In the pocket of the American rich;
Last week, Michael Ignatieff and 142 other Members of Parliament voted in favour of a motion to ban oil tanker traffic on the north coast of British Columbia. This week, Liberal MP Joyce Murray from Vancouver Quadra introduced Bill C-606 to put that motion into law by amending the Canada Shipping Act to prohibit oil tanker traffic on the north and central coast of British Columbia.

If marine conservation were really the issue, the ban wouldn’t be only for the north coast of British Columbia and U.S. foundations would be funding a tanker ban in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, California, on the Eastern Seaboard and in the Gulf of Mexico. But no, U.S. foundations are funding a tanker ban campaign only for the central and the north coast of British Columbia — right smack where oil tankers, export-bound for Asia would need to travel.
The day the House of Commons voted for the tanker ban, I was in Ottawa at the invitation of the Standing Committee on Natural Resources. On the basis of U.S. tax returns that I’ve analyzed on my own nickel — with additional data from Vancouver consultant Rob Scagel — I testified that since 2000, U.S. foundations have spent upward of $300-million on “conservation” initiatives and the so-called “reform” of resource-based industries in Canada. That $300-million sounds like a lot — and it is — but it is less than 3% of the $11.7-billion that U.S. foundations have spent since 2000 on environmental and wildlife protection.
[…]
Since 2004, U.S. foundations have granted $18-million specifically for “demarketing” Alberta oil. Demarketing is reducing demand or shifting demand away. The lion’s share of that $18-million went to the U.S. Tides Foundation ($7-million), Tides Canada ($2-million), the Pembina Foundation ($4-million) and Corporate Ethics International ($1.2-million).
Several U.S. foundations made grants that explicitly spell out over-reliance on fossil fuels as a matter of national security. By their own admission, protecting the environment isn’t their only concern.
The Rockefeller Brothers Fund granted $105,000 specifically to the First Nations at the Kitimat village, which is right at the mouth of the Douglas Channel. That’s precisely where export-bound oil tankers would need to load. That included $70,000 for an anniversary celebration in 2004 and $35,000 for a ceremonial event in 2006. Of all the aboriginal people in the world, why is the Rockefeller Brothers Fund giving money to the First Nations at Kitimat Village?
Read the whole thing, and then send it to your Member of Parliament.

What happended? Were all the editors at the NYT asleep? How could they let that article slip through? You never know, they might even begin to report how their great brown picininy, Hugo Chavez, actually rules by decree.
Send this article to my member of parlament? My MP (can’t say rep) is a foul mouth dipper name of Crowder. What a waste of electrons.
Tides Foundation ==> George Soros. Can you say global government? The amount of money this spooky dude puts into organizations/foundations and such that are hell bent on bringing the US economy to it’s knees is scary.
You can read all the source documents for Krause’s work here. Also if you browse around her site you will find that Suzuki and the Pembina institute are big regular recipients of funding from these US Charities that are working to control politics in Canada both Provincially and Federally. http://fairquestions.typepad.com/rethink_campaigns/36-organizations-paid-by-tides-excerpts-of-usa-tax-returns.html
Here you can read where the 9B in Tax Dollars stolen by Paul Martin and put into Liberal Trust Funds is being used for the same effect. If you read their Boards of Directors you will see many Liberal Hog Troughers on the payroll of the Liberal Trusts like Bob Rae etc all sucking up the Gravy Tax Dollars. Beyond the scruting of the Auditor General. http://www.primetimecrime.com/Recent/Investigative/20050228foundations.htm
When they say “eastern seaboard” does that include Newfoundland and Labrador? What will Danny Williams have to say about that? Even if oil extraction off the coast of Newfieland may not involve tankers (though I think it will) pipelines and other forms of transverse will be necessary and no less dangerous (as they would have us believe)
Send this article to my member of parliament?
I agree with Tony, my MP is a cheap imitation of Carrot Top, only red inside instead of on top.
He would accuse me of being bigoted and heartless, just like all who would deny our first nations people funding any..funding,
I should be ashamed of myself, he could never advocate on behalf of such beliefs.
My MP is a waste of skin.
My MP is Ralphy Goodale – even when I ask him a question (which any MP is obligated to answer) he never replies – big surprise.
Kinda like the CWB the ban will only apply for western Canada. I think all people of western Canada, because this ban will affect Sask, AB and BC. We all need to push for a complete ban on all tanker travel on all of the East Coast.
RFB, thanks for the primetimecrime connection.
It was always one of my favorites but I lost it when our power transformer blew out awhile back and partially fried my computors.
Lost some of my addresses and other minor stuff.
It is absolutely amazing how the crooked Liberal Party of Canada thinks it should help itself to hard earned tax dollars of others for entirely selfish, greedy reasons.
What’s so surprising? Iggy has steeped in the gene pool of the elite most his adult life.
Princton – Harvard – Yale = Aristocrats – Autocrats and Banks
My MP is CP and he’s useless as well. But I still emailed him. If emailing your MP is a waste of time then send it to Harper. If he gets a few hundred emails on this topic maybe – just maybe – the C
P will pay attention.
Excuses to do nothing never got anybody what they wanted.
These foundations are also funding the opposition to the embridge pipeline that will open up non USA markets for oil. They seem to want to choke off energy development in the west.
I just emailed my MP about this issue and also reiterated my previous comments to him about the CWB and privatizing the CBC.
This whole oil tanker ban thing smells like George Soros and Dr. Fruitfly. Not sure where M. Strong fits into this as he is obviously a China support.
EZRA LEVANT had a column in Sunday’s SUN on this:

