Reader Tips

In the interest of keeping it light – both because it’s Saturday night, and because some people might be recovering from last night’s festivities – here’s a short video – it’s physical comedy, of a sort – that graphically illustrates the ridiculous gap in foot speed between an average Joe and some NFL football players. Cracks me up every time.

  1. I’ve just found the Canadian story that wins “Lamest Excuse of the Year So Far” award:
    http://toronto.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20110101/teenage-student-deported-110101/20110101
I’ve lived in Mexico City for a year. The people there aren’t really that much different from Canadians. The notion that this teenager thinks he should be able to stay in Canada because his sister is gay and he is going to suffer abuse is PREPOSTEROUS!!!
Kudos on Jason Kenney and the Federal Government for having a backbone!

  2. Wrt Katie Couric, how what about Anti Common Sense Bigotry?! She’s a HUGE perpetrator of the War Against Common Sense and I, for one, am insulted everytime she opens her pie hole!!

  3. AGW Progress Report:
“December was the coldest since records have been kept by a mile ( see attached chart of new and old records ). Meteorologically speaking,”.

    http://www.wtsp.com/genthumb/genthumb.ashx?e=3&h=240&w=320&i=/assetpool/images/110101095205_AO.jpg
“Last winter was the coldest on record for most locations in the area and was followed by one of the hottest summers on record.
Fall featured a top ten driest October and the hurricane season was tied for the second busiest in 40 years even though not a single hurricane made landfall in the United States.
After a normal November for temperatures, the pattern abruptly shifted to a similar pattern seen last winter where cold arctic and polar air surged south into the eastern United States, all the way down across Florida.
December was the coldest since records have been kept by a mile ( see attached chart of new and old records ). Meteorologically speaking, it’s entirely possible we may never see another year like 2010 with so many all-time extremes in one 12-month span.”

  4. I don’t know why they are so concerned about being deported to Mexico. Can’t they just go to the US? It’s not like they have a border or anything.

  5. From Robert W ‘s link at 11:15pm…
“What moral authority does any person, bureaucracy or government have to determine where people can live? None! A state that exists due to the dispossession and killing of Indigenous communities has no moral power to control who lives within borders it calls its own.”
    ====
    Those people really are crackpots!
They insinuate …increased (non-white) immigration is the remedy conquered Indegenous Communities are seeking.!
    Crackpots I tell ya..!

  6. The Mexican kid was allegedly deported (the CBC calls him a “Toronto Teen”).
Jason Kenney, via a spokesman, came out with another classic:
“I realize Mr. Garcia’s immigration lawyers are unhappy with these decisions, but in Canada we let independent tribunals overseen by our courts determine who is and who is not a refugee; not immigration lawyers with a vested interest in the outcome of the case. If Mr. Garcia or anyone else wants to come to Canada, they should not, to use the Federal Court’s language, ‘show complete disregard for Canada’s immigration laws.'”

  8. Update: Liberal Iggy’s O’Harvard buddy vs “A brutal reckoning awaits, they say. ”
The natural end result of left-liberalism/socialism.
IggyLiberal faces his own “brutal reckoning”.
    Bring it on.

“Public Workers Facing Outrage as Budget Crises Grow”
“Ever since Marie Corfield’s confrontation with Gov. Chris Christie this fall over the state’s education cuts became a YouTube classic, she has received a stream of vituperative e-mails and Facebook postings.
“People I don’t even know are calling me horrible names,” said Ms. Corfield, an art teacher who had pleaded the case of struggling teachers. “The mantra is that the problem is the unions, the unions, the unions.”
Across the nation, a rising irritation with public employee unions is palpable, as a wounded economy has blown gaping holes in state, city and town budgets, and revealed that some public pension funds dangle perilously close to bankruptcy. In California, New York, Michigan and New Jersey, states where public unions wield much power and the culture historically tends to be pro-labor, even longtime liberal political leaders have demanded concessions — wage freezes, benefit cuts and tougher work rules.
It is an angry conversation. Union chiefs, who sometimes persuaded members to take pension sweeteners in lieu of raises, are loath to surrender ground. Taxpayers are split between those who want cuts and those who hope that rising tax receipts might bring easier choices.
And a growing cadre of political leaders and municipal finance experts argue that much of the edifice of municipal and state finance is jury-rigged and, without new revenue, perhaps unsustainable. Too many political leaders, they argue, acted too irresponsibly, failing to either raise taxes or cut spending.
A brutal reckoning awaits, they say. ”

  9. Socialist Quebec’s “brutal reckoning” is underway.
Here is the AGW/socialist “solution” : “Collection will alternate with recycling.”
    …-
“Refuse Collection in Gatineau Cut in Half
Gatineau residents are going to have to make a slight adjustment to their household routines.
Starting Monday, garbage will be picked up every two weeks.
A limit of six trash bags is being imposed.
    Collection will alternate with recycling.”

  10. We have had garbage collection every two weeks for years. I think we are allowed to put out 4 bags. My family of four rarely puts out more than one. We have “green bin” and “blue box pick up every week. Green bins aren’t a problem, except in the summer when you tend to have flies all over the place. The only other problem is if you miss a week, you end up going four weeks between garbage pick ups. In our town, the garbage crew on a truck is one guy. He drives and loads by himself. I hope he gets paid more than they used to when you saw two or even three on a truck, because they work really hard, and do a decent job.

  11. CTV’s Question Period aired the top ten political stories of 2010 this afternoon. The panel was Craig Oliver,Taber,Fife,Galloway, and Travers.

My tip is, don’t bother linking to it. Everything that PMSH and the conservatives did this year was wrong. Every decision was made to appease those fools who voted for him. You know, people like me,maybe you,and the other 5 million Canadians that gave him the overwhelming number of seats outside of Quebec.

    http://www.ctv.ca . You were warned.

  12. A mea culpa. I only watched the last 45 minutes of Question Period. I missed the first 3 political stories of the year.I did watch the final 7. Human smuggling, gun registry, census,Afghanistan, the number 1 story proragation,G20, and the UN security council,PMSH and the conservatives were trashed on each and every one.

    CBC must be envious.

  13. wallyj, the top stories in Canada’s year at the CBC are exactly that as well. All anti Conservatives, all the time. It’ll be interesting to see how SUN-Tv reports this in 2012…
(really, someone linked to a story there, ok?)
