  1. I wouldn’t worry about Mubarak, he is getting advice from Pelosi. There will be no getting him out of there now.

  2. Don’t the Egyptians get to decide what form of government they want. Granted when things change there is a good chance they don’t get what they wanted from this ouster but is it really not up to them.
We then get to decide if we want to formally recognize the new government or not and what kind of a relationship we wish to have.

  3. Doesn’t this site often criticize governments for getting too involved in directing the lives of it’s citizens?
So it’s horrible if a government tries to intrude on the life of a North American, but it’s perfectly acceptable to do so to an Egyptian?
If the Egyptians want the Muslim Brotherhood as part of their government, then they should have every right to do so.
It may not be the best outcome for the US or Canada, but it’s not our decision to make. Ultimately, we can choose not to recognize the government if we consider it illegitimate.

  4. Never attribute to malice what can adequately be explained by incompetence. I’ve been saying that to myself a lot since January 20, 2009.

Oh comon Puck, the US has been bankrolling Eygpt for over 40 years, I say we have the right to decide who gets control of the $200 Billion in US military equipment over there. Don’t you think ?

You’re assuming the average Egyptian citizen is going to have something to say about how the government is formed and what it does. If that were the case then yes, it would be very bad for the USA to go in and make up new rules.
But there is every indication that Egyptians generally are going to have no say in the outcome whatsoever. It will all be arranged by Iran and the Saudis, and the Egyptians will continue to suffer under the heel of a tyrant. different face on the posters is all.
Furthermore puck, what are you going to do if what the Egyptian people want is you and me dead in a nice world-wide nuclear war? Would it be worth throwing a wrench in those gears, or should we just die with our noble principles intact?

  7. Watch Pakistan.
How is the economy there? are they desperate enough to start selling their nuclear bombs yet? Saudi Arabia sees “the troubles” brewing in Egypt, and the rise of Iranian regional militancy, will they buy from Pakistan? Debka said some days past that they would. After all, who would even notice a few containers of “machinery” moving with all the chaos?

  8. Obama ignored a democratic uprising in Iran because its already governed by a radical Islamic theocracy.
Obama engaged a similar uprising in Egypt because its not yet a radical Islamic Theocracy.

  9. The Phantom @ 12:45, exactly.
If all these events in Lebanon, Tunisia, Egypt and possibly now Jordan, Algeria, Syria go the wrong way and historical precedent suggests they will, we are in deep water with one paddle. The other paddle is being held by the 5th column left in the west that is trying to beat us down for their agenda.

  10. The regular Egyptian will have no say in the future of Egypt if Mubarak steps aside. After the fall of Russia, Mubarak had to depend on America to retain power. America used him as a stablizing function in the ME. He was a controllable pawn that prevented the Arab world from obliterating Isreal, much as the Shah had been before his overthrow. If Mubarak goes another ME country will follow suit within twelve months and then watch the house of cards collapse. Hold onto your hat folks because with the ‘O’ in office we could be in for one hell of a ride. The ‘free and open’ elections that the leaders of the West are calling for are nothing more than a pipe dream to try and keep a lid on the real situation, and the Muslim Brotherhood are banking on that. Tunisia and Egypt are nothing more than a repeat of the Sudetenland and Munich salvos. The only difference is that then the conquest was based on a political ideology and now it will be a religous one. Any bets on which one will in the end be considered more bloodthirsty?

  11. On CTV this mornen some dude refered to the Muslim Brotherhood as a “Social justice movement” freaken hell Hamas and Hezbollia are mere links in the MB chain. Of course the media never challenges the Islmaofacists’ apologist NEVER.

  12. Narcissists O* & I*.
“SO THERE we have it. The US policy towards Egypt is dictated by the irrational narcissism of two opposing sides to a policy debate that has nothing to do with reality.”
    O* & I* = O’Harvard buddies = ObamIggy.
    Leftists = allies/buddies of Mohammedanism.

    “Our World: Clueless in Washington”
“Does the US fail to understand what will happen to its strategic interests in the region if the Muslim Brotherhood is the power behind the throne of the next regime?”
“The Egyptian multitudes on the streets of Cairo are a stunning sight. With their banners calling for freedom and an end to the reign of President Hosni Mubarak the story these images tell is a simple one as old as time.
On the one hand we have the young, dispossessed and weak protesters. And on the other we have the old, corrupt and tyrannical Mubarak. Hans Christian Andersen taught us who to support when we were wee tots.
But does his wisdom apply in this case?”

  13. Puck, the biggest problem in the Middle East is that there are no healthy alternatives for the Egyptians to choose. It’s either the dictator Mubarak or the dictators in the Muslim Brotherhood. That’s no choice at all.
Obama is a fool. That can’t be said enough.

  14. General (ret.) Barry McCaffrey has a good short article over at Michael Yon’s site:

“Egypt is a few steps short of a disaster. The corrupt, incompetent regime will not survive.

Most likely outcome— the Generals take charge, announce a reform government, start the process of responding to the injustice and despair of the common citizen. Then the situation staggers along for some period.

