  1. Topic/Question – money markets vs. gold as an investment. I know what I think (especially with Greece being awarded junk bond status today) but my ladyfriend is asking the question and I don’t have the savvy to answer her with facts or experience. Any input from those of you with suggestions is more than welcome!

    Seek a good financial advisor.
My tip or link is this: http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/call-for-congressional-inquiry-of-censorship-of-islamic-terminology-in-govt-92088174.html
snip: “Simon pointed to a recent PJTV video which analyzed the word count of “Islam,” “Muslim,” “Sharia,” “Jihad,” “Hamas” and “Hizbollah” in various government documents. The 9/11 Report had a word count of more than 600 for these terms. However in three subsequent documents — a 2008 National Intelligence Strategy Document, a 2009 FBI document and the recent 2009 Ft Hood Report — there were zero occurrences of any of the above words.”
An Orwellian world has arrived via Obama and his czars.

  3. I just watched a show called “Dancing Boys of Afghanistan”. Islam is not mentioned. It is a disturbing show because of the boys, but watch for the treatment of the women also. But hey, what do I know? I wear thick gloves when I take my intolerant ass for a walk.

  4. For those who do not receive the PC newsletters, the one today from Doug Finley begins:
“I am writing to you about the CBC. Canada’s national public broadcaster. A Crown Corporation that receives over one billion dollars per year from taxpayers. A network with a mandate to serve all Canadians.”
Moves next to Graves: “Graves expresses opinions about Canadian politics under the guise of being the CBC’s neutral pollster on party politics.”
    And finally gives this advice:
“write to the CBC and tell them it’s unacceptable to present Frank Graves as a neutral pollster on party politics. You can reach the CBC’s ombudsman by email at ombudsman@cbc.ca, or by phone at 1-416-205-2978.”
Writing to the ombudsman seems only to be an exercise in futility, I think most have found.

  5. This from a CBC story on the Toronto 18.—“In another development, the trial judge, who cannot be named for security reasons, addressed the jury on the issue of entrapment.”
Ironic isn’t it, the judge can’t be named when dealing with the ‘religion of peace’—http://www.cbc.ca/canada/toronto/story/2010/04/27/tor-shaikh.html#ixzz0mMocEZAq

  6. “Mr. Harper was unyielding in his resolve not to fund safe access to abortions as part of his government’s signature G8 initiative on maternal health.”
    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/ottawa-notebook/pm-defends-excluding-abortion-from-g8-plan/article1548748/
As I’ve pointed out before, in most of the Third World, there’s no such thing as the Western concept of “safe access to abortions.” A woman would probably have to WALK, maybe for days, to get to a clinic, and after the abortion, what kind of “after care” would be available to her? There ain’t no pharmacies on every corner, or emergency departments at her “local” hospital.
Go to Stephen Taylor’s blog; he points out that the UN’s guidelines preclude abortions in Third World and developing countries where the procedure is illegal, as it is in many of them:
Ignatieff out of step with the UN on abortion
    http://www.stephentaylor.ca/
From the United Nations Population Fund, paragraph 8.25:
“In no case should abortion be promoted as a method of family planning. … Prevention of unwanted pregnancies must always be given the highest priority and all attempts should be made to eliminate the need for abortion. .. Any measures or changes related to abortion within the health system can only be determined at the national or local level according to the national legislative process.”
So, do the Opposition parties want to IMPOSE abortions on Third World and developing countries? ‘Wonder what Bob Rae has to say to that?

