Very standoffish behaviour, IMO:
“The men from Sweden currently being held in Copenhagen on suspicions of planning a terror attack against the Jyllands-Posten newspaper planned on slitting the journalists’ throats, police wiretaps reveal.”
(…)
“In a joint prayer, one of the men said, ‘When the unfaithful are gathered, tie them up and cut their throats.’
“Their goal was to shoot and kill as many as possible in a 20-minute time span. Following the prayer, the left the flat, but were then arrested by police. During a search of the premises, PET found automatic weapons, silencers, and heavy duty tape.”
Matt has kindly uploaded this video from Michael Coren’s show.
I didn’t appreciate Tarek Fatah’s comment @11:15 that “[the Egyptian people] are not as dumb as The Tea Party” but Coren had a gem earlier in the show: “There are many people on Canadian TV who actually still broadcast WHILE IN a coma!” Absolutely brilliant!
Why is it that when a snow storm hits Manitoba or New Brunswick, it gets a couple minutes on the local news, but when Toronto gets one, it is “Snowmageddon”!!!
Hmmm?
EBD, Aguardiente is liquid licorice poison, it is beyond me how they drink it… that’s near Medellín, and the best coffee in the world. (Colombia)
Did anyone else get someone supposedly doing a telephone survey for the federal government asking all sorts of questions about the economy. What should be the top issue for the government? How do you rate the state of the American economy, the Canadian economy. Do you think inflation will go up in the next six months? Has stimulus spending helped the economy? What would help the economy (strongly disagree to strongly agree with 1 as strongly disagree), then a list of things such as unemployment insurance increases and job training; infrastructure such as roads and bridges;cutting personal taxes, etc., etc.
I think if it was legit I skewed the survey because I think the number one priority should be national security (especially the war against terrorism). They didn’t ask me if we should use grovernment money for such surveys….
Just a thought:
If 4 million people marched to Washington, demanding President Obama and his cronies step down,do you think he would?

Nicola It is probably election polling to test issues. It’s paid for by the party conducting the poll. Which means we only pay about 80% in the end.
I’ve noticed very few, if any, women jump in front of enraged bulls.
Just received a phone call from ‘Jack Layton’, I believe it was his recorded voice, saying hello there it is Jack Layton here I am interested in your opinion and if you stay on the line you will be connected with a town hall meeting where you can express your opinion.
I hung up as I don’t think he would be interested in hearing what an ass I think he is.
This is how the NDP conduct their democracy instead of getting out and meeting with the grassroots.

Lawyers for Obamacare Speak Out
From the desk of D. Mephistopheles, Attorney-at-Law:
To: President B. Hussein Obama
Dear President Obama,
Well, I must admit, we did not see this one coming. Granted, my firm has been around for eons, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we can see the future. The other side generally reserves that privilege for himself, which is typical as he refuses to play fair when fighting against us. But enough complaining, we’ll just have to soldier on and make this work.
First of all, look on the less dark side. Okay, so one judge in one court said “no” to your great plan. So what? It’s not like we’ve never had to ignore a judge before. Remember Andrew Jackson and the Cherokee people? As I recall, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Cherokees, and they still got marched away on the Trail of Tears (a personal favorite of mine in your nation’s history). Do you understand what I’m saying here? Jackson ignored the Court and is still hailed as a great man in your country to this day. Why can’t you have the same legacy?
Now, as to all these nabobs nattering negatively at you about “freedom”. It’s time to remind them that “freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose”. Of all the quotes that came out of the hippies, that has to be one of my all-time top-ten favorites. Remind people that they can have their freedom, but it will come at the expense of having access to doctors and medicine. While this may not be strictly true in all cases, it will be true enough in a few scattered cases that you can find some poor slob to go on TV with you begging for health care to get his ingrown hemorrhoids removed. Remember, it’s all about appearances. If enough of your populace that’s mind-numbed by eighteen hours a day of Springer sees one of their own crying that he’ll happily give up his freedom for a free refill of his percocet, the rest of them will join in quickly enough. After all, if it’s on TV then they’ll always believe it’s real.
I also believe it’s important that we make an example of this judge right away. I suggest you get in touch with Bill Ayers on this one. Look, after what happened in November, it’s time for the gloves to come off, okay? If you want to be the Man, you have to beat the Man. Look at Putin, Chavez, Mugabe, Jintao, Castro and the rest of your heroes. Do you see ANY of these REAL MEN sitting around waiting for a judge to give them permission on what to do? Then quit crying in the ladies’ room and man up. It’s time to let the people know who’s in charge.
Speaking of which, you really should have put that civilian security force you promised in place already. They’d be a big help right about now. I suppose you could use the TSA, but having gotten an up close look at those folks I really don’t think they’re going to be up to the task. Maybe you could use the funds still floating around in your stimulus slush fund to send a bunch of SEIU guys off for training for a few weeks. Just a thought. Whatever you do, just do something. Some of my lower downs in the firm are beginning to get a feeling that you are not really in control. Believe me, you do NOT want them to smell weakness coming from you. Once that happens they’ll call in your contract faster than you can say “human flesh roasting on an open fire”.
Just as a final note I have to ask whether all this would really be happening without that blasted Tea-Bagger movement harassing you all the time? And if not, would those Tea-Baggers be able to harangue you without the open airwaves for radio and a free internet? And if not, then why hasn’t your man Holder done something about the FCC and the Fairness Doctrine already? Sounds to me like you’ve got your New Year’s Resolution right there. Only I wouldn’t wait to then if I was in your shoes. Time to get to work Barry, before you have to answer to MY boss.
Be seeing you soon,
D. Mephistopheles, Attorney-at-Law

Yep. I got the same survey.
An hour later I also got a recorded survey asking me about the current crop of Alberta leaders.
“Press one for Morton” etc. etc.
I hung up on that one.
There seem to be elections in the air.

