A case of Peri-Millionaire Banker’s Son Stress Disorder nearly results in tragedy;
A man is on the no-fly list but is allowed to board the plane. Everyone flying on an inbound long-haul flight to the United States is forced to hand over excessively large amounts of liquids and gels and put the small amounts permitted into separate plastic bags, yet the no-fly guy’s material for bomb-making sails through undetected.
This time the last line of defense worked. Next time, the paradise-seeking jihadist might get lucky and find himself sitting next to, say, Charlie Sheen, too immersed in a lengthy treatise on how 9/11 was an inside job to notice the smoldering socks in the next seat; or to the same kind of nothing-to-see-here crowd who thought Major Hasan’s e-mails were “consistent with his research interests”.
(Speaking of the uncommon heroism of the earthbound, here’s commentary that cries out for a few minutes of combustive companionship in a two-seater…)
Update – This account mentioned in the comments looks to be legit.
Flight 253 passenger: Sharp-dressed man aided terror suspect Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab onto plane without passport

“I heard on a CBC news report this AM that no motive had yet been established.”
The CBC radio on the ride in today…
The Detroit ‘alleged’ bomber story followed immediately with the report of a guy taking Air Canada to court for racial profiling 4 years ago.
Glad they were able to bring that story up…the timing is surely co-incidental.

“Security breach: Man travels in Air India plane hidden in toilet
In a major security breach, an Indian national working as a cleaner at Medina airport in Saudi Arabia managed to travel on an Air India flight, carrying 273 Haj pilgrims from Saudi Arabia to India, hiding in the toilet of the aircraft.
Habib Hussain, 26, from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, told the police that the contractor who employed him there had taken away his passport and harassed him. Finding no other way out to return home, he sneaked into the Air India flight to Jaipur.
Habib’s presence came to light about half an hour after the flight took off from Medina, when a passenger went to the toilet.
Air India has said it has sought an explanation from the local ground-handling agency in Medina on how one of their employees managed to remain on board the aircraft after having performed his assigned duties. (Read: Air India seeks explanation)
During questioning by the cabin crew, it was ascertained that Habib was only a stowaway and did not intend to harm anybody.
However, the captain of the flight had alerted the ATC in Jaipur where police arrested him.
He has been booked under Section 3 of the Passport Act.”

Check out today’s post over at Power Line (via Atlas Shrugs), “Don’t Say We’re Violent, Or We’ll Kill You”.
“That has been the message of Islamic extremists on a number of occasions, e.g. the Mohammed cartoons. An extreme case occurred recently when the proprietor of the web site Religion of Peace received a death threat from members of the religion of peace:
“’. . . The message included a photograph of a man who had been beheaded, his body resting chest down on grass and his lifeless head placed in the middle of his own back. Another photograph showed a bloody knife.’
“Religion of Peace keeps a running tally of Islamic terrorist attacks. There are far more of them than you probably realize. Quite remarkably, IT REQUIRES TEN PAGES OF SCREEN SHOTS TO REPRODUCE RELIGION OF PEACE’S TALLY FOR JUST THE LAST TWO MONTHS. [emphasis mine.] Here they are; click to enlarge. [The ten pages are provided.]
“It is worth noting that these attacks, all during the last 60 days, occurred in 18 countries. Altogether, jihadists have carried out 14,578 fatal terrorist attacks since September 11. No wonder the Obama administration has declared an end to the war on terror!”
LizJ: “Even though the majority of Muslims are not terrorists, majority, if not all terrorists are Muslim. It seems foolhardy to allow further Muslim immigrants to our Western democracies while we are fighting them in places like Afghanistan.
There can be no trust.”
I have to admit that when I’m out in public and see someone who by their dress is obviously a Muslim, I become very watchful. When once it would not have made me uncomfortable in the least (before 9/11), I now become watchful and wary and tend to move in the opposite direction.
It’s all a matter of trust and I find that I am increasingly mistrustful. Some might call it Ilsamophobia. I just see it as a logical consequence of Muslim-initiated terror.
babt, I agree with you. Pre-9/11 when seeing veiled women or kaftan clad men in public, I didn’t even twitch a neuron. Scenery, no threat.
These days I go straight to Condition Orange. If you’re some random lady or grandad out with the kids at McDonalds, large cranky white men going to pre-combat mode just from seeing you is not what you want. Every time I do it it p1sses me off, but I do it anyway. Been wrong every time so far, lucky me.
Muslims all over the world should thank these jihadini weenies by shaking them by neck.
But then, why worry? Every official and newsman in the Western World is busy today poohpoohing this, making it nothing, saying no motive has been discovered as yet, blah blah blah. If you’re a Muslim living anywhere but here, you’re shaking your head wondering what kind of fools live in America.
But if you live here, you’re wondering why people are looking at you funny in McDonalds.
When dtheir creed tells them to kill all non believers, what is the rationale lfor letting any muslim immigrate?
The Canadian Government should pass a law stating that banning Muslims from Canada and flying on airplanes is not discrimination – just common sense.
Waiting for someone to point out that Detroit has the largest Arab-American populace in the US. And I’m still waiting.
“I would add to my above post that no one gets onto US soil without a passport with the obvious exception of some 12,000,000 Mexicans.”
I’d gladly trade a million muslims, for 12 million Mexicans.
Richard V, you refer to “common sense”. WHERE have you been? Haven’t you noticed that Western institutions have banned such a quaint concept?
Check out the obituary for “our beloved old friend, Common Sense”:

