The insane spending of President Obama and his merry Dems looks like it’s returning America to the situation it was in just under 3 years ago. It possibly could be even a lot worse. Mark Steyn has just published an important, but depressing, column about the state of affairs in Washington, DC. Here’s a key section:
If you owe the bank a thousand dollars, you have a problem; if you owe the bank a million dollars, the bank has a problem. If you owe the banks 15,000,000,000,000 dollars, the planet has a problem.

The voters either get rid of the tyrant & his cronies, or America is finished.
Do what Ralph Klein did. Cut the welfare rolls.
End food stamps. Than stop insanities like busing & other social failures from the 20th century, that have never worked plus never will.
Stcorporateawelfarefae with its evil twin science welfare. Let Individual innovation occur, not statism.
Start speaking out the truth about the lefts grand plan to make us all ants. The insanity of big government with endless entitlements.
Than allow prayer back in a Nation on the slope of moral collapse.

I’m astonished at the mendacious and malicious political agenda of Obama and the Democrats.
Obama has only one goal; his power over others and his re-election. He’s not interested in America or Americans. His agenda is to BUY his re-election, by expanding the Dependent Class (dependent on govt funding). This class is made up of the unionized public service (Obama’s Stimulus was geared to preserving their jobs and wasn’t meant for ‘shovel-ready’ private enterprise)..and the exploding ratio of people who pay no taxes but live off social security, unemployment and other benefits. I’d include the illegals in this set and Obama’s agenda (DREAM) is to bring them into his following.
To do this, Obama needs to increase the deficit to expand the entitlement programs. And, he wants more money; I’m betting that he wants to give all his following some special benefit during his campaign this fall/next year.
Obama would, in my view, actually like a default; remember, Obama influences people by emotional manipulation ..Remember his Hope and Change, his oceans ceasing to rise, his Pass the Stimulus or the Economy Will Tank; his Pass ObamaCare or doctors will cut off your limbs for money. And note how he divides people into ethnic groups (Hispanics – fight your enemies!); into race; into political partisans. Obama enjoys sitting back and watching groups fight each other..
Obama would like a default so that he can blame his newest enemy: the Tea Party. Obama considers them a threat to his re-election..and his re-election is all that matters.
But – think about the rhetoric against the Tea Party – that they are hardline radicals. WHAT? What is radical about wanting limited government, reduced taxation..and a…think about it..a balanced budget.
But – say those two words: BAlANCED BUDGET..to a Democrat, and they fall over as if zapped by an evil curse.
These axioms of the Tea Party: its focus on fiscal responsibility, not spending more than you take in, reducing taxation to enable INVESTMENT within and by the private sector…and balancing your budget. These are simple, basic ordinary commonsense!!!! What’s radical?
What I find evil – and I use the word with intent – is the bland careless agenda of ‘living-in-the-red’; of constantly living, not on what you earn but on what you can borrow. Oh – and you have no intention of paying it off. heck no, your children and grandchildren can do that. Now – is that responsible? Is that mature? Is that right..to do that to the future generation?
This is an economic mode that operates only within Consumption and focuses on expanding Consumers. How? By taxing the private sector, which is the only part of an economy that produces wealth (the public sector consumes but does not produce wealth)..and then giving this money to the non-productive..so that they can consume.
BUT – this means that you’ve deprived the economy of any money to INVEST! No savings to lend to new businesses; no money to repair infrastructure (it all goes to unionized public service); no money to hire more workers; no money to set up a new factory. You’ve starved the nation of its capacity to produce wealth..because you’ve eaten all its investment money.
This Obama-Democrat Gang have one focus: Power. They use entitlements and ‘freebies’ to ensnare a passive, increasingly dependent following. They deliberately destroy the middle class, the small businessman (who are in that 200,000 income range, a range that Obama redefines as ‘a millionaire).
They are sucking up all the wealth/profit of these small businesses and thus preventing INVESTMENT and preventing more hiring, preventing expansion of these businesses. Why?
They want the money..to give to CONSUMERS. But an economy that CONSUMES all its wealth and doesn’t INVEST it…is finished.
That’s Obama. The Tea Party, on the other hand, is based on commonsense, realism, and responsibility. Now, why is that defined as radical?
A: When I open this page, the story (vid) of the Australian Carbon Tax comes on in the background. .
B: Obama did not solely create the 14.5 trillion deficit. You’re totally disillusioned if you believe that.
C: Statements like “Obama would like a default so that he can blame his newest enemy, the Tea party,” are insane. If there is a default, Obama, The Tea Party and/or the Republicans will not have a place to hold an election, much less win one.
D: Who’s side am I on?? The side(s) that will come to a compromise on the settlement.
Despite Obambam’s personality flaws and the house and senate’s antics, it remains the responsibility of the average American voter to ensure the survival of the republic. So long as the average American voter refuses to face that fact the nonsense that passes as political discourse in Washington DC shall remain.
Joe:
Ditto.
Mr. Drylander re: A- Same problem here! And has to run thru to its conclusion.
I just can’t understand why the bigwigs don’t get that their descendants will live in virtual servitude because of what they are doing now. America won’t just be a fallen empire. It will be dust for future generations to sweep up. The brakes have to come on now.

