Via the Virginian;
But now that President Obama has decided that it’s time to officially condemn Qaddafi, the message has been sent like the Bat Signal to everyday fashionable Gen X, Gen Y and Millennial liberals — hipsters, SWPL, single city girls, college students, Bikhram yoga instructors, NYT readers, AOLHuffington Post readers, DJ’s, bartenders, news reporters, advertising executives, entertainment professionals, etc. — that Quaddafi is a BAD GUY. If President Obama says you’re bad, then you’re bad. And now that the President has decided it’s time to call Qaddafi bad, everybody knows that Qaddafi is indeed bad. You know, like Mubarak and the Governor of Wisconsin.
So it’s a little harsh to rake Nelly Furtado over the coals for being a hypocrite. She’s probably very sincerely trying to do the right thing. She just lives in a world in which Left Wing and low-information liberal narratives are the rule. And in that world, al-Qaddafi (like Hosni Mubarak) only recently became a villain.

Is there no one Obama will not sell out?
Hisbadasself?
And the sheeple keep on being sheep.
BAAAAAAAAAAAA
“It’s a little harsh to rake Nelly Furtado over the coals for being a hypocrite. She’s probably very sincerely trying to do the right thing. She just lives in a world in which Left Wing and low-information liberal narratives are the rule…”
Yes. I’ve gotten to the point where I neither blame “artists” — actors, musicians — for their belief in a fictitious world-to-come, nor put any credence or weight behind their views. In each case, their work consists of constructing a fictitious world; actors spend their working lives pretending to be a fictional character; their life’s work entails repeating lines written by writers of fiction. Musicians, similarly, are completely invested in creating a fantasy world within a song; that’s where they live, 24/7, that’s were they create, and that’s where they’re spiritually invested.
The problem is that too many people who (presumably) live in the real world give a rat’s ass about the political opinions of Sting, and Tim Robbins, and Paul McCartney, and Nelly Furtado, etc.
(Btw, thanks, Kate, for the link to Moneyrunner – another one of those solid, like-minded, bookmark-worthy blogs I would otherwise never have heard of.)

Like I told the young fellers…none of you boys have had the misfortune of getting a job that starts with “play”.
So get the f@#k to work.
Why are they giving the money back? I mean he’s just going to use it to pad out his slush fund for when he bugs out.
Or use it to buy more ammo to help slaughter protesters.
If you want to give it to a different charity, sure, but don’t give it back to him. Otherwise, the concert that you got paid for, behind a wall of corporate contracts and crass capitalism, now becomes a free concert. The kind you give to your friends, or to organizations you support, or to causes near and dear to your heart.
You really want to piss him off. Go buy bibles with it and have them shipped to Libya.
Of Liberal Iggy’s Liberal Ad$Scam MartinJr, “and the camels”, “and yes, fornicating.”
“*We are friends not just because he is the prime minister of Canada, but because we shall always be friends even if he is not the prime minister, “added Gadhafi.””
“**Jet-lagged and culture shocked, we giggled in spite of ourselves as we closed in on the tent. There, in a dimly-lit and incense-clouded corner, was the man of the hour, resplendent in robes and his trademark hat. He was shaking hands with our pale-faced Canadian leader.”

“**My moment with Moammar
As we sprinted across Moammar Gadhafi’s front lawn, we had to swerve to avoid the camels.
It was a bizarre obstacle course: dozens of the ungainly creatures, sitting, standing, and yes, fornicating.
It was December, 2004. Our media bus holding a dozen journalists, cameramen and photographers had been delayed after taking a wrong turn on the way in from the Tripoli Airport. Then-prime minister Paul Martin was already in the Bedouin tent inside the compound that the Libyan leader still calls home. If we didn’t hustle, we’d miss the one photo-op: a brief handshake.
As we jumped off the bus, Alphee Moreau, the PMO’s advance man at the time, shouted: “Run! Run! Be careful, the camels are dangerous!”

“*Martin’s Libya trip welcomed by Canadian business”
“The prime minister also met with Canadian business leaders looking for contract work in Libya and joined Montreal-based SNC Lavalin in celebrating a potential $1-billion deal for further work on the Great Man Made River project.
The project will divert water from desert wells in southern Libya to northern coastal cities.”
“The prime minister raised specific human rights cases with Gadhafi, but the particulars were discussed later in the day between Foreign Affairs Minister Pierre Pettigrew and Libyan Prime Minister Shukri Muhammed Ghanem.”
“”I send my regards and compliments to the Canadian people and congratulate them for the progress they have achieved so far,” Gadhafi told Martin. “I congratulate them on the democracy that is exercised by all ethnic groups.”
“On a personal level, we have gained quite a personal friendship. We are friends not just because he is the prime minister of Canada, but because we shall always be friends even if he is not the prime minister, “added Gadhafi.”

“If President Obama says you’re bad, then you’re bad.”
Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia!
I was just noting the change in Western view of the Arab dictors myself.
I have always wondered how long people could be governed by a kingdom or emirate that has legislative and executive power. This form of government is inconsistent with progress because progress requires change and the rulers by divine right are not going to change on the important matters. As the world passes them by, the local people begin to revolt.
I also wondered how long it would take for the Western population to question how you can have a nation that is run by a royal family being treated on an equal footing with a representative democracy or something that purports to be a democracy and recognize the people’s involvement. It seems that that time has come.
Expect the esteem with which these nations are held to be reassessed and repositioned in the view of the MSM and ultimately the sheeple.
Must be confusing to be a liberal eh? If Bush says MooMoo Qadaffy is bad, its ok to do a concert for MooMoo. If Barry says MooMoo is bad, you have to give the MooMooMoney away.
What changed there, exactly? MooMoo is the same guy still doing the same stuff. That’s some confusing sh1t.
No wonder people like Charlie Sheen go off the deep end.
Celebrities are just stupid. End of story.
This wouldn’t be the first time a politician of ANY stripe dragged his feet. The sudden disgust with Gaddafi is matched by the extreme disinterest in Iran or North Korea.
Nelly can be forgiven for her air-headed discovery on things not related to fluking into fame and fortune through “some” popular musical talent. What’s Obama’s excuse?
“I’m still waiting for Obamba to buy me that new house”.
Barry, Barry, Barry. Has Barry done anything relevant to date in office? Besides “winning” the Affirmative Action Nobel Joke Prize 30 days into office of course……