If all the little reservations up the coast of BC advocate the end of oil tankers in their neighborhood, they better be prepared to freeze in the dark, because nearly every one of them depends on diesel fueled power generation. Exceptions that come to mind are the Hieltsuk, who currently get power from an obsolete and overaged hydro development at Ocean Falls, and the Kitimat band, who get power from those nasty folks at Rio Tinto Alcan. Funny how they are mentioned in the article.
It didn’t take a genius to work this one out “Cut off the West Coast and Alberta has only one option that is to send raw product to Montana where American Big Business will process and export around the world.” Liberals will profit with a new NEP when they get back into power after the dipsticks in Ontario and Quebec and the leftards on the Wet Coast vote for them on their “Conservation platform” Until Canadians start looking to the future we are forever destined to be “Hewers of wood and drawers of water (oil).”
Kakola, what is not mentioned in the article is that tankers with processed oil byproducts are exempt from the ban. Diesel will still be shipped in to these reserves.
Something else to think about in the unintended consequences is that wars have been started by nations when access to free markets have been denied.
You find a great deal of this with gun control too. Wendy Cukier’s list of donors makes for some interesting reading.
Davenport should read that, then maybe she’d have a neuron fire independently of the programming…
[…]
… nah. That couldn’t happen. Elvis crashing a UFO in the Reflecting Pool at DC with Marilyn Munroe riding shotgun is more likely. Femibots don’t have neurons.
Once again, our left wing politicians are happily and blissfully playing the role of useful idiot puppets, skillfully but easily manipulated so as to unwittingly advance the agendas puppeteers they don’t even know.
Simple English Translation
Iggy thinks Canadians on the East Coast and in Quebec and Ontario are smart enough to safely operate ships but British Columbians are too stupid to do it.
IGGY = BC’ers are Stupid.
thanks Iggy . . . . we always suspected you hated our guts.

Doug- You spelled PICANINNY incorrectly.
I know spell-check probably doesn’t recognize the word but for gosh sakes preview before posting.
it’s finally dawned on the liberal elite that they can’t but the West in it’s place by confiscating our resources. They do however, have the ability to block our access to global markets using federal laws. Dirty ba$tards.
My MP is the useless, lame-duck, trough-licking Prentice. ‘Nuff said. I got a form response about Climategate. I hardly think this would generate anything more.
We can only hope there will be no effort at enforcement.
It seems to me that many Liberal policies benefit the U.S. Perhaps I’m a bit of a conspiracy theorist but does it not benefit the Americans to have an anemic military north of the border? Does it not make access to our natural resources easier if Canadians can be disarmed easily through a gun registry? It seems behind every Liberal idea is an american cause. Don’t get me wrong…I’m not anti-american, it just seems to me that the Liberals (which many years ago were called the Reformers party in the 19th Century and advocated Canada joinuing the U.S.) may acctually have never strayed far from their roots. This latest “leader” they reached deep into the bowels of where many U.S. presidents have been formed. Anyhoo just pondering…
“It seems behind every Liberal idea is an american cause.”
Close. Behind every Liberal idea is American socialist money. Look up Tides Foundation some time, it’ll curl your hair. Also Canadian federal government money. See //phantomsoapbox.blogspot.com/2010/11/how-canadian-propaganda-system-works.html
In contrast, the NRA for example does not spend money in Canadian elections, as much as the Lefties would like us all to think so.
Interesting observation Phantom. I think it is fair to say that Iffy is indeed a neo-con. My experience in life is what a person accuses others of is usually an indication of the accusor. Or put another way, when you throw nud at others you usually get most on yourself. He wanted the U.S. to go to Iraq while at the CIA’s recruiting ground aka.Harvard. He was a hawk to put it mildly. He comes to Canada changes his tune to be so-called a lefty lib. Who owns this guy?

