The CRU emails are now searchable. Here’s one I stumbled across. (Bolding mine, read from bottom up.)

your words are a real boost to me at the moment. I found myself questioning the whole process and being often frustrated at the formulaic way things had to be done – often wasting time and going down dead ends. I really thank you for taking the time to say these kind words . I tried hard to balance the needs of the science and the IPCC , which were not always the same. I worried that you might think I gave the impression of not supporting you well enough while trying to report on the issues and uncertainties . Much had to be removed and I was particularly unhappy that I could not get the statement into the SPM regarding the AR4 reinforcement of the results and conclusions of the TAR. I tried my best but we were basically railroaded by Susan*. I am happy to pass the mantle on to someone else next time. I feel I have basically produced nothing original or substantive of my own since this whole process started. I am at this moment , having to work on the ENV submission to the forthcoming UK Research Assessment exercise , again instead of actually doing some useful research ! Anyway thanks again Mike…. really appreciated when it comes from you very best wishes

Keith, just a quick note to let you know I’ve had a chance to read over the key bits on last millennium in the final version of the chapter, and I think you did a great job. obviously, this was one of the most (if not the most) contentious areas in the entire report, and you found a way to (in my view) convey the the science accurately, but in a way that I believe will be immune to criticisms of bias or neglect–you dealt w/ all of the controversies, but in a very even-handed and fair way. bravo! I hope you have an opportunity to relax a bit now. looking forward to buying you a beer next time we have an opportunity 🙂

A more detailed examination of a different series of emails pertaining to Briffa’s work is up at Powerline.
Don’t miss this commentary, either – The Death Blow to Climate Science.

I haven’t read all of the comments on the CRU whistleblower threads so maybe this has been mentioned.
Regardless of the medias willful blindness, this info will be valuable for US opponents of the EPA’s CO2 agenda. If the issue goes to court, the e-mails and other information would go a long way in proving that CO2 is not a pollutant. The EPA was the Big Stick threat used to pressure the US Senate to pass Cap and Trade legislation. Without this leverage, the Senate has less incentive to anger the voters by passing a new tax. This is good news for Canada because the CPC was determined to ‘harmonize’ our legislation with the US. No US cap and trade, no Canadian Cap and Trade.
Will the MSM call this ClimateGate?
If they ever notice that is?
I am rather shocked by some of this. I know that I shouldn’t be.

Take this from first principles.
A tree only grows on land. That excludes 70% of the earth covered by
water. A tree does no grow on ice. A tree does not grow in a desert. A
tree does not grow on grassland-savannahs. A tree does not grow in
alpine areas. A tree does not grow in the tundra
We are left with perhaps 15% of the planet upon which forests
grow/grew. That does not make any studies from tree rings global, or
even hemispheric.
The width and density of tree rings is dependent upon the following
variables which cannot be reliably separated from each other.
sunlight – if the sun varies, the ring will vary. But not at night of
course.
cloudiness – more clouds, less sun, less ring.
pests/disease – a caterpillar or locust plague will reduce
photosynthesis
access to sunlight – competition within a forest can disadvantage or
advantage some trees.
moisture/rainfall – a key variable. Trees do not prosper in a drought
even if there’s a heat wave.
snow packing in spring around the base of the trees retards growth
temperature – finally!
The tree ring is a composite of all these variables, not merely of
temperature. Therefore on the 15% of the planet covered by trees, their
rings do not and cannot accurately record temperature in isolation from
the other environmental variables.
In my article on Greening Earth Society on the Hockey Stick, I point to
other evidence which contradicts Mann’s theory. The Idso’s have produced
more of that evidence, and a new article on Greening Earth has
`unearthed’ even more.
Mann’s theory simply does not stack up. But that was not the key issue.
Anyone can put up a dud theory from time to time. What is at issue is
the uncritical zeal with which the industry siezed on the theory before
its scientific value had been properly tested. In one go, they tossed
aside dozens of studies which confirmed the existence of the MWE and LIA
as global events, and all on the basis of tree rings – a proxy which has
all the deficiencies I have stated above.
The worst thing I can say about any paper such as his is that it is `bad
science’. Legal restraint prevents me going further. But in his case,
only those restraints prevent me going *much* further.
Cheers