Cheers!
I recall inspiring looks of revulsion and then respect when I reacted to the ER doctor having a hijab wearing Med-student accompanying her.
Bascially it was WTF….don’t let that camel jocky near me….a walking skitzo….a doctor sporting an emblem of an idiology which would stone her in her originating country for being literate.
I make no apologies…….
Yeah ban ALL muslim immigrants and visitors…..outlaw all hijab etc…….if it saves just one life it is worth it.
Cross post: A must see: Andrew Klavan’s brilliant and brilliantly funny “Happy Spots”, the left’s euphemism for the cloudy tissue in your lung x-ray, (aka, the spread of Muslim jihad).
http://pajamasmedia.com/andrewklavan/
I think the fuse in the underwear be fixed, the failed martyr isolated and the underwear detonated to be sure of the effects.
It has also reported that the perp boarded the plane without any luggage, just like Muhammad Atta and friends. Nothing to see here folks.
I kind of like the idea of Muslim only air-carriers forcing the “silent moderates” to decide if they want to participate in Jihad or take a more active roll in surviving long enough to achieve Shariah through demographics. It’s a Muslim problem after all, they all should have to deal with it. No one is forcing them to be Muslim.
How about a moratorium on Muslim immigration until the Jihad self-detonator statistics come down at least to the normal background level of religious wacko events.
Just a few ideas.
I often stand outside on clear summer days and watch aircraft turn on the base leg of their landing circuit into Metro Airport. This thing kind of brought the whole war on terrorism home for me. If this dude’s allah belt had worked, he might have taken me or some of my neighbours with him. The understatement of 2009: This really ticks me off!
Note to John G Chittick, Muslim only air carriers doesn’t account for deaths on the ground, and display a lack of understanding in regard to the point of the terror attacks.
Some are asking, “Why Detroit?” At:
http://30-days.net/muslims/muslims-in/america-north/islam-in-dearborn-michigan/
“Dearborn, Michigan now has the largest single concentration of Arab Muslims in North America. There are 32,000 Arab Muslims from Lebanon, Yemen and Iraq living in East Dearborn, making up almost 1/3 of the population. In some districts it is common to see store signs and billboards written in Arabic.”
That’s why. Have the MSM mentioned this?
[ Bomb experts say there was more than enough explosive to bring down the Northwest jet, which had nearly 300 people aboard, had the detonator not failed ]
So it wasn’t as the media and Obama spun – it was ‘luck’ not heroics.
Works out doubly good, though. Three hundred people are still alive today and the media cannot spin their usual Islamic/Muslim cover up – as when hard evidence is destroyed in the blast. (think 9/11 truthers)
[The bomb was built and the plot organized, say U.S. officials, by al Qaeda leaders in Yemen, just north of the capital city of Sanaa.]
Tighten up security, strip searches,pat-downs,long delays…..except for those who complain long and loud about their rights. For those special people we will pay their lawyers to sue us. Imagine two security lines,a quick moving one for those most likely to blow up the plane, and the slow tedious line for us regular folk who don’t worship the pedophile.Happy Holidays — http://www.cbc.ca/canada/windsor/story/2009/11/12/windsor-police-apology-091112.html http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2009/12/10/bc-bomb-dogs-vancouver-transit-muslims.html
In retrospect, if I found myself on an aircraft that was leaving me in Detroit, I may have had thoughts of self-destruction as well.
Great line, atric! Many thanks.
atric – I’d never dreamed of blowing up an airport… until I spent time at LAX…
Robert Spencer is doing an excellent job on this one at Jihad Watch.
Mamba- My son is flying into LAX tomorrow morning, so hold that thought, please. I warned him to be in line 3 hours early, in light of announced tighter security. I’m not sure what good the measures will do in Calgary. Every single person working security at YYC looks like a Taliban regular.
KevinB,
I flew through Amsterdam a few months back. There is a security check point right at each gate, and you are required to show your ID there.
After the security checkpoint, there is a holding room that everyone has to wait in…seems like a pretty good place to station a dog.
Current airport securfity measures are a dog and pony show to make us all feel better — in other words PR.
If we want to get serious about security, we will go the poltically incorrect route.
We will target males of a certain age who are of Middle-East or African descent for extra attention. We will stop making blue-eyed grannies remove their shoes. We will also do regular and unnanounced security checks on airport workers who have access to planes or to baggage, particularly men of Middle-East or African descent.
Until we are prepared to do these things, airport and aircraft security will remain a crap shoot.
JMD you are right on the money.
Airline security is a joke and it is not run in a clever way.
I don’t think *anyone* should be permitted to work in the security lines unless they were born, raised and bred in Canada. That’s a good start.
I have been through security lines in Toronto airport where the employees speak neither English or French to one another. How crazy is that.
Second, wasting time searching old white grannies or 12 year old white kids is taking valuable resources from searching others who are more likely to want to blow up a plane.
This is what happens of course when you let the barbarians past the gates.
My suggestion: Airline security is funded by security insurance. Everybody who wants to fly has to buy insurance based on their risk factor.
It would work exactly like the car insurance.
If you just happen to be on a list, your a single guy with a beard and radical views, well you pay a bit more, if your 86 year old vet from WW1, you pay a lot less.
Society is funny, when your views cost you directly, then they quickly change, right now everybody is paying so the moderate muslims can remain silent.