Great article! Living in Kitimat, I can see firsthand the almost psychotic, vitriolic response on the part of some with their rabid opposition to Enbridge.
Making a comment that we should look at all aspects of the project before making a decision actually puts you at risk. They are creating a climate of fear to discourage reasoned discussion.
Our MP, Nathan Cullen, has spent much time and energy travelling the region fomenting opposition to the project, so there would be little value in contacting him.
What’s especially embarrassing is that the US is now “leftier” than Canada.
Read the whole thing, and then send it to your Member of Parliament.
As well my MP is a Liberal Block vote lackey. So I sent the article to the two nearest EDA’s with CPC MP’s.
I hope everyone bothered to link to the articles I posted a few days ago, one by Kevin Libin of the NP.
And yes, George Soros is involved.
Vivian Krause needs to do more than a little research into Gyorgy Schwartz – George Soros, the Rockefeller Brothers Foundation, the Pew Charitable Trusts, etc. – before she reaches the conclusion they are acting as surrogates of US oil companies. That conclusion is laughable. ( i.e. Is that also why they finance demarketing Canadian forest products, as well? )
Soros and these other far-left foundations are waging a silent and successful war against all western societies, and the middle class of those societies.
In other news:
http://www.financialpost.com/news/okays+Mackenzie+Valley+pipeline+onus+Imperial/3989151/story.html
CALGARY — The National Energy Board approved plans to build the Mackenzie Valley natural gas pipeline Thursday, putting the fate of the project in the hands of Imperial Oil Ltd.
The 1,220-kilometre Arctic pipeline was first proposed more three decades ago and has been stuck in regulatory limbo since. The NEB’s decision on Thursday ruled on an application Imperial, which is controlled by Exxon Mobil Corp., filed in late 2005.
Calgary-based Imperial is the lead company in the consortium that includes ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips, Royal Dutch Shell PLC and the Aboriginal Pipeline Group.
The Northwest Territories, which expects a windfall of financial benefits, applauded the decision.
“The National Energy Board has given the Northwest Territories an early Christmas present today in issuing a positive decision regarding the Mackenzie Gas project,” Bob McLeod, minister of industry, tourism and investment for the Northwest Territories, said in a statement. “This is an important milestone for a project that could provide significant economic and environmental benefits for the Northwest Territories and for Canada.”

Tirador asks re: Iggy, “Who owns this guy?”
Somebody, that seems sure. It is, as you rightly point out, quite remarkable how completely Iggy has changed his spots since becoming a Liberal.
Also remarkable how Liberal policy runs almost perfectly counter to the interests of Canadian businesses and Canadians generally. A one to zero correlation that good can’t be accidental. IMHO, anyway.
Harper will fold just like he folded on the seat redistribution. And you will all still vote for him.
I find this “Black Ghost” style conspiracy thingy a little far-fetched. Ignatieff is dumb not sinister.
So British Columbia wants to join the rest of Canada and screw Alberta. Some one needs to point out to them that in a shooting war with Ottawa they are on the wrong side of Alberta. As far as the first nations go ……. fill in the blanks with what ever your imagination can come up with.
Remember the howls of derision and fake indignation from Liperal and InDeeper benches a few months back when a CSIS bigwig made the claim that certain MPs were influenced (wittingly or otherwise) by foreign intersts?
Texas Canuck at 12/16 10:30 AM summed it up. Canada is also a target.
I find it hard to believe that leftist environmental groups are operating in a manner favourable to American interests. These same groups prevent America from developing her own oil and energy resources causing a huge drain of wealth from the West to our enemies, Iran, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia. In 2008 America bled away 800 billion dollars buying foreign oil. They could change the whole geo-political situation in our favour by developing their own resources, their own jobs and stop supporting the West’s enemies. As much as the Machiavellian machinations here are a bit strange, I do support Canada selling energy to America as our preferred customer, just wish they would fix it so we are their only needed source of foreign oil. America wants a strong Canada, they are not going to invade us, that’s nutbar talk.
