  1. I suppose Egypt will be building the mother of all granaries now and taking over the world again. Trust a liberal to not keep his mouth shut!

  2. The Pharohs built their empire with slave labour.
How could Canada have had a surplus with a national debt of $600 Billion dollars?
Just the cost of debt servicing fees, interest paid combined with inflation, would eat up the “surplus” on an annual basis.

  3. So now the left is down to criticizing Stephen Harper because he doesn’t behave enough like an Egyptian pharoh for their tastes?
    Um … what??!

  4. One of the benefits of being a fiscal conservative with degrees in engineering, mathematics, and ancient history is that I can be offended three times over by dumbasses like this one.
You know, history is usually found in the liberal arts department. You’d think all these liberal arts grads would have studied some, at some point.

  5. No doubt all his Liberal friends think he’s very clever. Which makes it just SO much more hilarious!
The Pharaoh… BWAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!! Yeah, in hard times the Pharaoh would have left your dumb-@ss to starve and sold that surplus grain for beer and dancing girls.
Kind of like what Barry is doing right now in the USA, oddly.

  6. The only reason Harper has spent any perceived surplus and borrowed to spend is to maintain something close to par our currency with the States. If he did not you can be assured that eastern liberals representing Ontario and Quebec manufacturers would be screaming them selves hoarse.
    Its a poor excuse…but reality.

  7. How do you even find this stuff Kate?
I’d love for Harper to raise taxes if that meant I could keep some slaves. I’d vote for Ignatieff if he ran on a pro-slavery ballot. I’d get to finally live the romanticized life of a fictitious confederate colonel 😀

  8. Leave it to a Liberal to line up with the Pharoahs. Their present is so bleak they can’t perceive of anything close to reality.

  9. The Liebrano’s’don’t save surplus taxes….the give it to foundations that we can not have access to…maybe the plant grain….*8 billion worth…

  10. The Liebrano’s’don’t save surplus taxes….they give it to foundations that we can not have access to…maybe they plant grain….*8 billion worth…

  11. So the dope wants Harper to be a dictator, hoard food, amass a large invading army, build temples to himself, imprison slaves for centuries and keep taxing? Wow. Who’s the real StupidStick?

  12. We would have plenty of surplus if we just cut our bloated, unproductive, and obstructive government!!! We are over taxed. Government has a spending problem. We need a Canadian tea party!

  13. If I was PMSH I’d create the new “surplus” by axing federal programs and the deadwood people who are employed by them.
After all, they don’t vote conservative anyway.
That kind of thinking would be in line with how the Pharohs thought.

  14. As if the Liberals really socked the money in a grain silo. The Liberal pharoh would have claimed the surplus all the while baking bread with the grain for his friends and his party.
Creating additional tax capacity is another way to save rather than the government allegedly saving the money for you.
Yup, next Liberal campaign, “vote me and we will raise the HST”
That being said, I would rathe rthey cut income taxes rather than cut the HST. You can avoid the HST by cutting back your spending if you need to. Income tax is just dead weight.

  15. “We need a Canadian tea party!”
Of Tea and Taxes: Understanding the Boston Tea Party
How Falling Tea Prices Helped Provoke the Boston Tea Party
    http://abcnews.go.com/Business/TheBi…ry?id=11071972
…what really motivates the protesters now doesn’t really have that much to do with growth or deficits. It’s about rage at the gap the Tea Partiers see between the Responsibles and the Deadbeats.
Underneath the talk about economic policy is a moral agenda that holds that the job of government is to reward the values of the hard-working and punish the failure of the irresponsible, who the Tea Partiers tend to believe are largely responsible for their own misery. …. In the Tea Party view of the world, government is paid for by the Responsibles while serving the Deadbeats. The Responsibles mind their money wisely, work hard, pay their debts, and are burdened by taxes that go to subsidize the Deadbeats. The Deadbeats — from undocumented foreign workers to folks collecting unemployment checks — feed from the public trough…. The Tea Partiers may talk about economic growth, but what they really care about is the moral project of rewarding the Responsibles and punishing the Deadbeats. For the movement zealots, it’s the principle that really counts — and even a little Depression may not be too high a price to see it through.

  16. Mound of something without a doubt.
“He balanced the budget, began paying down debt and kept taxes high enough to amass a healthy surplus. There it is again, that word “surplus.””
    should be prefaced/revised to read:
Aided by the noncoverage of a compliant, boot licking, MSM, he got away with dozens of unfair taxation schemes, raised contribution levels, and excessive premium scams in contrast to the media firestorms raised against the previous Tory government’s timid OAS pension clawback proposal.
“He balanced the budget, began paying down debt and kept taxes high enough to amass a healthy surplus. There it is again, that word “surplus.”

  17. How the Federal government could ever have a “surplus” while having a monstrously huge national debt is lost on me.
    Creative reality at it’s finest.
Pass the bong over here, maybe if I had enough hits I’d forget how I can’t view the world through rose coloured glasses like Liberals do, at least for 1 hour.
(I have no personal or household debts)

  18. “As if the Liberals really socked the money in a grain silo.” I thought we discovered it was brown bags in Quebec.
After reading the mound of sound’s post, I realized that I had forgotten just how dumb Liberals can be.

