  1. Not sure if that qualifies as a reader tip per se, but just posting on the fly on a CBC National report I’m curently watching, with Milewski saying — just like he did several weeks back re the Chinese — Harper has been scolded by Hilary Clinton on the “maternal health” issue. Funny, seems that the CBC uses a template of sorts with which to attack the “Conservative gov’t” (it’s just “the gov’t” or “the feds” or “Ottawa” when they are doing something positive, so as to not want mention the party brand, not wanting Canadians to give them credit). One has to wonder if this was several years ago, had a Bush official commented on the Martin gov’t’s position on same-sex marriage, for example. Instead of scolding our gov’t, the CBC’s narrative would’ve been that the Americans should keep out of Canadian affairs, no doubt.

In its original language by the hand written autographs of the writers. So don’t run into liberal Christians much. Its an interesting article though.

  5. Hi, Joe; Vitruvius here. I don’t much mind your nightly comments on the LNR shtick, and that is because ~ in some sense ~ that is part of your shtick (and to be fair, unlike some, your comments aren’t always negative complaining about one thing or another), and yet I must ask: would it have been so difficult for you, having gone to the trouble to post a comment about an MSM story in the first place, to have included a link thereto, like this?

    http://www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=2745449

After all, or at least so it seems to me, it is difficult to claim that one is presenting a conservative perspective when one is insufficiently considerate of one’s responsibility to the SDA audience. Down that road (not that I’m accusing anyone of that at this point) lies the path of the self-aggrandizing inconsiderate behaviour of the entitlementalists, whose purpose is to self-abuse, on others’ paid-for blog property, and which is normally considered (at least as I understand it) to be misbehaviour, at least in these parts.

And, please, let me be clear, Joe. I’m not mad at you, I’m not angry, you’re as welcome here as anyone else (within the general scope of the rules), but it is an interesting question ~ the behaviour of people who don’t bother to include the URL of their comment’s source material in their Reader Tips ~ don’t you think?

  6. I mention this because Richard Fernadez’s blog “Belmont Club” is listed on Kate’s Favorites – it has been deleted from Wikipedia, by one “Nihiltres”, a self-described “… science student living in Pointe Claire, on the island of Montreal…”.
Richard has a most interesting post up about it all, titled “Into the Memory Hole”.
If anyone cares to register their opinion, under their assumption wikipedia is worth saving from itself: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Nihiltres is one place to do so.

  7. Very good points, Vitruvius. I hope you didn’t use up all your daily allotment of tildes with that reply.

  8. Hmm, I’m not sure about that, Piper Paul. After all, there
were four pairs of parenthesis, compared to only two pairs of
tildes. Perhaps the lesson to be learned, typo-punctuationally,
is the degree to which we’ve become inured to parenthesis.

Y’all do realize, of course, that at some point I’m going to tire of providing your Reader Tips links for you, and them I’m just going to delete your comments as not being valid reader tips. And it won’t be like I haven’t made the axiological situation abundandtly clear: be responsible ~ link your source(s) ~ in your SDA readers’ tips.

“Icy blast puts to flight all hopes for a sunny Easter
Forecasters warned of treacherous conditions this morning as blizzards reduce visibility to zero in some areas.
Northern Britain expected snowfalls of up to 60cm (24in), with bigger drifts piled up by 80mph winds.
Last night 20,000 homes in Scotland and 15,000 in Northern Ireland were without power after winds brought down cables. The snowstorms are expected to abate by this afternoon but temperatures will remain low, with a damp Easter weekend predicted.
Although freezing weather at this time of year is not uncommon — it snowed at Easter two years ago — a mass of low pressure from the Atlantic has chilled the country, with temperatures in England of about 4 to 6C (40 to 43F) yesterday, less than half what is considered normal for the time of year. The unsettled weather is expected to last until the second half of April. Even after that, the Met Office said that it may not be warm.”

