The utterly feckless Obama administration just handed our chief grain export competitor a market of almost 50 million, second largest in South America. Most Canadian wheat is exported from Vancouver, whence it is an easy run to Buenaventura, one of the best Colombian grain ports. This is a totally unforced error from the current administration, one of depressingly many.
Oops…
Passing trade deals is something that “Congress can do right now,” remarked President Obama Monday at a town hall meeting in Cannon Falls, Minnesota.
Not so fast. The truth is that Congress can’t do anything on free trade agreements “right now,” because the President has yet to send the agreements to Congress for final approval, despite receiving recommendations on the agreements from Congress on July 7.

Harper played this one perfect on his recent Latin American trip, so glad we have an adult at the wheel of the Canadian economy cutting trade deals with Columbia and hopefully others soon. We are lucky in these times to have our leaders being just that, not Oprah/Sharpton syphophants looking to turn the operating of the biggest economy into a rap song like Obongo is doing.
The party line seems a bit confused:
It’s not glorious leader Obamugabe’s fault the “bad for the working people” FTAs aren’t before Congress,
some terrible Republican who is “selling ‘Murcans out to China” is responsible for delaying them.
Okaaaay, that’s gooood, see you laaater. Bye.
Canada one Obama ZERO!
But I thought he wasa constitutional law prof and would know the process…….
The process is, everything not correct is someone elses fault.
President Present.
No hat tip to andycanuck?
A pathetic fool for a President, very sad. Hopefully Americans wake up.
The Left turns on Obama
“Is Obama so isolated he can’t see that Americans are curled up in a ball, beaten down by a financial crisis, an identity crisis, a political crisis and a leadership crisis?
He got the job by blaming Washington. But once you’re in the White House, you are Washington. It’s like the plumber who came to fix the sink waiting for the sink to fix itself. ”

Obamas union bankrollers have and will continue to instruct him to sign no trade deals while in office. Just as he has done nothing on school vouchers (but still on occasion talks about them) and a dozen other issues. He will talk one way and do nothing about them.
Obama has already said that he won’t send the 3 Free Trade Agreements to Congress until Congress passes his gift to the Unions, ie; the “Trade Adjustment Assistance” program, (a $1 billion retraining program for U.S. workers who lose their jobs because of the new free-trade agreements).
Now that we have a free trade agreement with Colombia, a country that is now starting to get the upper hand against its FARC bandits, we should consider a military agreement as well.
The dictator Chavez in Venezuela is already providing covert support for the FARC bandits. As his nation’s economy goes down the tubes under his mismanagement, it’s quite possible that he may provoke an open war with Colombia to distract his own people from seeing the true root of their problems.
If we had something like a joint training agreement with Colombia, we could station some of our fighter aircraft there, ostensibly to give our crews experience flying in tropical conditions, but the presence of combat-ready planes there might deter Chavez from acting rashly.
The U.S.A., under the Marxist Obama, is abandoning capitalist Colombia, and leaning toward Marxist Venezuela, so there is a vacuum that needs to be filled. Colombia is already buying military supplies from Israel.
you people should be promoting obama’s reelection if his actions promote Canadian interests.
so why aren’t you? are you all republican expats?
“politics makes strange bedfellows”.
“you people should be promoting obama’s reelection if his actions promote Canadian interests.”
You don’t pull yourself up by encouraging your competitors to fail.
Leftists like yourself believe it’s a zero-sum game. Conservatives know better.
Obama’s still pis*ed at Colombia over some bad coke he got a few years back.
Why are Republicans so stupid? They all too often act as punching
bags for the Dems. And the Progressive Conservatives in Ontario
make the Republicans look like mental giants. It has even been
suggested that the PCs sold out to McGuinty supporters.
Thing is re Venezualla VS Columbia…Chavez has been getting supplied by Russia, Cuba and China…with increasing involvement by Iran…
Cuba needs Chavez aid support, with Russia’s withdrawl….Iran is backing Chavez to establish a western hemisphere beachhead/base….expect Iranian nuke tipped missiles in Venuzuella eventually.
Military Canada/Columbian would be advantageous to both and be stabilizing in the Carribean region….filling a vacuum created by US withdraw from Columbia. This will no doubt offend the OBAMUGABBE administration……
Where Obama walks he leaves grease spots behind he’s so slick about selling America out.
Frankly Canadians that don’t see a danger to us over all by bad US markets are nuts.
IF North Americans don’t stick up for each others. Tan others who hate us will explot the division.
Many followers of the Huffington Post are convinced that free trade agreements are destructive to the American economy. If this is a reflection of Democrat thinking well then there’s your problem.
you people should be promoting obama’s reelection if his actions promote Canadian interests.
so why aren’t you?..

because we’re more than just casual observers…
maybe an unforced error by the US but credit to Harper for going ahead. Remember, these initiatives were started while he had a minority government. Ra Ra
BINGO, Revnant Dream @2:43. I can’t imagine not wishing my friends and relatives in the USA well. We, like the patriots in America, are on the side of Liberty and prosperity for ‘We, the people’.
Bingo, Revnant Dream @ 2:43. Patriots on both sides of border wish the people in both nations Liberty and Prosperity. We have a good PM who believes in the values of Freedom and limited (useful) government, the Americans have a turdo – they kept us afloat when we floundered; we shall do the same for them. Both counties have enemies within – ours are neutered at present.
This is good news for the Western, soon to be wheat board free, farmers. Thank-you PM Stephen Harper. A good intelligent man on the same side as Canadian Producers…I am so glad I lived to see this day, I so wish my dad had.
Sorry for the double post – don’t know what happened but the first one disappeared so I re wrote.
Ahhh, come on. Let’s give the guy a break, eh. He is on vacation. Someone will get back to you and handle these petty details… say in about 17 months or so.
Bingo, Revnant Dream @ 2:43 is right and thanks Jema 54 for your second paragraph. Freedom hopes to reign.
Why was the Canadian deal 2 years after the making?
I don’t think it’s an error. It’s Obama Administration policy.