  19. The “handlers” or social agents (the soical engineer’s workers) are the ones who get the bulk of any money supposedly earmarked for the unemployed.

  20. I wonder which Pharoah Sound is thinking of.
The early Pharoahs at least, were regarded as
gods on Earth. Typical Liberals, I suppose.

  21. It is my considered opinion that most easterners who just love to slag the west do so out of a frustrated sense of loss of empire, which undermines their cbc-coddled conceited construct of self.
Essentially; how dare they vote different than us, we are their betters, we know what is best for them (and the world of course).
The recent item of an eastern whackademic with his wet dream of a Canada with 100.000.000 people underscores the above diagnosis.
And of course we will need to import the additional 70MM to make this imperialist fantasy come through, since the socialist hordes in Ottawa have raped the earnings power of the average middle class since the late sixties to finance one useless whacko scheme after another. Momentum carried us into deficit after deficit. And because of that, the middle class cannot afford significant sized families.
Bonus points for importing 70MM jihadi canadians to erase the preceding culture.

  22. “And because of that, the middle class cannot afford significant sized families.”
Yup! High taxes result in small families.
We can’t afford the government that we have. We need to shrink the government.

  23. “And because of that, the middle class cannot afford significant sized families.”
Yup! High taxes result in small families.
    ~Lorenzo
    Too true.
    Very few people know that.
Yet a lot of our taxes go to foreign aid and to bring non-assimilating foreigners to Canada.
Certainly not the kind of behaviour a governing Pharoh would engage in at the expense of his people, surplus or no surplus.

  24. I think Mound of Sound is worried about the demise of the Canadian Wheat Board; he probably thinks that it is a storage bin for ‘free wheat’. As we know, the Prime Minister has ‘attached’ that corrupt outfit. It does need to be said, however, that the Canadian Wheat Board would have the ‘respect’ of an average ancient Pharaoh living in ancient Egypt. The board steals other peoples grain for the benefit of loyal supporters and the corrupt officials would have found their own ilk in the corrupt officials that Pharaohs deployed.
West Coast people are big eaters; food and thinking of food is a Vancouver pastime; when they are not shooting up at ‘free drug clinics’.
The ‘living image’ of the ‘boy Pharaoh’, King Tut (this west coaster must have taken inspiration for the article from the King Tut exhibit that was out west a few years ago – fess up Mound of Sound – because the narrative definitely echos that exhibit) is south of the border; you should move south, Mound of Sound!

  25. If this Liberal wants Cleopatra to become the new Pharaoh, he’s going to have to persuade her to leave Magna and re-enter politics. 🙂

  26. Of course you should build a Granary first. That increases you city population, so you can build Walls faster and maximise the defensive potential of your Spearmen.
The real trick, though, is to skip Democracy and go to a Communist government as soon as you can, because it maximizes productivity and minimizes social unrest. Communist governments are far more efficient than Republics or Democracies. And that way you can be the first to complete your Spaceship.
This is what happens when cellar-dwelling nimrods learn all of their history by playing “Civilization II”.

  27. Seems like Mound of Sound misses his mummy. /rimshot
This sounds like a Lieberal that can’t wait for King Tut Creton awakes and rises from his sarcophagus.

  28. “The Pharoahs built a mighty Egyptian empire replete with temples, palaces, the pyramids, and a massive, all-powerful army.”
The good Liberal sees no contradiction in the governments of Chretien and Martin, who devastated the “all-powerful army”.

  29. Typical Lib-left screed. Smug, arrogant, snide, narrow minded and devoid of fact.
A)No liberal government EVER made a payment on the national debt(the principle). They struggled to pay the yearly interest only. Harper is the only PM who has used a budget surplus to make a payment on the national debt principle.
B)Liberal borrowing excess of the 70s caused the IMF to threaten Martin with down graded credit status unless he returned to balanced budgets and paying the whole debt interest yearly (they had deferred some interest payments) Martin balanced the federal budgets by defunding the federal share of health care from 50% to 14%. All this “balanced budget” did was ensure the Liberals only spent what they collected in taxes – unlike their previous performance.
    C) It is impossible to have “surplus” revenues when the nation has 1/2 trillion debt load. All “surplus ” should have found its way to paying down the debt principle – but it didn’t. Some of this surplus found its way into Liberal slush funds for patronage pork barreling (Ad scam, Gun registry contractors, Kyoto default payments to China, etc.) Liberal budget “surpluses” only last until the budget is reported then it vanishes into that great abyss of general revenues (A black hole). Discovery of this slight of hand budgeting during Gomery’s inquiry is why the electorate has parked them on the opposition benches.
    D) our lib-left Professor who makes fallacious equivalences between the state craft of duplicitous Liberal Exchequers and Egyptian Kings, has not figured out the difference between budget balance, debt interest service and debt principle elimination – or reality for that matter.

  30. “Progressive Democracy”
It is a generally sound rule that, whenever either “democracy” or “justice” is qualified by an adjective, neither democracy nor justice is being proposed.

