Seattle shocker!

Early January. Late afternoon. Blue skies. Must be climate change.
Oh yes. The worst record in the playoffs ever 7-9 Seahawks have just defeated last year’s Superbowl champion New Orleans Saints. Marshawn Lynch sealed the deal, as it were, with one of the best long runs I’ve ever seen.
Update (via Speedy in comments): The run:

  1. Hubby has three Sports Select tickets where he took Seattle, he just had a “feeling” and bet them. We will see if the other teams on his tickets come through. If one comes through it will win over $1200.

  2. Got to love the underdog. One of my fav Grey Cups is the 6-10 or 7-9 Ottawa Rough Riders played the 14-1-1 Eskimos. Lead by the future republican Congressmen JC Watts had the Warren Moon Eskis down 20-1 at half time. Ended up losing 25-23 I do believe. Was 1981 I think.

  3. The sea hags are like the canucks– don’t get your hopes up until they have won it all. Both teams seem to find a way to disappoint.
That being said, this has got to rank up there with the biggest upset ever. Marshawn lynch will be forever associated with “the run”.

  4. Would’nt you like to be the bug on the wall in N.O. dressing room. 7 broken tackles, oh that’s not good.
    Great run and huge upset.

  5. I called it! Any given Sunday, baby (or Saturday in this case)! I also called the Jets win too! Somewhere in this cold blizzardy ice cube called Calgary there’s a depressed Geologist looking at his burnt-up playoff pool chances saying “I shoulda listened to an Engineer for once…”. It’s never too late to learn that lesson.

  7. Oh, the pain of being a Buffalo Bills fan. It’s almost as bad as being a Leafs fan.
Playoff winner Seattle Seahawks’ Marshawn Lynch? Used to be an RB for the Bills. Now? Not.
Playoff winner Baltimore Ravens’ Willis McGahey? Used to be an RB for the Bills. Now? Not.
This year’s Bills’ backs? CJ Spiller – rookie, some promise. (IIRC, the same was said of Lynch and McGahey.) Fred Jackson – manful effort, but not enough talent.
Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t what you got ’till it’s gone?

  8. Wow did the Saints ever put the turd in Wildcard SaTURDay. I counted 8 different defenders who got a hand on Lynch. That has to be some sort of record. Incredible blocking too… wow.

  9. KB my condolances.
But, it’s my view that you must build that team from the inside out. Whether its’ Lynch, Mcgahee or Spiller you will have no success until the two lines, LBs and QB situation is resolved. As you can see in Detroit, talent at the skilled positions is often wasted when the middle isn’t successful; but, drafting skilled players and trading for guys like Owens is often a short term fix when speaking about the bottom line.
    BTW, that stiff-are was AWESOME!
