Vancouver political insider Alex Tsakumis has published a most stunning indictment in & around the recent riots. Here are some snippets:
Despite the warnings, the brooding, simmering cauldron of booze, drugs and anarchy, Penny Ballem and Gregor Robertson wouldn’t budge. They were joined by the Premier who, as only she can, exclaimed, “It’ll be GREAT! Imagine when we win it all!” Notice the word ‘we’ and the wholly transparent efforts to identify with the winning team–well, what should have been the winning team. So desperate was Clark to hitch her wagon to the Canucks’ championship destiny (a rapidly fizzled proposition) that her every public speaking engagement of late was on the Canucks or ended with some typically dim-witted Clark reference to the Cup. Her press scrums ended with increasing references to the same thing. It was the ‘prom queen’ routine–all heels and hypocrisy.
In Vancouver, the police begged for help and were ignored by the pot-smoking, nirvana-loving, socks and sandals set running the city. It’s beyond pathetic.
Then there’s the Mayor. No one contributed to the potential for such a disaster and eye sore than Gregor Robertson. His insistence that public disobedience and intoxication was somehow a sign of a “fun city” have the anarchists and hooligans a platform on which to perform. He is singularly reposnisble for not reigning in Dr. Bedlam and firing her and for not coming clean on the plain and simple fact: He screwed up. Robertson has spent three years turning Vancouver into a commune; a public toilet and ashtray. His policies of chicken coops and unnecessary bike lanes have siphoned tens of millions of dollars which should have gone towards needs like policing.

Been following AGT’s blog for about a year now, when you want the lowdown on B.C. politics,it’s the place to go.
Tsakumis should get a medal for his expose of the B.C. Rail scandal, and the MSM in B.C. should hang their heads in shame over their lack of attention to it.
It looks like the riots were the result of bad decisions and outright incompetence on the part of Vancouver’s Mayor and City Manager, and the Police Chief doesn’t look very competent either.
Dear punks of Vancouver,
Cheers for providing me yet another event to demonstrate to my kids that everything you do outside your room will be on film.
Water polo scholarship? Bwahahahahahaha
Gregor’s Riot.
Plain & simple. The ballot box issue for the fall elections.
64. A riot is an unlawful assembly that has begun to disturb the peace tumultuously.
67. A person who is
(a) a justice, mayor or sheriff, or the lawful deputy of a mayor or sheriff,
(b) a warden or deputy warden of a prison, or
(c) the institutional head of a penitentiary, as those expressions are defined in subsection 2(1) of the Corrections and Conditional Release Act, or that person’s deputy,
who receives notice that, at any place within the jurisdiction of the person, twelve or more persons are unlawfully and riotously assembled together shall go to that place and, after approaching as near as is safe, if the person is satisfied that a riot is in progress, shall command silence and thereupon make or cause to be made in a loud voice a proclamation in the following words or to the like effect:
“Her Majesty the Queen charges and commands all persons being assembled immediately to disperse and peaceably to depart to their habitations or to their lawful business on the pain of being guilty of an offence for which, on conviction, they may be sentenced to imprisonment for life. GOD SAVE THE QUEEN.”
68. Every one is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for life who
(a) opposes, hinders or assaults, wilfully and with force, a person who begins to make or is about to begin to make or is making the proclamation referred to in section 67 so that it is not made;
(b) does not peaceably disperse and depart from a place where the proclamation referred to in section 67 is made within thirty minutes after it is made; or
(c) does not depart from a place within thirty minutes when he has reasonable grounds to believe that the proclamation referred to in section 67 would have been made in that place if some person had not opposed, hindered or assaulted, wilfully and with force, a person who would have made it.
69. A peace officer who receives notice that there is a riot within his jurisdiction and, without reasonable excuse, fails to take all reasonable steps to suppress the riot is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years.
The tools to deal with riots are in the Criminal Code. The mayor and chief of police should both be arrested for failing to read the riot act and enforce the law.
Keep an eye on Nathan Kotylak, the star athlete who was caught torching a police car. Our illustrious premier has said they will persecute the rioters to the fullest extent of the law but I expect some exceptions will be made. I also expect the Canadian justice system will have to outsource the wrist slapping.
Whenthe last hippie dies. The world will fart in relief.
One of his commenters asks:”Why is MSM ignoring this?” Duh..
‘cuz they can’t blame Harper, or Harris , or Bush.
There are none so blind as those who will not see.
I don’t go to Vancouver very often so I am really not that familiar with the culture etc but I had hunch that there would be some sort of riot. Before the game was over my son who likewise doesn’t go to Vancouver called and asked me if I was going to break my no CBC rule so I could watch the riots.
Incompetence doesn’t begin to describe the situation.
Serious Reds never regard police action as a valid response to ANYTHING until AFTER THE REVOLUTION.
Can anyone enlighten me? I had heard that the police read the riot act. Is this true or not. In any case there is allowance within it for a lessor sentence when it is not read.
There was a time – not that long ago – that we would send our young men off to war. They would be able to vent their piss and vinegar there and by the time they returned (if they did), they had usually seen enough needless destruction to mature them. Now we let them wage war on us.
Overlapping layers of incompetency indeed. I read somewhere that prior to game seven the police had sore hands from all the high fives they received from the “fun loving” crowds.
I suspect that young Nathan received nothing but high fives from his parents leading up to this also.
Real cops and parents understand that friendship with the community at large or your kids is not the objective, nice if it works out that way but not your primary role.
That should read “Realistic cops and”…
An ER nurse responds to a “sorry” from a rioter.

