Mike Danger*: Not Incautious Enough!

Now is the time at SDA when we juxtapose!
Liberal Party of Canada, July 24thA cautious politician* does not give high-fives to kids who are old enough to say the darndest things, in front of a gauntlet of reporters.
Canadian Press, July 25th“I could see her head, and she wasn’t moving, so that really frightened me, and so I dove right into the water,” said [Industry Minister Tony Clement], who jumped in fully clothed in shorts and a T-shirt.
Liberal conspiracy theories begin in 3… 2… 1…

  1. Iggy ‘lives dangerously’ in a photo op while Tony acts courageously in a real crisis. What a perfect metaphor for Canuckistani politics.

  2. I’m amazed that the media would even cover the Tony Clement story…someone will be tagged a “right-wing propagandist” for letting a positive story about a Conservative going to print.

  3. For Iggy’s next death defying feat, he’ll be eating fries without a fork. Wait for the CTV headline on that one, Tabor and Piss-Oliver will commit at least 45 min to his bravery.

  4. Keep your eyes on CBC to see if they report Clement’s rescue response. At Inside the CBC they posted a story about CBCer, Ron MacLean, who rescued someone. CBC wrote an article about it and Mark Kelley interviewed him. Wanna bet this one is ignored? It’s not about them.

  5. Anybody reading the comments on the Globe story about Clement this morning will be shocked and dismayed. Obviously the Globe board has been overtaken by the Liberal war room. Its sad really.
Its interesting when people argue we should have policy discussion but when there is a new policy discussion it results in name calling, hysterical editorials by most media outlets and no real discussion of the issue. Just a lot of name calling.

  6. Regardless of whether he carried her with one arm over his head safely to shore or not, the guy risked his life for another. One never knows whether they would do that or not until it happens.
When bravery is riding a bicycle, the silence is deafening.

  7. They still can’t bring themselves to put in a standard rescue headline.. only say that it was a ‘rescue attempt’ — and use a photo of him giving a thumbs-up in a completely unrelated photo. The photo gives the impression that he is a hero poser. It’s all about begrudgingly covering the story while making him appear as unflattering as possible. Can you imagine the coverage if it was Iggy — 24 hour coverage for days about the heroism and incredible selflessness.

  8. Wow. I can only hope I would react the same way in the same situation. God Bless you, Mr. Clement for your brave actions.

  9. SC, I noticed the incorrect terminology too (i.e. ‘rescue attempt’). One would infer from this terminology that the attempt was unsuccessful. I would hope this was only an innocent error on the part of the writer, but I’m not naive enough to believe that.

  10. robins111: “For Iggy’s next death defying feat, he’ll be eating fries without a fork.”
‘How ’bout he’ll be eating fries without asking permission from Zsuzsanna (whose name, BTW, is Zsuzsanna M.. Does the “M” stand for “Mummy”?)
Kudos to Tony Clement who’s more than earned “The Honourable” in his Ministerial title.

  11. It takes nothing away from what Mr Clement did, but the headline is actually correct in this case. He made an attempt, but had to give up on it when he felt the river starting to take him down.
It was actually his wife, father-in-law and two other locals that got the gal out of the river.

  12. AJ, I’m surprised the headline didn’t read,”Clement Fails In Rescue Attempt”.
Good for Tony,he had the guts to do the right thing.

  13. Point noted AtlanticJim — still we all know that any non-Conservative would get the headline, “X Assists in Rescue of Drowning Woman”

  14. Would not have surprised me either dmorris, but can you imagine the field day pravda and tass would have if the headline had incorrectly said he had saved her?

  15. Down side to the Clement family bravery,
now the ‘progressives’ will be lobbying for a program to keep all citizens safe at all water edges,
environmental groups will be seeking government funding to research the impact on ‘water edges’ due to the program

  16. 62 year old Iffy takes great risk of falling off a bicycle,
    wearing those tight fit’n jeans,
as he travels the country answering tough unscripted questions from toddlers,
while showing his youthful agility by connecting to the pre-schoolers with high 5’s,
and without a safety net !

