Understated

Here’s what he would have said when he joined the Canadian Forces: “I, Jody Mitic, do swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her heirs and successors, according to law, so help me God.”
He finally meets her, and he doesn’t even mention what his true allegiance cost him.
That’s a Canadian soldier.

  1. “That’s a Canadian soldier.”
    Yes, couldn’t say it better.
    God bless the lad.

  2. Our Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, is a graceful and elegant leader of the British Empire.
It is her job and duty to lead her loyal subjects, the likes of Jody Mitic, who has placed his life on the line and in harms way for the the Crown. He is a hero, one whom we all owe a huge debt of gratitude to for his loyalty and sheer willpower to continue on in this life, in spite of the sacrifice he made on the battlefield.
I would ask Her Majesty to take the time and learn about what it has cost this young man to serve her. To be loyal to her. To be faithful to his commanding officer. To do the will of the Parliament of Canada. To follow Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
It would be a pleasant surprise to have our Queen stop the formal proceedings, the scheduled itinerary, the teas and crumpets, and look this man in the eyes while he is holding his children, his wife at his side and thank them for their sacrifice. Then pledge to support them with all the will and riches of her kingdom to ensure that their lives are made to feel like they have not sacrificed in vain.
I say this with all respect and humility. This is a dirty “war” and we need to pull our troops now. When will we see the waste of our best women and men who serve the Crown?

  3. In my mind’s eye I’m putting Master Corporal Jody Mitic beside one of the cowardly black bloc bullies. It’s like putting a giant next to a pygmy.
‘Too bad the PC pansies Bill Blair and David Miller couldn’t meet guys like Jody Mitic on a regular basis. It would give them a much-needed glimpse of what genuine service and sacrifice is all about when protecting Canadian citizens.

  4. “glacierman….
“you say you are not interested in war ?…let me tell you war is most assuredly interested in you.”
or words to that effect…anyway….you’re either going to have to fight them there or their ennablers and fifth columnists here…
don’t you know we’re in world war IV ?

  5. Someone knew why he was invited. Why didn’t they think to tell her?
Imagine, missing an opportunity to say a few words with him and be bored out of her royal skull with the other guests.
We owe him a debt we can’t repay, and the marvellous thing is: he doesn’t even think that he did anything remarkable. I bet this guy is too busy living the life he now has to waste it on navel gazing, like too many we’ve seen recently.
As for the oath: her heirs and successors? Hope they cross their fingers when they say that.

  6. What an outstanding, “squared away” young man who is a shining example of what a REAL MAN, and true Canadian patriot is. God bless him!

  7. Seems ‘glacierman’ has melted away from dealing with another opinion on the matter.
Must have something to do with a crazed sex poodle.

  8. “I bet this guy is too busy living the life he now has to waste it on navel gazing…”
Absolutely, Gellen. The picture of him in the linked article – in his prosthetic running blades – was taken at the Army Run last year in Ottawa. MCpl Mitic completed the half-marathon.

  9. I bet you this young man will be working for a living until he’s 65.
And then you see all the ueless bastards in our society, the chronically unemployed; the welfare bums; the petty gov’t bureaucrats who accomplish nothing else in their useless lives but to make good people’s lives miserable…

  10. I can’t be psotive but at one point I was on the periphery of this sort of event. VIP’s such as HER MAJESTY and POTUS are briefed as to certain individuals they will encounter and are unacquaited with.
Then there is my firm confidence that HER MAJESTY could literally READ that gob of medals on his chest with a glance.
I suspect she was not being dimissive but dealing with the fellow in the manner SHE felt HE would be comfortable with.
Remember this person, HER MAJESTY, is THE expert/master of poise and protocol.

I also supect that Master Corporal Jody Mitic would firmly disagree that he had been dismissed/minimised….and was simply elated and charmed to met the Queen.
That is what I would expect of him.
If that is you world view on things..(to paraphrase the american revolutionary general prior to battle.)..we need neither your arms nor your company….depart…and hope the chains of servitude are an easy burdan.