fire them all.
It’s not just the current granola crunchers in chage that are at fault. You forget that the rot started earlier. Just look at this list of former mayors-
1967–1972 Tom Campbell Independent, later Non-partisan Association
1972–1976 Art Phillips TEAM
1976–1980 Jack Volrich TEAM, later Independent
1980–1986 Michael Harcourt Independent
1986–1993 Gordon Campbell Non-partisan Association
1993–2002 Philip Owen Non-partisan Association
2002–2005 Larry Campbell Coalition of Progressive Electors later Vision Vancouver
2005–2008 Sam Sullivan Non-partisan Association
2008–present Gregor Robertson Vision Vancouver.
67-72 Tom Campbell, then commonly known as Tom T Asshole, botched his own riot in Gastown. From there, we went downhill with Liberal/socialist after liberal/socialist culminating with this last asshole Gord Robertson. The people of Vancouver have consistently voted for incompetent mayors since my memory, and continue to reap the rewards.
I’m told that Vancouver is “crawling with Orientals”.
Why are they missing from the riot photos?
The lefties running Vancouver (including their police chief) sound identical to those running Toronto under Mayor David ‘Moonbeam’ Miller, who were in charge during Toronto’s G20 riots. Same lame “leadership”, similar results.
Hopefully evolution will catch up with Vancouver someday, the voting in of these left wing teat suckers has been costly for you people, I’m sure Robert sometimes feels like Dennis Miller or Roy Green, trapped in a socialist utopian shithole with all the intelligence and answers to save it but must watch it slowly die like an old cancer eyed cow, not pretty if you let it play out. Keep your head up Robert, we are slowly winning, a mere 10 years since the purge of Turdopian Canada started, it will take a bit longer, but be worth it. Send idiots like Hedy a message, get lost useful idiot , globull warming believers and polar bear lovers need to be ostrasized and ridiculed, right Suzuki. Clean up, move on Van, your team is good, but not good enough, no need to burn the city.
The Police do not need to read the “Riot Act” but their inability to respond was/is simply a reaction to the PC nonsense and the chilling effect of the various human rights commissions, special interest groups and media coverage of a number of issues and events.
Why anyone would want to be a sworn law/peace enforcement officer is beyond me as they could earn 2X their salary at any of the human rights offices or other leftist redress agencies.
Here in N Sask – all the RCMP have been pretty much centralized but perhaps we will get protection 24/7 from the SHRC?
When politician’s interfer with police services they should be charged with inferfering with legitimate law enforcement. Mayors should not have the power to tell the cops how to enforce the law or how to do their jobs. Frankly Vancouver has been leftarded land for decades thus nothing that happens on the “left coast” surprises me.
Incompetence will be rewarded if these jokers can come up with a barnburner of a ‘healing’ speech and get the unions plus other government loafers in special interest groups to attack the rational adults. Which they can likely do, it works year-after-year in many municipalities, often at the provincial or state level, and occasionally at the federal level such as the Obama administration – he is an utterly incompetent President and he’s appointed absolute fools to his Departments – but not one news organization is willing to attack Him because ‘journalists’ are cowards.
The Tea Party at least recognizes this and will hopefully be able to do something about it, hopefully.
There is not much hope for the Left coast, the narrow-minded old liberal dinosaurs have a lock on power and will do anything to screw everyone before they relinquish control, they are a very nasty bunch – liberals like nothing more than to screw people over, all the while they have a big smile on their smug faces – and they get away with it.
While it may be true that silly hall screwed up with policing requirements, I still maintain that the idiots that looted, rioted, burned cars and otherwise participated in civil disobedience did so with the full intention of wreaking havoc no matter what the game outcome. Normal law abiding folks don’t break the law just because there are not enough police in the area.
To put the problem of today’s society in perspective, there is a letter in the Halifax paper from a lady who is outraged that Vancouver fans rioted. To quote her ” It was bad enough that we did the same things at the G8 and G20 summits, which in all fairness was far more warranted and/or deserving.” So there is a good reason to riot??? The idiocy and irony of it all, amazes and disgusts me.
Texas Canuck
The gal in Halifax is illustrative of the leftard mentality…rioting for a leftard approved cause is o.k. because the motivation is ideologically correct.
Hockey riots on the other hand can be attributed to redneck sports enthusiasts and mob influenced yutes.
Neat and tidy.
Compartmentalized ethics and relative integrity are the order of the day.
Anybody ever hear of the Nika Riot back in the olden days? Blues vs. the Greens? Short Wiki entry here, but I remember reading about this and comparing it to Vancouver;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nika_riots
How sad a lumberjack town turned into this.
Almost makes me want to move back to Forest Lawn but BRRRRRR…
These old bones need more than just stampede week for summer.
Vancouver is very strict in it’s anti tobacco policing, Robert. It is very difficult to find a public ashtray so smokers are forced to use the curb. Is this the case with public toilets also? Are you saying that the streets are being turned into ashtrays and toilets because there are no toilets or ashtrays anywhere? I do agree with you but I think that the reasons for these two realities is not due to lack of policing.
Actions have consequences. The people running Vancouver are stuck on political stupid, at all levels, IMO. Enforcing anti smoking with a Nazi type zeal whilst ignoring druggies, robbers, teenage sex slaves, car jackers, etc is stupid; and further, is just like what Hitler did! Many fine Canadian lads died to keep Canada free from this type of Hitler ‘stupid’.
Cpt. Capitalism
I did not know that but your comparison works on may levels.
Cpt. Capitalism
I did not know that, but your comparison works on many levels.
Doh!
I was listening to Sean Leslie(the Red) on CKNW today when a lady phoned in to say that when she lived in Bel Aire , Ca and they had the forest fires it was announced that any looters would be “shot”.Guess what?.There were no lootings.
Thats not the issue. The issue is that Sean Leslie was APPAULED that people might be shot for looting.
Typical socialist!!!
To Peter O’Keeffe@ 4:44
The “Orientals” are there if you look for them. One in a Canucks shirt with a hockey stick exiting the Bay and in a Video of the they can be seen running around helping themselves to all kinds of good stuff before they head for whats left of the door and windows.
As Tonto said to the Lone Ranger, as he looked upon the line of Indian brethren up on top of the cliff:
‘What do you mean we, white man?’
Retribution, incarceration or restorative justice?
A timely article –