  17. Yeah, Wilson @ 12:19 PM, Those tight fittin’ jeans could leave Iffy rather crotch bound unless they’re loaded with spandex!!

  18. Slightly off topic but have most ever noticed it’s usually working men that do this type of thing? The guy that gets people out of a fire or jump in a ditch to get someone out of a car. Maybe it’s just that they are out there but lots of people stop to watch sometimes and these guys do what it takes. Maybe that type of thing is too far from Toronto. They don’t see that if you can dial 911 and you can video someone burn to death you MAY be able to help.

  19. I am sure Headline will be,
    “StatsCan Rebukes Clement Again”
    with the subheadline
“Probablity of Drowning In Muskoka River Is Small According To StatsCan”

  20. Talk about livin’ on the edge “Senior goes on mystery Bus Tour” rides bicycle, tucks plaid shirt into underwear, tours kindergarten class! Stirs soggy scrambles without safty net. What an exciting candidate! Are you excited yet Joe and Jane Canuck?

  21. Iggy’s spin-doctors should have done their homework, before implying that
Harper is afraid to shake hands with kids.
Scroll through the 22 pics in the Photo Gallery Section (Stampede Breakfast) of PM Harper’s website, and in pic #10, he is shaking hands with a little girl !

  22. AJ you’re quite right. Upon second reading, it appears Clement did not, in fact, reach the woman.
Although, I could have swore the paragraph describing Clements efforts has been amended since my first reading. Did the paragraph earlier not being as “As Clement scrambled to shore…”? Now it begins, “As Clement swam to shore”. The description appears a bit clearer as to the events.

  23. Irony, once again, and as usual, is lost upon the resident commie troll (which can’t even spell its invectives properly).

  24. As of 8:40 am PDT, the Globe & Mail, National Post and CTV all have the story of Tony Clement’s rescue of a woman from a Muskoka river on the home page of their websites. The CBC does not. Says it all.

  25. Eight of the dozen red-shirted “young people” behind Ignatieff are female. As I’ve maintained elsewhere, liberalism is female-driven to a significant extent. The “bravery” lauded on that Liberal Party website may seem more ludicrous to us than it does to the average female.

  26. Quickly reading the story I can see that they did seem to ignore the other co-rescuers, but then again Tony Clement is the newsworthy name. You can bet your Sunday brunch that any politician involved in something notable will have the story revolve around them. Anyone catch the name of the other people incarcerated the same day as Lindsay Lohan??? I didn’t think so.
The thing that disgusts me is the leftoid comments on the article. Those are some sick puppies out there.

  27. Louise @ 11:02AM
The story was on CBC News Network where reporter John Northcott could not give credit to Clement by just reporting the story. Instead he “reminded” viewers that Clement is under fire on the Long Census Form issue. At the end of the report, Northcott added again that Clement is under fire for the census and that he could use the rescue to, as Northcott put it, “rehibilitate” his public image.

  28. It just so happened that Mr. Clement was there to do an extraordinary thing and Ignatieff was not. Chalk that up to fate, what have you. Nevertheless, he risked his life to help.God love him.
As for ulianov, he named himself after a syphilitic murderer. Don’t pay attention to him.

  29. Another stark reminder of the difference between metrosexual liberal culture (to which Iggy subscribes) and Canadian culture (which resides outside of metropolitan TO and Montreal).
Metros like Iggy define “risk” as changing manicurists without a recommendation.
Canadians like Clement define risk as swimming against the prevailing current for a just cause.

  30. Eating fries with out a fork is child’s play. A true super hero eats a hot dog with his bare hands!

  31. Can someone please jog my memory but for some reason the Tony Clement story is de ja vue all over again. Didn’t he ‘rescue’ someone else about a year ago?

  32. Your billion dollars a year hard at work. CBC posted the story, under the Toronto section, 10 minutes ago.
CTV had it four hours ago.
Bloggers had it 21 hours ago.
Why do I feel cheated out of some tax dollars here?

