  1. So, if she and Barry can get enough people unemployed and on the dole, then that should create enough spending so that everyone will have a job…….
No wonder liberals are nuts, it hurts way too much to try and think like them.

  2. Nobody ever asks where the money to give to these unemployed people comes from. These extended benefits are what stops employers from hiring because of taxes goes to pay these folks to do nothing.
Gee Pelosi, its exactly what you have done with your life. Only the benefits you get with its overripe perks. only Kings could dream of.
If you don’t want a real job, why do you expect others if they can live on another’s work, or lifespan?

  3. At least her Presidio payment has been extracted from this side of the continent.
    Madame Thief.

  4. Sorry, second time I tried to watch it. Can’t do it. I’m waiting for the more welfare we give the higher the attendance at Yale. What was that figure of business people in this administration? 8%?

  5. What is that fool smoking?? She cannot hold together a sentence. The inmates are running the asylum.

  6. I had real difficulty watching it once, never mind twice. Wasn’t sure what she actually said. Jema has it right; “The inmates are running the asylum”. How could anybody listen to her for fifteen minutes and possibly make an X on the ballet behind her name.

  7. As fine a piece of bafflegab as any I’ve seen. Borrow more money to get out of debt, let Nancy tell you how!
She’s not the only one though. Some highly paid liberal moron on Bloomberg radio this morning was trying to explain how laying off government workers is bad for the economy because then they don’t spend money.

  8. Rep.Nancy Pelosi
    SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE
Thats as bad or even worse than:
    Hon.Sheila Copps
    Deputy Prime Minister

  9. I can see extended EI benefits for a short time, like what was done in Canada for a small number of persons who fit the criteria and time frame, that being said, there is no way that this strategy will stimulate the economy and create jobs for the long term. There must be another strategy in place to create jobs and/or strong evidence that there will be jobs available to justify any extension.
The only reason an extension was introduced in Canada was to prevent those who had exhausted EI from applying for social assistance, and to ensure the government contracted, but privately owned employment services and centres received their cut ($3500 -$5000 per EI recipient) for supposedly providing services to ensure the unemployed get jobs. EI recipients are mandated to attend or sign on with at least one service. As I have said before – these agencies are all part of the “employment industry” that do nothing and I mean nothing to assist a person in finding a job – all they do is offer resume writing workshops, interview workshops; perhaps provide you with a link to a site where you can do a “career and personality assessment test” and show a person (give them a piece of paper with written directions and links) on how to do labour market research. If the recipient still can not find a job after the extension period and is referred to social services they must go through all the same interview and resume workshops and re-do the career and personality assessment all over again with another government contracted employment agency who also get a cut when that person gets a job and sometimes even if they don’t depending on the type of contract or how the client is coded. During this past recession – there were simply not enough jobs to replace those that were lost in many mid and smaller centres in BC.
The reason there are so many targeted agencies, training centres, you name it, out there to assist with employment is so they can all take a giant cut from the social program pie. If a client is sent to four different agencies and that client gets a job or not; EACH and EVERY agency that the unemployed client was referred to and registered with receives the fee mentioned above (less if they are not working by a certain deadline or do not find a job). You need to realize that it is not uncommon for an unemployed client to be referred to four or five different agencies while on EI meaning that these agencies collect $20,000 of our tax dollars for doing nothing while the recipient, at max, will receive $15,000 for 45 weeks of benefits. Social assistance refers even more often than employment centres do, and that is if you are Caucasian – if you are a visible minority the agency referrals increase.
People need to realize that it is not the recipients of either EI or Social Assistance that receive the bulk of our tax dollars – it is all these agencies promising to find employment who hold the government contracts that eat up the social safety net dollars. Keep in mind these are NOT non-profit societies or agencies – they are for profit businesses and they all work together referring clients to each other. I know of one agency that donated $45,000 to the liberal party as of 2005 to secure one of these employment contracts in BC.

  10. Sooo…is she so stupid that she actually believes what she just said…or…does she think the media and public are stupid enough to believe what she just said.
God I’d love to hear a reporter ask her that.

  11. Did she just come back from that smoked salmon vodka tasting lunch with the senate? Must have been a half dozen doubles she sucked back just before giving this bit of Democrat logic.

  12. Ol’ Stretch Pelosi is a card alright. She told the Yanks they would have to approve the health care bill ‘in order to see what was in it…’. I kinda thought that maybe you were supposed to know that BEFORE you approved it…but what do I know?
My only questions is this – is this screeching douche bag better or worse than Hillary Clinton?

  13. Pelosi is a prime example of how the Peter Principle does not apply in the world of politics. This woman is as vapid as she is insipid and ignorant. By her logic, if everybody in the U.S. was unemployed, that would be the best “stimulus” in the world. Yet, she remains as 3rd in line to POTUS in the event Bam Bam and Biden are killed or incapacitated in some way.
    Frightening.

  14. I don’t think it’s good for my Karma for me to write out what I think of Pelosi.
    No-One – v. informative and horrible.
Phantom @11:41 – the dude on Bloomberg was nuts. Once the beaurocrats are layed off they can go on UI, which creats jobs. Someone needs to show him the above video.