Some of you older folks will remember the Watergate hearings. I, for one, can hardly wait. And seeing as how we now have nifty new technology, I’ll be able to watch episodes via my computer whenever it’s convenient for me. I only hope it won’t take more than a year or two to get started. I think tricky-Dicky’s exploits are going to look rather pale by comparison. After all, Watergate bugging incident was against citizens of the President’s own country. CRUgate or Climategate is a conspiracy that affects the entire planet.
It will be interesting to see how hearings will be conducted, if indeed they are, when the key perpetrators of the skulduggery are based in several different countries. But I suppose the UK can lead the way (once there’s a new PM in place) with the “scientists” working for the Climate Research Unit.
I wonder who Climategate’s Deep Throat is? Will we have to wait until he dies to find out? Are their any journalists digging around to blow this story right out of the water? I don’t think we have any Woodwards and Bernsteins willing to delve into this. My hunch is that most journalists are right in bed with the scammers themselves and understand that their own reputations have been highly compromised by their wholesale endorsement of the scammers and their message.
In the meantime, if there is anything close to an endorsement of a plan to replace Kyoto by Canada, there will be hell to pay. The Liberal Party won’t be the only one in disarray.
It’s on, as expected, FOX news.
But it’s the blogs that are dealing with it.
The left is defining it as ‘old data’ of 12 years ago that has been annuled by modern data (Huffington Post) and is now being used to prop up ‘conspiracy theorists’ who are denying AGW.
And as others have pointed out, this will harm the credibility of the AGW cult but won’t stop its political agenda. That’s because it isn’t a scientific theory but is only a political agenda of wealth ‘redistribution’ and a weakening of the West’s economy.
It is particularly easy for people to believe in ideology that is empirically empty but emotionally laden, especially with apocalyptic emotional hues. So, AGW isn’t over, because the emphasis will turn to the guilt trip about ‘the impoverished ‘developing countries’ (such as China and India, who are busy becoming heavy industry capitalists all on their own).
Music is such a big part of our lives. We tend to relate songs of our past to what is happening today.
The simplest of lyrics from years past seem to be so appropriate today. So I offer: (and please feel free to join in)
Roy Orbison: Its Over – it over -its over …. ITS OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVERRRRRRRRRR!; and
na na na na –
na na na na –

Just fits – ya know.
@Louise … I wonder who Climategate’s Deep Throat is?

Like others, I am not convinced these latest revelations will thwart the intentions of the global warming crowd. But surely, SURELY, the media will not ignore what’s been discovered. In general I am hard on the media, but I still have some hope that they are not deliberate manipulators of the truth.
“This event is up on Fox News website”
News to me, they must be hiding it somewhere anybody have a link?
The only “MSM” I can find with this story is The Wall Street Journal
http://blogs.wsj.com/environmentalcapital/2009/11/20/hacked-sensitive-documents-lifted-from-hadley-climate-center/
There is more going on than meets the eye, I do not think it a coincidence that the “50 Days to Save the Earth” was postponed. Perhaps the hack was discovered but the perpetrator was not, so instead of going ahead with the “50 Days to Save the Earth” Copenhagen conference, a strategy was devised to deal with the fall out before the conference – just a thought – seems strange to me that the Copenhagen conference was postponed – after all – we only have 50 days.
Came accross this blog comment over at Michelle Malkin site, I thought SDA readers would find it amusing:

If there is no global warming, then how can we explain the increase in Philippine hookers? I thought the link between the two is conclusive and debate was over. Or maybe the data on the hookers has been manipulated too? Could it be that there has been a decrease in Asian prostitutes, thus indicating the earth is actually cooling and this is being covered up?

Keith Briffa’s the one to follow, alright.
This sensitive guy should be placed on (academic) suicide watch.
He might just break for the truth.
http://climatedepot.com/ is the Drudge Report of the anti-AGW movement.
I know a trick for ensuring that my cabinet sides are always cut exactly 90 degrees. I also know a slick trick for getting varnish to dry faster. I guess that proves that woodworking is all a lie.
Apparently Rev doesn’t know the trick of applying varnish in a well ventilated room.
While the emails are interesting, the data is damning. My long post today on why this is all a statistical fraud (and some insight into that ‘1940’s blip’ – which is actually quite astounding