Atlantic Jim. Having two feet of snow is not that big a deal when you live in a jurisdiction where there are less than a million people live in an area the size of western Europe. When you have 6 million people jammed into a city that has twelve lanes of highway that barely move at the best of time, throwing in a foot of snow is a bit more of a complication. Add to that a population that has more experience driving camels and water buffalo than cars, and you have a recipe for disaster.

“From Meccania To Atlantis – Part 16: Exodus 1: Reality for Radicals”
“As each level of fiction collapses before the onslaught of offended Reality, many more levels of lies remain. The massive foundation of social, economic, cultural, biological, political and geopolitical illusions on which the modern Western state perches as though on a layer of sweet and airy meringue is already so pitted and fissured that all but diehard Snatchers perceive it. Alas, frank public debate of the underlying phantom crossbars is proscribed by Snatcher laws and speech codes. Moreover, the majority of the population is hostile to such debate, for it’s guy-wired by Pod mental chipsets implanted by the state’s compulsory education and remotely controlled by all other major social institutions nonstop for the last 45 years.
Unlike in the financial area, social and martial crashes are still avoidable in theory, but will not be avoided because the ruling elites refuse to discern their true causes and the majorities that vote them in are too far-gone to change that. In the decohered Inverse Reality foisted on the West by its ruling class, nothing can make sense or is ever predictable. It’s all a series of random events while we, free of the burden of facts and their patterns, can proceed gloriously toward a vision of ever more perfect Justice, Equality and Peace.
When a Pakistani U.S. citizen whom it was sheer lunacy to let into the country and naturalize in the first place is caught after trying to pulverize the Saturday night crowd at Times Square, AP’s syndicated headline reads, “NY car bomb suspect cooperates, but motive mystery.” After all, Faisal Shahzad was just another Man in a Grey Flannel Suit Connecticut commuter, was he not?”

minuteman, good post re media spotlight on Toronto blizzards and Toronto drivers.
Add to your observations that most TO drivers don’t have snow tires and don’t slow down despite 20 cms of snow and that’s a prescription for disaster. I ain’t takin’ my car out today. I do have snow tires and I do slow down in snow, but I don’t want to risk an accident with some twit that doesn’t.

Fighting bulls are fairly intelligent, and quick to learn. The great advantage which the bullfighter has over the bull
is that the bull initially hasn’t a clue what is going on. But they figure it out, which is why a bull is never allowed to fight twice.
I once saw Jose Thomas, a pretty good bullfighter, take on a good bull.
Thomas was doing his thing with the cape, when the bull stopped and gave him a penetrating look.
The bull clearly thought, “I know what you are up to”. Half a second later a badly gored Thomas was flying through the air.
Here’s hoping he wins this year:

As for tips, I haven’t seen any mention here at SDA of the recent decision by the CRTC to approve Usage Based Billing for internet services. Guaranteed to hike rates and lower availability, of course.
Tony Clement is reviewing it, and the Libs have already said they’re opposed to it. Good for the Libs (something I very rarely say).

Opposition is beginning to be heard. Maybe SDA readers need to get in on the act.
Doug, I fail to see why I should subsidize you and others downloading pr0n or pirated video games via a bit torrent. Flat rates mean exactly that.

I have no idea of what my internet usage is so I can’t get too upset about the unforseen.
I’m on Gord’s side but I too watch some TV shows and documentaries on YouTube.
I either watch less or pay more is worst case scenario.
The CBC story on the CRTC Internet decision is void of facts or analysis. It is no more than an advertisement to sign the petition. But surprise surprise Ignatief and the Liberals immediately jump on board in their attempt at populist politics.
However today the National Post story has the facts and adult analysis, something foreign to the CBC and the Liberals. Basically, it costs money to build the system to move internet data so those that use more should pays more. Duh.
Here is the link to the NP story on the CRTC.

Here’s another story about our HRCs. Apparently, a Muslim woman (recent grad of York), was fired from her job after six weeks…and claimed discrimination.
The HRC awarded her $36,000 (??) and tried to seize the home of the defendant (a black woman).
http://www.thestar.com/news/article/931807–superior-court-rules-ontario-human-rights-tribunal-hearing-was-unfair
“The October 2009 decision ordered Telfer to pay $36,000 to a woman who had been her employee for six weeks. Lawyers wanted the sheriff to seize and sell Telfer’s home to collect the money.
The woman who lodged the complaint, Seema Saadi, told the tribunal she felt pressured to wear skirts and heels instead of her hijab. Saadi also said Telfer complained about the smell of food that she warmed in the microwave.”
So, this is Canada?
Hey Kate, do we get a Super Bowl thread this week?