C_Miner, I read the nurse’s response to the faux apology of a particular trouble-maker (the fact that it was so poorly written on his part is just salt in the wound). Let everyone at the top read the nurse’s letter. No one needs “healing” or “more nurses”. They need a kick to the @$$.
There was an assertion earlier on in these comments that no one of Asian descent was involved in the riots. Wrong. One absolute truth is that younger morons of ALL ethnicities were involved in the violence.
Here’s a non-Facebook page that documents some of the despicable thugs.
Wondering what the risk would be of this happening again if they had shot a few?… just asking.
Election in Vancouver in the Fall? Great timing. Need to start the movement to reverse the control that the left have been gradually and so successfully establishing through local politics. If a city that’s moved so “left” can somehow wake-up, say “enough” and start to turn it around would speak volumes. I know, “dream-on”, but if Toronto can do it, just maybe Vancouver could become “ground zero” on the left coast for taking our country back.
Photographic sequence during the initial riot.

KUDOS to Captain Vancouver

Hey, We can send Obama and his “crew” to help straighten out the mess! LOL
Found Alex in the 24hour hand-out paper at the SkyTrain stations, and it was the start of a …well, eclectic relationship – up and down and all around. Still, he demands a lot of respect because he gets the stories since he is trusted.
O.K. I’m stupid and I’ll admit it.
After reading the one paragraph in the ER nurse’s letter, I would like to know: do normal young people behave in a hospital like that if they’re not stoned and/or drunk?
I didn’t mean it to be a rhetorical question but realize now it is as it’s the kind of behaviour seen at Queen’s U homecoming so I have the answer next door.
But still, this kind of behaviour in an ER?
WHERE ARE THE PARENTS WHEN THESE KIDS ARE GROWING UP??
What does it take to raise a child who becomes a punk? I don’t care if he has outgrown it by the age of 30, what did the parents do that at 17-25 their child disrespects the law, their community, and have no regard for other people?
I grew up during the depression. There were men of every age unemployed. They walked the roads and rode the rails anxiously seeking work. Their shoes had cardboard covering the holes in the soles. AND, many of them were returned veterans from the trenches.
I witnessed this firsthand and am disgusted with what “the good times” we longed for has reduced us to: young people from good, well-to-do homes with absolutely no respect for the law, their community, and other people’s well-being.
No, don’t send them to war. Send them to bootcamp. There are many sergeants who could break those basta#ds in three months.
Both the mayor and the chief of police ought to have resigned by now on principle for failing the citizens of Vancouver. Falling on one’s sword has always been the counterpoint to the perquisites of high office.
The hooligans on the streets absolved themselves of the most basic responsibilities of good citizenship; the mayor and chief of police appear to have absolved themselves of the most basic responsibilities of good leadership.