Worst outcome the Generals stand with the same gang that has looted the nation— probably minus Mubarak. Then there is a possible civil war with the soldiers in many cases siding with the people not their officers. The only organized opposition is the Muslim Brotherhood which could then possibly gain power.

  15. “Don’t the Egyptians get to decide what form of government they want. Granted when things change there is a good chance they don’t get what they wanted from this ouster but is it really not up to them.”
    At what cost?
Do we not step in when we are aware of child abuse?
Do not confuse ‘democracy’ with stealth totalitarianism under the guise of democracy.
Also, a country and its people’s right to self determination only goes as far as the line which it will interfere with the rights and lives of it’s neighbors. This notion that we must support democracy at all costs is naive. First and foremost our priorities should be the welfare of the Egyptian people and others in the region that will be effected. There DOES need to be democratic reform in Egypt, but this is not the way! Not at the behest of foreign totalitarian powers that would bribe unsuspecting voters into selling their futures away for a cheap loaf of bread today.

I’m very impressed with the discussion on Right-wing blogs on this issue. There seems to be a 60-40 split in opinion with 60% seeming to want to let things play-out. Conversely, it is nearly unanimous on the Left that agree with the 60% of conservatives(which I alluded to yesterday). What separates us (the Right) from them (the Left) is the civility (yeah I said “civility”) of the conversation on the Right. This is an interesting juxtapose if you consider the consequences on the Left for stepping away from the official Leftist dogma (see Juan Williams). Very Good! Now carry-on.
    BTW, ET
I will try an take time to respond to your rebuttal of my point on yesterday’s thread. I’ll post it here (if I can) for convenience.

  16. The well deserved inferiority complex of Arab Muslims is an easy energy to tap into. The MB has been doing it for many generations. The retrograde nature of Islam in the Arab world makes the use of the word “democracy” nothing but an MSM (multicultural) soundbite of distraction. Islam is the real oppressor no matter who is in “charge” or how he ascends to power. Foreign entities have been enabling, manipulating, protecting, developing, exploiting, and fighting the basket cases of the ME since the colonial era. We now are witnessing an unusual vacuum of foreign strength and manipulation. Obama is likely as ambivalent with a theocratic Egypt as he is with a nuclearized Iran.
This will lead to another ME war which may involve nukes. There is no further appetite in the West for intervention (the US is broke), particularly after the Iraq and Afghanistan missions, which I believe, history will prove to be of little value. The real enemies in the West are the domestic greens and their “progressive” statist proxies who prevent domestic energy development, forcing the necessity to deal with the Islamists of the ME (paying for both sides of the so-called war on terrorism). The other enemies are the progressives draped in the Civilizational destroyer of multiculturalism.
The US can’t afford nor should it try to occupy or control half the globe. I would bring all the troops home from the ME and Europe, leaving the Germans to play footsie with the Russians at their peril. I would arm Japan, South Korea and Taiwan with nukes and bring those troops home as well. I would consider a two week arial campaign taking out all high value strategic, minimal collateral civilian targets in Iran before I left thereby buying some time in the ME and allowing the Strait of Hormuz to be kept open for a few more years while domestic energy is developed. Since I can’t/wouldn’t run for President we will have to wait two more years until America actually has one to see what will transpire in terms of decisive action.

  17. Obama ‘s religion is about himself. Though he made it plain in his own writings if it came to Islam or America, Islam would be his horse to back.
He was raised in the Muslim milieu, the belly of the Ummah. Thats the womb in which he was formed.
Is it any wonder lies fall from his voice like rain in the monsoon season. Taqiyya is the core of his soul. Deceptiona are the tools his form of change.

  18. It seems and confirmed by Wikileaks that the Saudi’s in reality have no fear of Israel and are totally indifferent to the Palistinians. However the Saudi’s are concerned, bigtime, about Iran.
There are confirmed reports that the Saudi’s have built/are building deep bunkers.
This is an unconfirmed scuttlebutt that the Saudi’s have for some time gained possession of nukes and the means of intermediate delivery…likely aircraft.
    This is only logical…..

  19. One is gullible and naive if they believe that if there can ever be a true and free democratic election in Egypt, it will be rigged by the Muslim Brotherhood – it will be a repeat of what occurred in Iran in 2009.
I do not see how anyone can seriously believe that a radical extremist Islamic group like the Muslim Brotherhood, who think nothing of beheading their own countrymen and murdering their own wives and daughters, would all of a sudden have a pang of conscience and respect an election and not cheat.
When it comes to radical Islam, they insure they get their way period and are willing to do absolutely anything, including killing themselves, to ensure that Islam rules the world – rigging or falsifying an election is no problem for them and they know darn well the free world will stand back and do nothing despite the majority of the population not wanting to come under tyrannical Sharia law.

  20. This is probably the Jimmy Carter moment that we’ve been waiting for — only his came in April 1980 with the botched rescue mission, and led to his electoral defeat.
We have a lot more than 44 hostages this time, whatever the population of Israel plus westerners living in the Middle East.
This won’t end well, the only question is, how bad will it get? It could get big-time bad.
Obama was a disaster waiting to happen. The next move could be that disaster.

  21. “Now is the time at SDA when we can’t figure out where they get such ideas!”
Actually, we’ve known all along exactly where they get such ideas.
