We’re at the halfway point on a show cluster in Topeka, Kansas and it’s “so far, so good”. Venus is extending her points lead for “top bitch” nicely, and a client’s dog will go home with a new championship title.
And for those who keep pestering me for photos – here is the ungrateful creature who has hijacked your blog mistress, in the group ring in Calgary (taken earlier this month).
Thanks once again to the guest bloggers who have so ably filled in the gaps for us. Another 8 weeks or so and we should be able to call it a year.

Yes, the puppy in the painting is Venus as a puppy, with my neighbor’s daughter.
And when a dog has correct structure, it stands like that naturally. You only need to teach them to hold the position. And Phantom – (this I hardly need to explain) – but the wrod “bitch” is the correct term for a female dog. It’s only an insult when applied derisively to a human being. In the way “cow” or “pig” might be.
To take on the males in my breed this year would have required spending 20K for advertising alone, and relocating to the US for 6 months. The dogs competing for top schnauzer overall are all out with professional handlers and in the ring every weekend.
However, when Venus stood number 2 overall after the first quarter of the year, I decided top bitch was probably attainable.
She’ll be the first Canadian-owned to pull that off in our breed, as far as I am aware. So cross your fingers that we manage to keep up her winning pace in the next few weeks. 🙂
For a heart-warming doggie story, here’s a Youtube video of a happy (and huge!) Great Dane, named Emmit Thunderpaws, welcoming his US Army soldier-owner home from a year’s tour in Afghanistan.
The dog, bigger than his owner, is very happy and wagging his tail a mile a minute. 🙂

Kate, 20k as in $20,000? I don’t understand how advertizing helps win a competition (besides political elections). I thought winning titles and such would be the advertizing kudos needed for sales, breeding services and such. No wonder this is an expensive and time consuming “hobby”.

I haven’t been to your Homepage for years and for some unknown reason I did and clicked on ‘The Bike’.
Apart from the nice pic of you on your pre-customised ride I noted that your diary entry for your First ride was in fact eleven years ago to the day (August 24 2000)…funny that ?!
I’m sure much in your life has changed since that first ride… as it has in most everyone’s.
However, its nice to keep current in the things that help feed our soul and help maintain our sanity in this mad mad world we live in.
So if your commitments have cut into your own time don’t forget to at least take your bike out for a spin while the weather permits.
The leaves are already dropping here in central BC.
