  1. Special Message for Canadian callers to the Dennis Miller Show:
Gord et al, Sarah (@ the show) wants to write a song about the Canadian regulars to Dennis’s show. Gord Tulk is one. So is “Neil from Toronto”. I think there are a few others.
I’m helping her gather a little info about each, which she’ll use for the lyrics. If you are a Canadian regular to the show then please contact me. Merci beaucoup!

  2. EBD, After watching that walk in the park I’m self-diagnosing an apparent onset of vertigo.

  3. People who do this kind of thing, are sick, or else very, very weird. I thought I was gonna puke.
Please don’t use the term courage or bravery when describing these people, it is a simple matter of – so sense, no feeling!

  4. We’ve spent a couple of days in Huangshan, the Yellow Mountains. Nothing as giddy as that video but some interesting walks to say the least.

  5. EBD, Hitchens’ essay (10:02 pm) was one of the more thoughtful and touching pieces I have read in a long time. We do not realize how much of the self is imbued in a voice, and how the ability to communicate is a honing process–you launch your ideas towards someone else and theirs’ come back to you–and bit by bit your ideas sharpen. Too many communications are monologues and too few are conversations. Thanks for this.

ah see the rush of legislative demands of the maoized conservatives.
what is a good loyal conservative to do?
anyway, who’s seen those ads fro diapers for 4 yr olds? do you know what that’s all about? it’s those 3rd generation super-absorbant styles that rob the infant and toddler of the icky feeling of pyss in their crotch. they never get the feedback necessary to engage the instinct to make the connection between the mess in their pants and the fact they just then let go.
I predict a generation of pampered (pun intended) adults that still and always wet themselves.
I suppose now you’re going to blame the liberals.

  7. EBD – Rita, Hitchens can be thoughtful and touching when he isn’t vilifying others and even saints for their beliefs. On the other hand, he now seldom is critical to Jewish believers since finding out that he is the son of a Jewish mother. And, as Dr. Johnson noted that nothing composes the mind so well as when that know that have only a short time to live.

  8. Someone help me out here please…
A few months ago, my GF moved into my house that I have owned for 12 years without her. We just sold this house and bought another together. The lawyer called today to ask how long my GF and I were together. I wasn’t sure but figured it was just under two years. Lawyer tells me that I need to be sure because over two years complicates things. How so? Here it is:
If we were together over two years in Sask, she gets a say in whether I can sell my own house or not, even if she is not a titled owner. Reason being that she has property rights after 24 months. Fair enough, I guess. But my house (without her name on it) was sold and the funds received was applied to the new house (with her name on it) so she now gets an equal share in a house that I paid the entire equity in. Still, not a problem because I am entering this arraignment free and clear. I know, this has not worked out for many before me. Please stay with me.
My problem is that she is legally required to hire her own lawyer for this simple transaction in order to provide her with independent legal council. Partly because my lawyer and I are such bullies that she can’t make up her own mind. But also because she is such an idiot that she can’t understand that she is benefiting from this deal unless she has her own lawyer.
Now in my understanding (I may be wrong) if we were married, we can dispose of our property together with one lawyer. The only reason she needs her own lawyer is because we are not married and not both listed as owners. I was told that this is to protect my (idiot) girlfriend because I could otherwise sell the house she presently lives in without her consent and leave her homeless.
I could probably wrap my mind around that if it were not for the fact that I also own a rental house. As it stands I can sell my rental house to someone without my tenant knowing, and leave her homeless in 30 days. The only difference is the relationship. God help us all if tenants suddenly have property rights to the rooms they rent. But that is essentially what I was told. And this is such an important matter that my GF is not allowed to waive her right to counsel and make up her mind on her own. She HAS TO hire her own lawyer to endorse a deal that is clearly in her financial interest.
Can someone PLEASE explain how this is at all logical???

I’d imagine, with the possible exception of Jack Layton, that Michael Ignatieff is the worst PM Canada’s never had! But how would the navel-gazing elites at Harvard ever be able to figure that out? If they want Ignatieff back, they’re welcome to him: take him, please.

    My Dear Bull:
This is very easy to explain. Men are scum that will hurt, abuse, take advantage of the women they love at every possible opportunity. While women are meek, weak and unable to think or do for themselves at any point in their dreary overburdened lives. /sarc.

  16. http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/politics/article/989721–walkom-but-what-does-layton-s-ndp-stand-for?bn=1
The Toronto “Red” Star, what a joke. Walkom is his usual self, writing an article about the NDP and swiping at the CPC at the end. Here is a bit of what the mind reader has to say:
But Harper also has something larger in mind. He wants to transform Canada into a different kind of society, where collective action through government is minimized, where markets rule and where individuals are given freer rein to accumulate as much as they can.
I don’t know how anyone can write this crap and get away with not being challenged with it, in public. Can he prove that the Prime Minister (also the lack of respect is telling) wants to do these things? I mean, I support the PM in this but how does Walkom know that it will happen, other then in his addled brain?

