London Riots
Olympic ambassador ‘hurled bricks at police car’ and led attack on Vodafone store during riots – and was shopped to police by her mum
A girl chosen as an ‘Olympic ambassador’ was turned in to police by her mother who saw her among rioters on TV.
An emotional Adrienne Ives, 47, said the decision which led to the arrest of her 18-year-old daughter Chelsea was ‘gut-wrenching’.
She said: ‘But I had to do what was right. She won’t thank us.’

According to British blogger Fitwatcher, Britain’s rioting goofballs are just reacting to gentrification, capitalism, and “shiny unattainable products shoved in (their) faces through advertising.” The upright, decent citizens who want law and order restored are, in contrast, disgustingly unaware:
The sort of inverted morality wherein cretinous, pleasure-seeking perps are deemed to be “victims,” and decent people who want order restored just don’t understand what’s going on is remarkably common among members of the British commentariat at newspapers like the Guardian, but the results of this recent poll (h/t Transmontanus) suggest that a large number of British citizens do indeed understand the truth: that the cretins who assault and humiliate and rob people, loot small businesses, and commit arson are doing so because they have been liberated from the prospect of being “harassed”:

Ew!
An anesthetist at a Marie Stopes abortion facility in Manchester has been accused of using the hands of unconscious women to perform sexual acts on himself as they underwent abortions.
Dr. Narendra Sharma is again facing allegations of misconduct at a hearing before the General Medical Council (GMC).
The Manchester Crown Court in April 2009 acquitted the anesthetist of charges that he abused three other clients in the same way. (…)
Sharma denies the allegations and claims he is a victim of racism, the same defense he offered two years earlier.

“The British Prime Minister and anyone else who thinks the riots are simply criminals running amok have their heads in the sand. What we’re witnessing are more likely the early – inevitable – repercussions of Reagan/Thatcher/Bush/Harper libertarianism. The rich and would-be rich would like to believe that effort and individual enterprise will deliver economic equity, since this belief absolves them of any moral responsibility relative to the have-nots. It stretches credulity, however, to claim that laziness is the cause of these riots.”
What libertarianism? We live in a heavily regulated semi-socialist welfare state where governments waste ridiculous amounts of tax money. The moral responsibility they have to everybody is to cut back the wastefulness of the state so that businesses can create productive jobs for the young again and enable them to have a prosperous standard of living.
This letter is a prime example of how leftist cretins blame capitalism for the sins of its enemies. The same is true for the unadulterated garbage found on the Fitwatch blog that EBD linked to previously.

“The belief that governments could provide the myriad of programs they try to administer — including health care, education, pensions, housing, food, legal aid and unemployment insurance — is the biggest fantasy of them all.
Taxing the middle class and the rich to pay for all this can only work for so long. At some point, the burden imposed by excessive taxation and regulations will prevent entrepreneurs from risking their capital. We have reached that point and yet governments continue to borrow or print money to keep the party going.”

“What ever happened to ‘Yes, we can’? Signs of the ‘Obamaclypse’”
“The psychological needs of a nation in crisis are exactly the same as individuals in personal crises: We want to be reassured that it won’t always be like this, and we want to know that there is a plan to get us out of the mess. What’s the first step? And the one after that?
But the truth is, we don’t really want our economic reassurance to come just from our leaders and their words. We want it in bank statements and investment reports that tell us we’re all not going to be dead broke, and we want it in job offers and promotions and startups that allow us to think we’re “safe for another year.”
Woe betide the leader who cannot address those needs and then even fails at weaving a web of reassurance. “Withholder-in-chief” was one headline in The New York Times, while many letters to the editor summed up even the Democrats’ (especially the Democrats’) profound disappointment in a leader they had counted on to be a transformational president, but who has instead tepidly presided over the daycare antics of a divided Congress during the debt-ceiling debate.

“How low will the river go?”
“Area tourism operators, shoreline businesses and recreational boaters are watching water levels drop on the St. Lawrence River with trepidation.
Levels on Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River are down about a foot from the high-water mark experienced in June when concerns were being raised about soil erosion and docks being submerged after heavy spring rains and extensive snowmelt from the winter.
But now, despite a reduction in the amount of water flowing through the Robert Moses Saunders Power Dam in Cornwall, the alarm is being raised over fears that a further drop in water levels appears inevitable.

Loki @ 12:46 ponders ” , I’ve always wondered about how one deals with a flat front tire on a motorcycle “.
Usually you have it repaired while the rest of the bike and yourself is being put back together. A flat on a bike can be very scary.
Years ago, I was travelling across country and in between Nowhere,Montana and Middle of Nowhere,Montana I had a rear flat. This was minutes after taking off the helmet, luckily I had just cracked a beer(tricky, but it can be done)and was not exceeding the suggested speed limit. I did not crash.
I got off the highway and started taking the wheel off. A woman, one of those bad Americans, pulled over(she was alone),and then waited while I got the wheel off. She then took me into the nearest town, about 20 miles away, brought me to the garage to drop off the wheel, then took me to her family bar while it was being fixed. When the tire was patched, she drove me back to my bike.

“When Michael Ignatieff resigned as leader of Canada’s Liberals at a press conference in Toronto on May 3rd, members of his team were seen at the back of the room in tears. They were grieving not just for their party—which the previous day had suffered the worst defeat in its history, coming a first-ever third place in the federal election, behind not only their Conservative Party tormentors but also the left-wing New Democrats. They were grieving even more for the death of a dream, the sad end of a six-year experiment that they had once believed would conclude with a unique man, Ignatieff himself, pulling the sword of political governance out of the stone of political theory and coming to power in Canada as a contemporary philosopher-king.”

To explain the titanic failure of Mr. Ignatieff by describing his opponent as a warmer, fuzzier being is off track. I might describe Mr. Layton as folksy, but never Mr. Harper.

“China’s decision to suspend all new high-speed railway projects, pending further checks on the safety of its much-vaunted high-speed railway network, is yet another indication of how deeply the Wenzhou rail disaster has spooked the powers-that-be in Beijing.
The government in China may be autocratic, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t keen to be seen to respond to public outrage, particularly when it feels the noose of hostile public opinion, which has veered towards lynch-mob mentality of late, tightening around its neck. Even the trusted party mouthpiece, People’s Daily, warned after the accident about the risk of “Bloody GDP” – putting economic gain above people’s lives. (And as the railway corruption scandals have shown, China’s major investment projects tend to bring “economic benefits” to party officials more quickly than anything else.)”