“C: Statements like “Obama would like a default so that he can blame his newest enemy, the Tea party,” are insane. If there is a default, Obama, The Tea Party and/or the Republicans will not have a place to hold an election, much less win one.”
your post exemplifies the electorate that is too dumb and/or uniformed to grasp the actual concept
ET, unlike Drylander, I applaud what you wrote! It’s well thought out analysis.
As for Drylander’s assertion that America will no longer exist if it defaults in a few days, THAT is pure nonsense!
” Obama did not solely create the 14.5 trillion deficit. You’re totally disillusioned if you believe that” Drylander
We all seem to forget that Pelosi won the House in 2006, the Democrats along with the RINO’s in the Senate started the drive into this, somewhat phony, economic morass. (Bush was a lame duck)
Obama & Pelosi thought they would have a quick turnaround, but confidence once lost takes more than the babble of a teleprompter…
Wait for the second shoe to drop….
It is disheartening to come here day after day, and find comments posted by people who clearly haven’t spent five minutes doing research.
RevDream, for example, posits the US could solve its problems by cutting welfare payments. Apparently, s/he is unaware that in the US such payments are state and local responsibilities, not federal.
The four big items in the US federal budget are: defense, medicare/medicaid, social security, and interest. As Steyn’s article points out, despite spending more money on defense than THE REST OF THE WORLD COMBINED, the US can’t even defeat a tinpot like Quaddafi. Why do they keep spending that much money? If I were running US defense, I’d renounce all foreign wars for now, and ramp up spending on cheaper, faster, more intelligent, and deadlier drones. Forget carriers; make more, smaller, more agile navy groups fitted with tens of thousands of drones. Then you can fight a war on many fronts, cheaply, without expending your young men and women.
Medicare/medicaid eat up almost as much of the US GDP as all of Canada’s socialized medicine. Yet US life expectancy constantly trails that of Canada. Yes, if you have exotic cancers or diseases, you can get better treatment in the US if you can pay for it. This normally occurs at the end of your life, and you spend huge amounts of money for the privilege of living your last days in and out of hospital, on debilitating drugs, with a very low quality of life. Still, if you have the money, I agree that it’s your choice. But does it really make sense to bankrupt your country to give that choice to people for free? If you don’t have the money to pay for exceptional end of life care, why should everyone else pick up the tab?
Social security: why should millionaires still collect SS? Give them a tax break on SS foregone, and call it a day.
Interest: this is the real problem. Greenie and the Bernank have been dedicated to keeping interest rates at historically low levels, to minimize the interest the US pays. However, as the total debt rises, the interest bill keeps going up, and any downgrade to the US credit ratings will only push that bill higher. An average rate of 3% on 14 trillion is almost $500 billion a year; a couple more years of Bambam’s deficits, and the amount of money spent on interest will eclipse that spent on defence.
If the US is to solve its problems, it needs to reign in its imperialistic ambitions until it find a cheap way to wage war that doesn’t involve American service men and women. It needs to find a way to rationalize spending on the last few months of life. It needs to rationalize social security. And finally, it needs to get off the debt treadmill, else all of the above will be useless.
I’m astonished at the mendacious and malicious political agenda of Obama and the Democrats.