  15. I had to stop the vid at 25 seconds so that the remaining 30 seconds or so in order to prevent exposure to patent economic idiocy.

  16. (Wow, the morning coffee obviously hasn’t taken hold yet.) What I MEANT to write 🙂
I had to stop the vid at 25 seconds to prevent an additional 30 seconds exposure to patent economic idiocy.

  17. Extending the unemployment benefits has nothing to do with the economy. It’s politics; it’s about votes for the November election.
The Democrats know their polls are slowing; they are now on a massive campaign [remember, Obama can do only one thing -campaign] for votes.
This is one strategy; its agenda is to please the unemployed to vote Democrat.
Obama’s immigration tactics, which involve suing Arizona and talking in vague ‘hope-and-change’ terms about ‘amnesty’ is yet another tactic. Its agenda is to please hispanics and the left to vote Democrat.
Obama has no interest in securing the border. He must also realize that he doesn’t want the Arizona case to actually go before the courts for it would be his administration that would be on trial for its failure to secure the border – a federal duty. The ‘sue Arizona’ rhetoric is to Stand Up For Hispanics. And get them to vote Democrat.
His reaction to the Gulf Oil spill was disastrous. In true Obama fashion, he tried to ignore it, and using words, hope that his words would make it go away. He couldn’t acknowledge the spill’s reality and thus couldn’t allow foreign assistance to clean it up. Clean what up? Nothing had happened!! Obama’s violation of due process to extort money from BP was his tactic to ‘make it all go away’. He’s abandoned this area because he knows he doesn’t have many votes in that part of the US.
Obama is about one thing only; power. His own power. He has no interest in anything or anyone outside of himself…er…Himself.

  18. Imagine, if you will, the commentary in major media outlets had Sarah Palin given such an example of rambling incoherence.

  19. Bloody Yanks beat us again.
I just finished listening to John Wilkinson’s economic treatise on the job-creating powers of the HST… and I thought THAT was stupid!
Oh well, maybe we’ll top them next year…..

  20. Using Pelosi’s logic the government should give away free booze because it will make the alcoholics stop drinking.

  21. Joe don’t be given them any ideas they already got enough crazy stuff goin on.

  22. Oh, the inanity.
Since The Empress has no clothes, she should ecome known as the Streaker of the House.

  23. Let’s face it. She’s just not that bright.
Politically, there’s no need to defend unemployment insurance; I doubt there are many people opposed to it in principle. However, it should simply be defended on its on merit: as a means to provide some cushioning to an unemployed person as they attempt to pay their bills and seek new work.
But dear dotty Nancy just prattled on and on. Her mouth was in gear but her brain was still in neutral.
Like any other insurance, unemployment insurance only works if premium payments exceed pay-outs. When more money goes out than comes in, private insurance companies FAIL.
When government insurance pays out more than it brings in, it’s no longer insurance.
It’s just another component of taxation.
Let’s not even get into health insurance.

  24. As if one can grasp hold of their own bootstraps and pull one’s self up into thin air.
As ET basically said, “It’s vote buying.”
The problem is, many Americans want more than bare subsistence.
The time is coming when there will be soup lines.
Does anyone know when the Bush tax cuts expire?

  25. The 20th century’s greatest economist Ludwig von Mises said this about unemployment:
___On the free, unhampered market, there would NO involuntary unemployment.___
I know: it’s a shocking statement when you first enounter it, but with a little rumination the argument becomes irrefutable, i.e., the market will always clear a surplus where the demand and supply curves intersect.
Obviously minimum wages (which virtually all economists see as evil) and government-run welfare programmes like unemployment “insurance” would not be found in an unhampered market.
Can Pelosi really be so stupid as to actually believe that paying someone NOT to work would INCREASE jobs? I’d say no. I’d say she’s an evil power-monger.

  26. This just in: Pelosi/ Obama apply for patent of the “U.S. Economy Perpetual Motion Machine”….Patent denied!

  27. If I may be permitted to rant about the “Bush tax cuts”, they weren’t tax cuts, really, but tax deferrals.
Tax cuts without accompanying expenditure cuts of the same magnitude are actually, in the long run, tax increases.
Bush was a progressive and to his everlasting shame never, once, used the veto pen.
    Nice guy tho, for sure.

  28. “Since The Empress has no clothes, she should ecome known as the Streaker of the House.”
Aaaghh! The visual! I need a barf bag, stat!
But seriously, these people are in charge of the most powerful country on Earth? Terrifying. Her economic theories are rather like plugging a surge protector into itself and wondering why there’s no electricity at the other outlets.

  29. To be clear…she didn’t say WHERE the jobs are created! Could it be China?
I wonder if she stops talking…does her mouth hurt?

  30. Great comment, Kevin, but you owe me a keyboard and a screen wipe, Rum and Coke all over!!!!!

  31. Why could the 911 planes not have crashed into a full sitting of the House of Congress instead of the World Trade Center buildings,Pentagon and Pennsylvania.

  32. She’s obviously on meds.
You know the pharmaceutical legal kind of “stoned” that all the left wing hippies from the 60’s graduated too once they started making money and taking baths.
