserve unit in your area; Army, Navy or Air Force. (the Chief Clerk usually has a few stashed in the office somewhere)
If all else fails, anybody can order one from the CANEX system…

I see them all over the place here in Victoria BC. We’ve got lots of military families here of course. Good to see them.
Mine was eaten by the robo-wash. ~:(
Get ’em at the legion, where all the procedes (that’s right all, not just the wildly ubiquitous “portion”) go to veteran services. While your there, buy a beer or two for the boys, where all the procedes goes to veteran services, then have a sit down and maybe you’ll here a story or two…
Some might even be mostly true.
Enjoy an afternoon at the legion, sure beats working.
I’d like to see one of those on a Toyota Prius or a Nissan Leaf.
Just because.
seriously :]
d
Legion ones are the classic blue/gold/white. There are also kewl CADPAT ones in cbt-green or desert tan. I know a convenience store in Aurora that sells ’em, and CJ is right: in Alliston every car has one.
As a retired CF officer, I always have one on the ol’ SUV.
I get ’em at CANEX.
And I routinely forget to remove them and then lose them at the car wash too! I think I’m on my third or fourth one. The latest is desert CADPAT.
Along with Reserve units and Legions, you can also try getting one at your local Recruiting office. BTW, a friend with a Prius bought one from me for his car. There’s so much plastic on the back, he couldn’t find a place to put it, and had to stick it on a side pillar!
Lots in the GTA I’m happy to say. There are a bunch of wankers here, no doubt, but there are real, proud Canadians as well.
Edmonton is full of them , including my car. They keep getting stolen though.
In Guelph, all veterans get the choice of a free municipal parking pass, or a free transit pass, good for one year. Not a lot of paperwork either. I don’t use mine that much, but it is useful, and a nice touch.
Have a “cammi” one on my work truck… Bought from military family support group at Camp Borden. On one occasion. a “brown” gentleman screamed something at me and gave me the digital salute as I was driveng towards him on the highway. Leaned right out of his window passing me the other way.Another time, I found a group of same “brown” people trying to pick it off the front of my truck. A simple HEY!!,drove them off. This was in “Taliban Territory” (Surrey B.C.).. More civilized variety I guess, once or twice removed from Caveland.
Sheesh. I clicked on this link expecting to find a Dick Cheney story.
I’ve had about a dozen on my van in greater vancouver. But because I park at lots of places associated with Lefties they keep disappearing. I buy them by the dozen and sometimes I get people that ask for one and I’m happy to oblige. I’ve been noisy about “what “A” hole would steel them at work and I’ve noticed they last longer than they used to. Some coworkers now let me know its still there when they go by my van on the way in. Someday all the hippies will be dead or retired.
Must be a BC thing. Only time I’ve lost mine is in the car-wash. Though I did have some whitey cross-worshiper vandalize my FSM symbol.
I have them on all my vehicles and have given some away to others.
Mad Mike @ 8:40 has the sources.
I have one on my jeep and lots of them in the S. Central interior of BC. Lots of times I’ll see the majority of the vehicles in the parking lot sporting these. Bought mine from a Canadian Forces booth at the local gun show. Goes well with my NRA sticker (not a lot of those around here though:-(.
They have them on the police cars in Ottawa.
ROB Paul here , i see these here in alberta all the time , sometimes i see three or four of them on one vehicle, i know my two cars have one on each !!! And when are we gonna meet?
You’ll see lots of them in the Qualicum – Comox corridor on Vancouver Island.
Have had that exact same sticker on the mini van for so long it’s cracked and peeling. I’ll just go down to Canadian Tire and pick up another one. In Nanaimo. On Vancouver Island. The most tree hugging, hippy infested place around. Never been an issue. Even hippies can support the troops too I guess.
p.s. Vancouver is a hole. I can barely stand that I have to drive anywhere near it to get to work and home twice a month. ha ha.
p.p.s. not kidding. Total hell hole.
I didn’t understand what was so special about this picture either, I see quite a lot around Ottawa usually on working people’s cars and pickup trucks but never on a Lexus or Mercedes-Benz.
I have the vinyl cling window sticker on the inside of my rear window where it can not be damaged or stolen.
I had 1 on my Jeep. Someone stole it. I replaced it. Someone stole that one also. @ 12.95 each at the Legion I did not consider it being overcharged as the Legion does good stuff for vets but that makes them a bit expensive with the size of my budget. I no longer have one on my Jeep.
dwright at 10:25 pm, We have had one on our Prius for three years (on the quarter pillar)the brown camo is our favorite but the Legion red white & blue also looks good – that is – when the Sask back road dirt isn’t covering the whole car. We never have had one stolen since nearly everyone around here has them.
happy infidel
Yeah them “brown people”…..
An acquainttance got a shock when he foolishly followed his ideology and passed the time of day with a knot of them…..
I just happened along…I barked some Pashtun phrases in their general direction and suddenly they had somewhere else they had to be….
The lefty fool remarked he didn’t know what scared him more…me or them…..and decided me…..
Good call….
I have noticed those ethnic folk since….they cross the street to avoid passing me on the sidewalk….
I call it counter-terrorism….
I used to have one on my car and it disappeared, either stolen or removed by some peace-nick a-hole. So I bought another from the army family support group at Petawawa. After a time, it too disappeared.
Maybe this is it!
