The Isles of Scilly are a group of about 140 islands, five of them inhabited, that lie approximately 30 miles off the tip of Cornwall in England. Even though there are only 2,000 or so people on the islands, they manage to put together a very professional local news broadcast whose positive-minded, helpful, even-tempered, and matter-of-fact tone puts the perpetually outraged stealth-activist lemon-suckers at CBC to shame.     “13-year-old Cody Alicea rides with an American flag on the back of his bike. He says he does this to be patriotic and to honor veterans, like his own grandfather, Robert. He’s had the flag on his bike for two months but Monday, was told to take it down.

  3. The dispute over the US flag apparently arose when hispanic students brought the Mexican flag to school on ‘cinco de mayo’ – a Mexican holiday celebrating the Spanish victory over the French.
    But..ahh.. isn’t this school in the USA? And aren’t these children supposedly Americans, or, receiving the benefit of the American taxpayer? So, why is it OK to celebrate a Mexican flag but not the American flag? That’s what cultural relativism does – it focuses on all ‘the others’ and insists that you hide ‘yourself’.

  10. Tried to show my brother that clip of Jon Stewart commenting on the climate-gate emails and it seems another brother has made them disappear. Namely big brother. All that was left was a very short part where Jon says poor Al Gore, debunked by the very internet he created. The fact that it has been pulled should make people take notice of censure-ship. This is a prime example.

  16. gord tulk – thanks for the link. But my view of Obama is worse than that column, which focuses primarily on Obama as vain. I see Obama instead as pathological. By this I mean that he and his decisions are not generated by facts or reason but by a deep psychological need.
    The article mentioned that Obama was bored with the Senate, bored with issues – and some of his sycophants thought this meant that he, the Great Mind, was not being challenged enough. I beg to differ.
    Obama has no interest in and no capacity for thinking about ‘issues’, about theories, about facts. He has never given any indication that he has such a focus, indeed, his inability to write those theoretical books; and the fact that he wrote nothing for the Harvard Law Review and did no editing, leaving all work to the ‘lower level’ editors; the fact that we have no evidence of any published (or unpublished papers)…and his obvious ignorance of history and political and economic theory – show us that he is uninterested in theoretical analysis.
    Obama is a pathological narcissist. This has nothing to do with vanity and self-love but with a psychological need to control all people and situations around him. This pathology moves the individual into a ‘retreat’, into a life where they set up a virtual world, a bubble, within which they control all interactions, all people, all experiences. It becomes a fictional world, authored by themselves, alienated from the real world which is never allowed to intrude.
    Notice that Obama gets ‘bored’ when he’s required to deal with issues. He can’t; issues are external material artifacts from the outside real world, they are objective ‘things’; they are talked about and moulded by many handlers. Obama can’t deal with anything that is not under his full control and within his Virtual World.
    As I’ve said, he controls people by misinformation; what he says never, ever, has any foundation in factual reality; he emotionally manipulates – and, if you dissent, then you are the racist, the bigot, the ignorant.
    Obama’s ‘virtual bubble’ in which he lives and controls all relations with others, sets him up as secure from any intrusion by the real world. Facts are left outside, criticism is rejected. If Obama had been left in the local arena, as a local community organizer ..then, his pathology would be confined to those local events.
    But put someone as mentally deranged as him into a position of power, where so many people are out of his control – and the need to dominate becomes obsessive.
    Think about it. How does Obama deal with people whom he can’t control? They literally do not exist for him. That’s why he turned his back on the demonstrators for freedom in Iran, why he avoided confronting the oil facts in the Gulf, instead fobbing it off with an extortion of millions from BP. Or, he defines them as enemies, as he has defined FOX and its staff, as he has defined the Tea Party, as he has defined people as ‘enemies’ if they reject illegal aliens.
    Obama is not a socialist by intellect; he’s a socialist only because it is the only political theory that sets up a Ruler over the powerless Ruled. That’s his focus, and his pathology means that this need to control and render Americans powerless will increase, as Americans reject him.
    And don’t forget the Gang who run Obama, who set up the policies that he’s supposed to market and sell. Soros, Pelosi, Reid – each in it for their own particular agenda.

  19. Thank you SO much for posting the Scilly Isles News. By the way, Scilly is correctly pronounced “Silly”… the “c” is silent, like the “p” in “swimming”.
    My Dad’s side of the family is descended from Scilly Isles pirates, and one day I’ve promised myself we’ll visit the place … I think we’ll make it sooner not later. Thanks again!

    Obama is not a ‘normal narcissist’, akin to Clinton, Blair etc. That’s akin to vanity, to a ‘big ego’. Obama is not like them.
    He is pathological, he is clinical. I don’t think you understand this state; it’s sociopathic. This is not an ordinary psychological state, it is disabling, it prevents the person from having any, I repeat, any direct and equal interactions with reality. All interactions must be filtered through his control system which transforms them and/or rejects them. The transformation is a ‘re-reading’ of the interaction to define it as adulation and acceptance of the power of Obama. If there is any criticism of Obama, the ‘filter’ rejects it.
    The focus is on the rejection of that individual agential power, that each and every individual has. A clinical narcissist cannot allow others to have this individual agential power. He strips them of power; they are ‘the enemy’; they are racist, bigoted, ignorant…or don’t exist.
    Obama is not an intellectual socialist; he has not read, analyzed, questioned various political theories and, based on facts and analysis, come to the conclusion that ‘socialism’ is best. He is a psychological socialist. If you choose to go into politics, and are a clinical narcissist the socialism is the only political system you can support. Why?
    Because socialism sets the state up as a two-class structure, with an inviolate Supreme Ruler and the powerless Ruled. This has nothing to do with Clinton-style narcissism, but, it has a great deal to do with clinical pathological narcissism.
    Kindly understand the vast difference between the ordinary narcissism, aka, vanity…and pathological narcissism, which is akin to sociopathy.

  31. ET, I don’t know why it has to be an either/or proposition. I fully agree with you that Obama is a pathological narcissist, but I fail to see why a pathological narcissist can’t be a socialist. Suppose for the sake of argument that the supreme leader of a strictly socialist nation was diagnosed as a pathological narcissist, and that he imposed, with an iron hand, strictly socialist rules. Would the fact that leader is a pathological narcissist obviate the fact that he imposed socialist rules, i.e. acted as a socialist? I doubt that the people in that hypothetical country would say, “well, yes, we’re living in a strictly socialist country, under socialist rules imposed by our leader, but since our leader is also a pathological narcissist he’s not a socialist.”
    ET, a fascist leader who was a fascist leader entirely for the sake of himself and his own ego, would still be a fascist, no? In what sense would the existence of his pathological narcissism make him not a fascist?

    My only quibble is that I’m not fond of that word. I prefer psychopath; sociopath is just a kinder, gentler, softer word for the same thing, perhaps to make the distinction in the public mind which erroneously equates psychopaths with chainsaw-wielding killers.
    As mentioned many times, I completely agree with your diagnosis of Obama as a pathological narcissist as distinct from a plain-vanilla narcissist who, ala Clinton, would by now have tacked toward the centre to replenish his “supply”. That clearly demonstrates to me that he is a hard-core ideologue.
    Gord Tulk: Thanks for that link. We all use “LOL” a lot in our comments, but I have to say I really did LOL after the quotation about the seas no longer rising and the planet healing … re-discovering that it was from the primary win against Clinton and not the election win. LOL.
    Obama, I believe, would make a superb subject for a modern opera.