  33. Hard to believe Clements helped rescue people when that action was “voluntary.”
Oh the tyranny of it all!

  34. The CBC is junk. The CBC attracts mostly just socialists.
I think it’s awesome that Tony Clement sprung to the rescue, just as a superhero would.
I think it’s pitiful that Ignatieff wears a silly bike helmet while parading around. Bike helmets are for sissies. I didn’t wear one, my parents didn’t wear one, and I grant my children the freedom *not* to wear one.
Do any of you force your kids to wear bicyclette helmets? If you do, I feel sorry for them.

  35. LibZiffy says, I-Moi, am not now; nor, have I-Moi, ever been a member of the Racist Party.
Liberal candidate Jennifer Pollock: “Me too”.
    …-
“Calgary Lib candidate calls police racist
A Calgary Liberal candidate is causing headaches for Leader Michael Ignatieff, going on Twitter to accuse the Calgary police of racism.
Calgary West candidate Jennifer Pollock, who posts on Twitter as jcpollock, passed on another Calgary resident’s message about the police to her followers.
“Seriously, I’ve seen so many issues with the (Calgary) police department and their blatant racism,” the resident tweeted.
Pollock re-tweeted the message Saturday night, adding “Me too.”
The next day, Pollock added more to her initial comment.
Pollock re-tweeted the message Saturday night, adding “Me too.”
The next day, Pollock added more to her initial comment.
“My statement is not condemning Calgary Police Service – but admitting need for change – yes (there are) some racist cops in (Calgary),” she wrote, tagging the post with the Liberal party discussion tag.
“It would be good if every act or incident was reported to police but there are trust and resource issues,” she wrote.”

  36. ulianov at 12:42 PM: “Once again, sda smugly juxtaposes apples to rubber boots to prove…sweet fcuk all.”
    ==============
The apples being Tony Clement and the rubber boots being Iggster. Hip waders, I would imagine.

  37. AtlanticJim at 3:41 PM: “Your billion dollars a year hard at work. CBC posted the story, under the Toronto section, 10 minutes ago.

    ====================
Jim, you should post that at the CBC website.

  38. Darn straight. If Iggy were there the RCMP would have pulled the unfortunate woman from the river. Okay, not if there was pithed off squirrel nearby that had killer fangs and all but maybe he could have watched.

  39. I take it all back. CBC Windsor has the story up on the web and a video of an interview which was perfectly fine, without any invective or slimeball insinuation. It’s the same one as the Toronto post.
There’s a link to the Toronto story from the CBC Calgary & CBC Regina websites, so I presume it’s published country wide on a template and the more local or regional stories fill in spots on the template that are left for local/regional news. Better late than never.
Now, if they could just clean up the comments.

  40. Hmmm…a single sourced story, the only details coming from Clement himself; none of the other witnesses interviewed; Clement didn’t actually rescue anyone, but he did “get in the water”; Clement was getting lots of bad press lately, but now, he’s kind of a hero…pretty fishy. Didn’t he rescue someone before?

  41. I know what fatigue he must have felt. Almost was drowned myself trying to help a friend. Who it turned out never knew how to swim. I did learn one thing though, never just jump in to help if their drowning. Bring something for them to hang onto, or they will drown you.
Its sad but true. We get a lot of drownings in the North Saskatchewan from boaters or kids just playing. The undercurrents are lethal when the water is high. In California I hear its pool deaths.

  42. How was Tony Clement relevant again? Oh yeah, he signed the mortgage forms. Well done, minister’s wife and father in law.
Stephen Harper managed the whole operation from the PMO, or that’s what I am told.

  43. You know what Rove. He probably shoved her into the water, too. All staged, I tell ya.
How ’bout this for a good conspiracy theory? You lunatics on the left can’t let the “Harper Agenda” narrative die, even if it means sacrificing a virgin by throwing her into a raging river, can ya..
Anywho, it’s no worse than the single sourced story about Ron MacLean of HNIC fame, helping to pull someone out of the Delaware River. What’s good for the goose….
