Is There Nothing That Obama Can’t Do?

You know, even in her declining condition, I think Maggie Thatcher could still beat the crap out of him. And she ought to.

Washington signed on to a “draft declaration on the question of the Malvinas Islands” passed by unanimous consent by the General Assembly of the Organisation of American States (OAS) at its meeting in San Salvador yesterday, an issue which had been heavily pushed by Argentina. In doing so, the United States sided not only with Buenos Aires, but also with a number of anti-American regimes including Hugo Chavez’s Venezuela and Daniel Ortega’s Nicaragua.
The declaration calls for Argentina and Great Britain to enter into negotiations over the sovereignty of the Falklands, a position which London has long viewed as completely unacceptable. It also comes in the wake of increasing aggression by the Kirchner regime in the past 18 months, including threats to blockade British shipping in the South Atlantic.

  1. Can a declaration not signed by GB force GB to do anything or is this just silly posturing by the usual suspects?

It’s posturing, for sure, but definitely interesting that they would choose this particular time, nearly 30 years later, to dredge up the issue. I think the earlier comment about China ratcheting up the pressure about Taiwan has, disturbingly, a lot of merit too. Right now on the international stage, everyone from the ChiComs to theocratic regimes in the Middle East to little two-bit dictators in South America knows that if they want to make a play without American interference, now is the time.

  3. I truly wonder what kind of mincemeat the British Army would make of the Argie conscripts this time after fighting 10 long years in Iraq and Afghanistan and building up a cadre of salty vets like they have now.

  4. Obama represents and executes the desires and mores of the most important, intelligent, and humane Americans: the academics, the artists, the African-Americans, the gays, the bureaucrats, the lawyers, and graduates of the Kennedy School of Government, and Yale and Harvard. His judgment is the best of the best of the world, and if the residents of Las Malvinas don’t want to be ruled by Kirchner, they can return to Scotland clinging to their sheep, guns, and religion on the ships that take them to their ancestral home.
How come you Canadians turned into Republicans? You know better than that. Where are you Canadian values: let our elected leaders and their bureacracy lead us to our brighter future of peace and understanding between peoples.
And, no, I couldn’t write that without laughing. I’m sorry Commandante Zero is our supreme leader, but he has many years left to rule. The America which believed in freedom and independence is gone. The world will be changed. No sense gripin’ ’bout it.

  5. Where the EFF are the Maldives, or whatever?
The Argies can just FO .. The Falklands are British.