I agree with your comment, beyond astonished…I am vexed.
B: Obama did not solely create the 14.5 trillion deficit.
~Drylander
It (the $14.5 trillion) is the national debt, it is not the deficit.
The deficit is $1.7 trillion per annum in spending above revenues and if spending isn’t cut, that level of deficit spending is unsustainable.
D: Who’s side am I on?? The side(s) that will come to a compromise on the settlement.
~Mr, Drylander
Deficit spending must end.
A comprise would see deficit spending continue until no more money could be borrowed to sustain the deficit spending.
The Balanced Budget Amendment(BBA) would reduce annual spending to the level of revenues that the U.S. government collects.
No compromise can be had that will continue federal spending at $1.7 Trillion above revenues received(deficit spending) and raising taxes to sustain such deficits is unsustainable with a tax base that has been shrinking since 2008.
It is time for a fix on overspending, not a compromise with it.
Again, it is important to understand the difference between ‘debt’ and ‘deficit’, that to ‘compromise’ means deficit spending beyond revenues, and that an increase in revenues means increasing taxes on an ever shrinking tax base.(unsustainable)
This will cause some hate on this site, but oh well. The republicans are far from innocent themselves in this, as they seem intent on stopping any increase on the debt ceiling. It is obvious that they only want Obama to fail and don’t give a shit what happens to the country in the meantime.
The republicans are far from innocent themselves in this, as they seem intent on stopping any increase on the debt ceiling.
~Adital
Why have a debt ceiling at all?
Why don’t the Democrats just ask that the debt ceiling be eliminated altogether and then just spend until they can’t get any more funding for their deficit spending?
Do you want them to dance until the music stops(time to pay the piper sooner than you think) and then see which of us has a seat and which of us don’t?
I’ll tell you right now that I have no personal debt, I’m all stocked up mortgage free and ready to ride the Tsunami.
Are you?
I don’t care how lucky you feel, because it won’t be about luck.
It’ll be Darwin time, ant and the grasshopper time.
Fun fact: Reagan raised the debt ceiling 18 times, Bush Jr. 7 times.
The number of times the debt ceiling is raised is irrelevent.
It could be raised 100 times and then raised once but that one last time would allow more spending than the 100 times before it combined.
Watch out for that last step, it’s a doozie.

Aditol said…”Reagan raised the debt ceiling 18 times”.
That works out to a (raise the debt vote) every five months during Reagans term, I don’t remember hearing any mention of that at the time.
But if true, then Obama shouldn’t have a problem with Boehners short term relief and a new vote in six months.
The truth is after default, there will still be money for SS cheques, and Medicaid and the soldiers.
There will even be enough to pay the interest on the debt.
The problem is that there won’t be anything left for all the NEW spending Obama has created in the last 2 years.
That is the end of the world every democrat is crying about.
To many… thats NOT the end of the world but the beginning of a new one!
Adital @ 2:08 A.M. Regan didn’t raise the debt ceiling; Congress did. Bush didn’t raise the debt ceiling; Congress did. Stick to the argument Subtractital. The illegal president of the USA has spent more money at a faster rate than anyone in history and is predicting trillion dollar deficits for as far as the eye can see. The bond market will just LOVE that (Sarc).
The USA is now toast as there is NO solution that will save them. when they go crash they won’t be buying stuff from Canada and Canada will go crash. Hope that makes you happy, Divideital.
Dig Barry, dig.
Because everyone knows borrowing even more money is the sure fire way to get back on an even financial keel.
drylander – I don’t agree with your comments which I consider superficial.
B) It is irrelevant that Obama didn’t create the current DEBT (not deficit). He, by the way, in his three years in office, added 3 trillion to that debt.
BUT – he’s the president now; he has to deal with it. Are you seriously suggesting that because this debt is accumulated over many years, that the current President should ignore it?
That’s like buying a house and declaring that ‘since I didn’t build it, then, I won’t fix the old lead water pipes or get a new rooft’. Heh.
C. Default – ‘wouldn’t have a place’? What does that mean? The US would, whoosh, in a cloud of smoke, disappear?
D. Your ‘D’ compromise is an empty statement. Compromise is two-sided by the way, and you are ignoring CONTENT in favour of process. When I repair my house, it may be a compromise to simply put silicone putty around the lead pipes but that doesn’t deal with the real content-problem of those pipes.
So- I reject your points as empty.
Regarding someone’s suggestion and sending in the drones …….. The US cannot win a war because they are loathe to create even one bit of collateral damage. Not one person must be accidentally killed in the pursuit of America’s enemies. That is not how you can win a war. War is messy and winning it calls for ruthless action.
Rebuilding infrastructure right after bombing it will nourish your enemies and they love it. These are the reasons American can’t win anymore. Drones will cause politically incorrect killing and the is why they won’t be deployed willy-nilly.
Regarding someones suggestion that a compromise must be reached ….. On the economy, there is no compromise (aka half measures) possible that will solve the problem. Only years of severe austerity and shrinking of government, reneging on some of the union benefits that have been bestowed on government unions and at state levels teachers unions in particular will any affect on what is needed. A recall of Obama care… a roll back of environmental and other restrictions that are ham stringing the development of cheap energy and energy self-sufficiency will do. A separation of Government and Wall Street would help a lot too.
All this phoney negotiating and posturing must end … To Quote Mickey Roarke in one of his older movies “enough foreplay, it’s time to fu*k”
Mark Steyn is right … the world is about to change in a big way and very soon.
Abe Froman, yes and in more ways than one and it won’t be pretty.