  31. The question that the Leftards will never ask themselves is:
“If we’re of such superior intelligence, why are we sitting in the cheap seats?”
They’ll never acknowledge that they’re mistaking their ideology for intelligence. That would be too much for them to handle. One of the biggest selling features of becoming a Leftard is that you immediately get to be considered as intelligent, and yet never being smart enough to know that a three dressed as a nine is still a three.

  32. If I remember correctly Killer Cretchen was finance minister when Scuzzy Trudeau started defficite financing -With the able assistance of thoes wonderful dippers having input during minority times.
The Weasel Martin only managed to “ballance” the budget by doing the responsible thing and weasiling out of his financial commitments.
As long as we have 5 times the government we need we are sinking faster and faster.
Look at where people of the world live and that will tell you what the problem is.
So as not to confuse, with age I have become one of them. Instead of producing I am now a paper shuffler, but at least unlike 4 / 5ths of government I supply a service.
This is general but people that live in urban centers do not produce any thing of substance, they preform a service
The ballance of production to service should be at least 10 to 1, where we have a service to production ratio of about 20 to1. AND GROWING.
    Harper ain’t helping.

  33. I’m old enough to remember that it was Trudeau and his henchmen that started this deficit ball rolling by increasing govt salaries from the traditional 80% of industry to 100% or more of industry so that they could attract more qualified people to the civil service. They then introduced a bunch of unfunded mandates that threatened to bankrupt the country and Mulroney introduced the GST to try and keep Canada from insolvency. The Lieberals campaigned on ELIMINATING the GST.Now some Liberal nit wit thinks that the GST should be increased. He must have been one of those more qualified people that the higher govt salaries brought into the civil service.

  34. Harper is a for, make mo mistake. He knos its going to take decades before this Country is on the right track again.
This Blog is run by a loon. The whole World envies us because we had a REAL economist not a Toronto one. In Other words a Keynesian Marxist raised in some Communist Ontario College. Which this blogger makes sure no one from anywhere else would be welcome.
We got a guy who believes in Capitalism. Compared to the rest of the planet economically where laughing.

  35. Before criticizing him for reducing government coffers through tax cuts, shouldn’t people also acknowledge that Stephen Harper’ cut in GST increased the spending power of every single Canadian? Isn’t that a very good use of Harper’s economic education.
And while we are in analytical mode, please notice that Harper’s policy will tend to increase the competitiveness of Canadian firms, whether they are manufacturers or providers of a service. Every time a firm expands employment ( or locates a new facility in Canada ) due to lower costs, that is an unambiguous win.

  37. Liberal surplus = slashed social transfers, gutted military, illegally raided EI fund, no attempt at national debt reduction…
    Sound about right?

  38. Hey Kursk, I’ve been following the conversation over there at the Mound of Dung. You’re completely wasting your time, those knobs wouldn’t acknowledge “day follows night” if it went against their argument. Seems a collection of the worst possible type of Liberal UofT frat boys.
Just think “Special K” and svae a liver cell or two.

  39. I think you are all blind to what Harper is. I don”t think he has done anything conservative since he got in. We have a bigger government than ever and the cost just keeps increasing for less and less.
When the topic of redcuing the favourite red herring is what program do you want cut.
I say how about all the pork.
That should cut Gov cost in half and the only effect on the population would be less BS.

  40. Tony RoBc said: “I think you are all blind to what Harper is. I don”t think he has done anything conservative since he got in.”
I know this is going to make your head explode, but I 100% agree with you. Harper hasn’t done a lot of Conservative stuff.’
    What he has done is
    A) WIN,
    B) Hold what he won and get more,
    C) held back the imbecile Liberals and their taxing/spending insanity from getting worse.
That’ll do for me, for the moment. Considering that I get Iggy if Harper loses.

  41. Hard working Canadians making a good income +$82,000.00 per annum.
    TAX:
    Federal (across the country):
    (26% > $81,941) (29% > $127,021)
    Provincial (Varied by Provence):
Marginal provincial tax rate of British Colombia example:
5.06% on the first $35,859 of taxable income, +
    7.7% on the next $35,860, +
    10.5% on the next $10,623, +
    12.29% on the next $17,645, +
14.7% on the amount over $99,987
Alberta 10% (best example of sanity in a free market).
After Federal & Provincial tax dollar purchasing taxes
GST – 5% (across the country)
HST – (Varied by province BC example +7%, NS +10%)
What so called “Wealthy” Canadians in these provinces pay for goods and government services:
    Federal + Provincial + GST/HST =
    BC – 29% + 14.7% + 12% = 55.7%
    NS – 29% + 17.5% + 15% = 61.5%
    ON – 29% + 11.16% +13% = 53.16%
    SK – 29% + 15.0% + 5% = 49%
    MN – 29% + 17% + 5% = 51%
Add in Health care premiums and walk in clinic deductibles (Quebec coming your way), Bank interest on loans & mortgages 5% -12% then throw in and average annual inflation rate of +/- 3%.
Liberal Canada “increase money for social programs and government foreign aid, we will pay for it by increasing the tax’s of working class Canadians”.