  7. Victor Davis Hanson has a superb analysis of the illegal immigration situation.
    http://pajamasmedia.com/victordavishanson/how-could-they-do-that-in-arizona/2/
    He has ten points:
    Here’s the first one
“First, there is the simplicity of the argument. One either wishes or does not wish existing law to be enforced. If the answer is no, and citizens can pick and chose which laws they would like to obey, in theory why should we have to pay taxes or respect the speed limit? Note that liberal Democrats do not suggest that we overturn immigration law and de jure open the border — only that we continue to do that de facto. Confusion between legal and illegal immigration is essential for the open borders argument, since a proper distinction between the two makes the present policy indefensible—especially since it discriminates against those waiting in line to come to America legally (e.g., somehow our attention is turned to the illegal alien’s plight and not the burdensome paperwork and government obstacles that the dutiful legal immigrant must face).”
Note that factor of discrimination. The federals ARE discriminating, i.e., racist. They are essentially saying to any immigrant from Canada, France, Poland, China, India, Africa…that they have to apply and wait for their application to be approved.
BUT, if you are hispanic from Mexico, no application is needed; all you need do is cross the border. Over 12 million have done so. Then you get the schools, the medical care, the jobs…none of which your Mexican govt provides you with. Oh, and you pay NO taxes, so you can work for below minimum wage which means that legitimate workers can’t get jobs..and you SAVE billions which you send back to support your relatives in Mexico.
How’s that for Special Treatment to one and only one ethnic group? How’s that for Democrat Racism?

  8. Al Gore’s Weather (AGW):
Please delete “spring snowstorm” and replace with: “Large storms so late in the season are rare.”
    …-
“Spring snowstorm drops up to 2 ft. in northeastern U.S.
MONTPELIER, Vt. — A spring snowstorm has dumped up to 2 feet (60 centimetres) of heavy, wet snow on parts of the northeastern U.S., cutting off power to thousands and closing some schools.”
“Large storms so late in the season are rare.
Mark Breen, a meteorologist at the Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium in St. Johnsbury, says 22 inches (56 centimetres) of snow was reported in Malone, New York, on April 23, 1993, and 24 inches (61 centimetres) in Bellows Falls, Vermont, on April 27, 1874.”

  9. Scientists Make Cancer Cells Vanish
    Helen Puttick, HeraldScotland, 2010-04-21

“Scottish scientists have made cancer tumours vanish within 10 days by sending DNA to seek and destroy the cells. The system, developed at Strathclyde and Glasgow universities, is being hailed as a breakthrough because it appears to eradicate tumours without causing harmful side-effects. A leading medical journal has described the results so far as remarkable, while Cancer Research UK said they were encouraging.

“Dr Christine Dufes, a lecturer at the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences and leader of the research, said: “The tumours were completely gone within 10 days. […] The findings have been published in the Journal of Controlled Release, with an accompanying comment from editor Professor Kinam Park, of Purdue University, Indiana, saying other attempts to target genes at cancer cells have “seldom shown complete disappearance of tumours”.

  10. GW Al has this to say: AGW is Moi, pace tremors.
    …-
“Iceland volcano still erupting, but at a slower pace”
“There is no indication that the Eyjafjallajökull eruption is ending,”
“The intensity of the seismic tremors is about the same as it has been for the past four days. The magma flow still appears to be about as it has been, about 22 to 44 tons a second.”

  11. Mexico, offloading its impoverished class to the US rather than providing an economic infrastructure for them to remain in, and work in, Mexico.
What does Mexico do with its money? It’s one of the most corrupt govts on this planet. For example,
“For instance, the venal state executive of impoverished Oaxaca, Ulises Ruiz, has purchased 164 vehicles for the enjoyment of his cronies with federal funds earmarked for the construction and equipping of a specialized hospital in San Bartolo Coyotepec. At the same time, Zeferino Torreblanca, governor of dirt-poor Guerrero state, used taxpayer pesos to fly 37 state officials to an International Tourism Fair in Madrid, Spain. Not to be outdone, the Guadalajara-based Jalisco legislature gave 500 of its staff members a 75.5 percent pay increase during the first quarter of this year. In preparation for Mexico’s bicentennial, Guanajuato governor Juan Manuel Oliva will dole out $3.25 million for a celebratory statue. Meanwhile, Francisco Garrido Patrón, who recently left the Querétaro statehouse, lavished $75,000 on each of his eleven outgoing cabinet secretaries.”

Check out the other comments. Arizona is right. And remember, privileging Mexican ‘immigration’ and insisting that all others must apply through ‘due process’ is ahhh…racist.