  11. John begley @ 2:55 says it well and is bang on. If we don’t fight them now, we will fight them later, right here, at home. In fact we already are, some of us just have not recognized it yet.
    batb,you got that right.
    sasquatch @ 4:07, agreed.

  12. The man is a hero and an inspiration. The Queen for the past 60 years has had to endure boredom and repetition which many of us cannot fathom. How many Jody Mitics has she seen during that time around the world? They have both made sacrifices for us.
I admire the soldier but I admire the Queen more for she has endured mental anguish and kept a brave face through it all.

  13. IF we were really at war, then we would have used the military might and technology on this enemy and had the job done in short order.
We have been at this for almost 10 years!
Finish the job and get our soldiers back home with the enemy defeated. That is the war which I am willing to fight. Not this “rules if engagement” bs which we see.
You want to see our wealth pissed away, that’s up to you. Get er done!

  14. “Am I the only one who noticed the gang tattoos?”
    Which “gang” would that be?

  15. glacierman, we have let the 5th columnists, their educational assistants in the high schools and universities and the Neville Chamberlains influence policy. This has happened because these people have been very crafty and the average Joe and Jane wants peace and to live a quiet life.

I couldn’t agree more. Most of our parliamentarians want to have a win/win scenario which costs the losers nothing.
The whole purpose of war is to win. If you have no intention of fighting until you win, either annihilating the enemy or beating them into surrender, then don’t bother getting in the fray. Likewise, fighting to the death defending your position because your whole heart is in the fight and you believe it is the right thing to do.
What we call war is nothing but entertainment today. We look for headlines to see what new war toy has been used and how it works and how fast it goes ad nauseam.
War needs to be utterly brutal so that we don’t ever acquire a taste for it, so that it is so repulsive that we only enter when all other options are exhausted.
The Jack Layton’s and Michael Ignatief’s of our current political opposition, have no moral grounds on which to fight, therefore they would rather have tea and talk the Taliban out of their belief systems. They haven’t a clue as to what they are talking about, only follow party lines and speak from ideological platitudes. Gas bags, all of them.

  17. Stories like this are heartening to me. As long as your country, and mine, can still produce men like this, we’re not goners yet. Not by a long shot.
    God bless this valiant soldier.

  18. If only our liberal politicians could have as much courage and honour as this warrior!

I feel an appology/explaination is in order.
I understand the frustration of ROEs fully.
The Russian’s didn’t pussyfoot about and increased resistance as a result.
These COIN operations are not about lines or territory but rather a battle for hearts and minds. Success depends upon a crazy balance of resolve/aggressiveness and restraint(minimising “colatoral casualties)…..and the resolve to engage in a long term mission…..wear them down before they wear you down.
The most successful tactic employed by the Mujahedin against the Russians….was taking prisoners and not mistreating them.
As far as successful suicide attacks and IEDs….somedays you gets the bear…somedays the bear gets you…..
We don’t make the rules…we just get to play the game.

  20. Do you think he cares about his missing feet – or the Queen – when he bounces his little daughter on his knee?

  21. The original premise of this thread, in part, was the oath of allegiance to the Queen taken when joining the CF. Do we know that Mr. Mitic swore an oath to the Queen and successors or an oath to Canada? When I joined the forces in 1990 I was given a choice and was told in swearing an oath to the Queen I was in the MINORITY. I’m fine with someone swearing either one but I am also curious if Mr. Mitic made his choice public or if this was an assumption?

  22. I have met MCpl Mitic, and he is a very humble man. I think he would be embarrassed by this story, and especially the title: one that I find scorns the Queen. I would suggest next time an article is written like this, that they actually get a picture of the Queen and MCpl Mitic together. I expected to see that when I saw the headline, but no. Let’s see his chest of medals and the Queen’s assessment of this young man.
MCpl Mitic is an inspiration. Nobody needs to be ridiculed, or brought down for him to be seen to rise above.
    Once again: MEDIA FAILS.

The two versions are “I do solemnly swear …” and “I do solemnly affirm …”
The remainder of the oath remains the same , and includes the phrase “Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, Queen in Canada, …” If your attestation did not include those words, then you entry into the Forces was not quite legitimate.
    Cheers
