Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

So, a guy who works for Fox News tells to another guy who works for Fox News a story that paints one of Fox News’s business rivals in a negative light, and that constitutes “confirmation” of a fact?
When corporate leaders become political activists they should expect to be outed. We do not, and have not for quite some time, buy anything with the GE logo on it.
Immelt has made his politics quite public and hopes to cash in big time if the carbon tax is implemented.
Davenport, time for you to see a shrink and hit the couch.
Truth is not your strong point is it davenport, possibly self supporting could be something your incapable of also. Put mommys computer down, drop out of Ryerson and get a job fool.
Davenport…what goes around comes around!
Oh noes! Fox News, Davenport! Fox News! Repeat it like it’s the sign of the devil! Fox News!
GE is doubtlessly self dealing here. It is part of the crony capitalism that is a burden we all carry. Desmarais and Power Corp links to the Liberals comes to mind.
GE’s revenue stream is partly dependent upon big government contracts and thus GE backing the existing incumbency is no surprise. However, Jeff Immelt made surprisingly negative statements about the Obamarx gang while in Europe about a month ago, then he backed off after probably getting a threatening call from Gibbs. So the Captains of Industry know they have made a Faustian deal that is backfiring.
It is impossible to stop the self dealing but what we need are some better disclosure rules. Maybe the bottom of each NBC newscast should have a trailer that says “ GE de facto holds a big position in Obama”. Ditto the CBC should disclose “We are anti-Conservative because it is in our self interest to be pro Big Government”.
“So, a guy who gets government grants to prove Global Warming tells another guy gets government grants to prove Global Warming a story that paints Global Warming in a positive light, and that constitutes “confirmation” of a fact?”
Yes.
It is just a coincidence that the Obama administration wrote rules so that only GE engines could be used on US built commercial aircraft? Of course these rules were based on “environmental” issues, and there is nothing more to this multi billion dollar handout to the corporation that just happened to own a network whose “anchor”, Brian Williams genuflected and all but tugged his forelock when he saw Obama. On camera.
It is just a coincidence that the Obama administration wrote rules so that only GE engines could be used on US built commercial aircraft?
Where did you read this? Boeing has been exclusively GE on the longer-range 777s and 737s (joint-venture GE-Snecma engines) for a long time, but you can buy 787s with Rolls-Royce engines.
Jeff Immelt is an economic advisor to Pres. Obama. Early in 2009 an announcement – “Immelt named to Obama’s Economic Advisory Board” –

Davenport: (that’s another word for couch, isn’t it? You exhibit the intelligence of one.)
Charles Gasparino, aka Gasbag, worked as a reporter for CNBC for a number of years; he only left (was forced out) earlier this year. So, yes, when he says his former colleagues were chewed out by Immelt for not supporting Will Smith enough, you can believe it.
KevinB: “Charles Gasparino, aka Gasbag, worked as a reporter for CNBC for a number of years; he only left (was forced out) earlier this year.”
Yeah, I realized that he used to work for CNBC. Your point being what? That because he was once on the inside, his word is now golden?
And pointing out that he was “forced out” of CNBC only weakens your claim that when Gasparino says something about his former colleagues, “you can believe it.” Now he’s “a guy with a grudge who works for Fox News…”
Oh, and starting off with ad hominems? That doesn’t help your argument or your credibility either.
Notwithstanding NBC’s propensity towards suicide which Kate appropriately mocks, I see absolutely nothing wrong with the concept of a PRIVATE media outlet slanting itself towards a preferred candidate or political ideology. Noone is being forced to finance it through taxes nor the media currency of viewership.
I’m as dumbfounded as the next guy at the way the crowded left-wing media doubles, triples and quadruples down on their political bias. It’s as if they’re trying to drink themselves sobor. They do so at their peril. ork
GE; The only original Dow Jones company remaining is my understanding. if i am correct it seems a long standing ability to initiate preferential treatment has fallen victim to an alert internet review of their modus oprendi. I discontinued purchasing GE products when Glenn Beck highlighted the veracity claims of GE many months ago. Cheers;
Parsing Davenport:
DAV – Disabled American Veteran
en – in (en Francais)
port – hello sailor 🙂
The dilemma I found myself in today; the only incandescent light bulbs that Walmart carried were made by GE. Now to find a store that carries non GE incandescents.
Couch (davenporter)
Immelt forced Universal to cancel advertizing with a local rag that bad mouthed Ozero
Ozero put a good word in for GE while talking to the kommie….erm… the Russians
now don’t you think that Immelt may just know which side his bread is buttered on??????
Mao had a pet capitalist whose name escapes me in his later years retinue when international commerce “stuff” needed to happen in a hurry. Not that I’m suggesting Inmelt need lower himself that far while he is obviously still in charge of a goodly number of strings attached to the marionette.
Davenport:
Insults, especially witty ones like mine, are not, in any way, ad hominem arguments. You might try looking it up.
And that accusation is particularly rich, since your entire argument is a textbook example of argument ad hominem circumstantial. You make no attempt to disprove or refute Gasparino’s statement; you just assumed, first, that because he works for Fox, his statement is false, and then when I pointed out that he worked for CNBC, you doubled down by saying that he’s a guy with a grudge.
Final score on ad hominem arguments:
KevinB: 0
Davenport: 2
I await your reply, so I can win 0-3, and claim game, set, and match.
GE was rewarded big time by Obama’s SEC (Security & Exchange Agency) they settled a security fraud (2009) case in the darkness…Judge in New England signed it off. .Part of that Settlement may have been that they sell NBC. A fraud conviction triggers FCC action…
Davenport: The Story was reported at the time it happened…The Chicago Exchange melt down of CNBC reporter triggered Immelt’s visit. Speculation was that the reporter would be fired.. Those are all verifiable facts.
The Fox report is “new” in that it includes what was allegedly said in the meeting..
Fox may be working a story re: SEC