“One has only to go into a prison, or at least a prison of the kind in which I used to work, to see the most revoltingly high self-esteem among a group of people (the young thugs) who had brought nothing but misery to those around them, largely because they conceived of themselves as so important that they could do no wrong. For them, their whim was law, which was precisely as it should be considering who they were in their own estimate.”

“Theodore Dalrymple on Self-Esteem vs. Self-Respect
With the coyness of someone revealing a bizarre sexual taste, my patients would often say to me, “Doctor, I think I’m suffering from low self-esteem.” This, they believed, was at the root of their problem, whatever it was, for there is hardly any undesirable behavior or experience that has not been attributed, in the press and on the air, in books and in private conversations, to low self-esteem, from eating too much to mass murder.
Self-esteem is, of course, a term in the modern lexicon of psychobabble, and psychobabble is itself the verbal expression of self-absorption without self-examination. The former is a pleasurable vice, the latter a painful discipline. An accomplished psychobabbler can talk for hours about himself without revealing anything.”

  21. “2010 Arctic sea ice sets record! (latest annual max extent on record)
This is one story which will never be written by the MSM, and one thing Gore and the current envirowackos who run the gov’t in DC do NOT want you to know about.
As most people know, the Arctic sea ice grows and wanes with the seasons, and in recent summers, has fallen far below its ‘historical’ (1979-2000) averages. This has prompted the likes of Al Gore to claim the North Pole would be ice free in the summer within a decade or so.
A funny thing is happening on the way to the ice free Arctic, and that is the ice has been recovering each year since about 2005.
This winter is particualarily interesting because those who follow such mundane things as maximum Arctic ice extent know that the ice in the northern hemisphere around the pole usually reaches its maximum extent around March 6. After that date, as the days get longer and the sun rises higher in the sky, the temps rise and the ice starts its inevitable melt.
On March 8, 2010, the maximum Arctic sea ice extent was 14,375,000 KM2 (square kilometers). Most people thought that after the 8th, the ice would stop growing and begin its usual melt. I was of the opinion that the maximum would come later this year because of very cold temps around the Arctic, from Barrow, AK, to Iqaluit Ca, to Siberia. In addition the AO has switched and winds are favorable for more ice to remain bottled up in the Arctic. Lo and behold, after March 8, the sea ice kind of stabilized, and in the last week we have seen a spurt of growth. Yesterday, JAXA reported sea ice extent of 1,405,781 KM2.
What makes this very significant is that the fact the ice is growing LATER into the year, at a time when it is typically shrinking, means the melt season will be shorter this year. This March 30 max annual ice extent is the latest annual max ice extent. If you look at the chart on the link for the last ten years, you will see 2003 had more ice as of today, but by the end of March it was shrinking rapidly. In another day or two, there will be more ice in the Arctic than has been there on April 1 in a decade.
You will never see the MSM admit the ice is recovering, because how can you promote cap and tax if the world will not drown as a result of melting polar ice caps. Mother Nature is having the last word, and please pass this info along to your friends. Don’t let them and their children be deluded into thinking the polar bears are drowning.”

Something else to note is that accusations of racism are increasing and going to increase. VDH points out that the polarization brought in by Obama is increasing, not only between political parties but also, ‘racially’. [I don’t believe, scientifically, in different ‘races’ but the term is in common use.]
What’s going on now is that any disagreement with an Obama policy or action is not allowed. It simply cannot exist; the problem is YOU. The Democrats are asserting that IF you disagree with Obama, the problem is not the policy or Obama. No, you are disagreeing because YOU have a problem. YOU are a racist. Deep down; you may not know it; you may be unaware of it. But you are. That’s why you dissent and question Obama.

  25. Both CBC and Ctv are featuring stories about Guergis’s staff writing letters supporting their boss. Ignatieff is demanding her resignation, calling her a liar…. CBC regularly has former LPOC communication directors,Scott Reid,Susan Smith, and John Duffy commenting on political subjects without revealing their connection to the Liberals.