  17. Gee Black Mamba, that is hilarious, where do you go to find all this fun, or do you follow cartoons as a habit? As I recall you were first to condemn the fact that Edward Kennedy received a Catholic funeral attended by a Cardinal. Like that is any of your business. My feelings were similar to yours, but I leave those decisions to the Church. Wonder if Hitchens will receive full Jewish obsequies when the time comes? More importanttly, will he care?

  18. Good point minuteman.
    Free enterprise, what a concept.
And Dwayne…Ollie and Fifer at CTV are continually telling us what ‘Harper’ thinks, plans, worries about and stresses over.
Never challenged, not accountable for their rants.
They try to tell us the PPG is shunned, but then they rant on as tho they share his bedroom with Laureen.
Maybe Walkom is intimate with Fifer and Ollie too.

  21. Bull — that’s so outrageous. Maybe there is a human rights angle you can work on — bullying by the legal system or something.

  22. EBD, I read the article by Hitchens just a few days ago. Though I disagree, vehemently, with his views about the Church and Mother Teresa, I love his articulateness and chutzpah. What a loss, first his health, then his voice, soon, barring a miracle, his life.
When my dad died a number of years ago, I was surprised by how much I missed hearing his voice. It was a booming (and an eccentric) one and I still miss it.

  23. larben – according to that logic I’d have to convert to Islam to have an opinion about whether suicide bombers should be honoured as martyrs and offered an afterlifetime of free s*x; or maybe I wouldn’t be allowed even then. Anyway I have opinions about anything I want; I have no intention of deleting the ones someone tells me I’m not supposed to have. I do watch South Park; I binge every time a season comes out on DVD because it’s pretty much the only thing worth watching.
And Hitchens isn’t Jewish for purposes of “obsequies”, although he’s known his mother was, (if she was, his brother isn’t so sure) since 1987. Apparently, Hitch is an atheist. I’m as surprised as you are.
batb – my father also had a booming voice, and years after he died I was actually reduced to tears by hearing someone with a similar accent and regional idiom. And I didn’t even like my father very much.

  24. It doesn’t much concern me that Hitchens is an atheist or that he trashed Mother Teresa. I expect that she would not have cared much. He seems okay in his atheist skin and she seemed okay in hers–each authentic in their own way.
The article linked to by EBD had nothing to do with Mother Teresa or atheists. It provided the views of a man poised on the threshold of the great leap–however you define it–who is faced with yet another of those erosive losses before the final one. Sometimes you die by degrees and each loss is mourned. I have a voice problem and it cost me a lot. So much of your personality is invested in your personal instrument–as others have mentioned. (Fathers with large voices.) So the article was particularly meaningful to me because Mr. Hitchens, whatever he may or may not be, is a good writer and a perceptive and courageous one.

What the h*ll do they know about Canada? About as precious bloody little as they know of the real America, lookout.
This reaction by those Harvard poobahs reflects their same reaction when they consider non-lefty, non-worshipful Americans. “How can they be so stupid as to reject us or our wisdom?” It’s just another manifestation of Western neo-liberal self-satisfied, know-nothing, condescending arrogance. The same set of attitudes is interchangeable with the bulk of the MSM of our two countries, as it apparently is with the MSM and political “progressive” grandees of the other Anglophone or Western nations.

  26. I do not think if any Muslim write any ethical artical book get more than $20
If you do not believe me we will try as of today

  27. @ rita: “It doesn’t much concern me that Hitchens is an atheist . . .” This bothers me not at all.
“. . . or that he trashed Mother Teresa”. This does bother me, not because it would bother Mother Teresa—not at all, I believe—but because CH’s character assassination of Mother Teresa was mean-spirited and, I believe, untrue. It’s Hitchens’s right to say what he likes, but it doesn’t mean it enhances his reputation.
That said, CH is an entertaining and engaging writer. He’s usually well worth the read and I’m truly sorry about his cancer. He seems to be bearing this trial with courage and grace. God bless him.

  28. re: “But Harper also has something larger in mind. He wants to transform Canada into a different kind of society, where collective action through government is minimized, where markets rule and where individuals are given freer rein to accumulate as much as they can.”
I certainly hope so! That’s as good an explanation as any as to why I voted for him. When individuals have free rein to accumulate as much as they can, the standard of living tends to increase.
