And by The Star – this has to sting;
“Ignatieff gets his facts wrong in Arar case”
To be fair, he was out of the country at the time.
The Star requested an interview to discuss Ignatieff’s statement, but his spokeswoman, Jill Fairbrother, declined the request.
“It’s clear and I don’t think he’ll have much to add if the subject is torture.”
When told that Ignatieff was wrong and asked if she could verify the quote, Fairbrother said she no longer had a tape recording of the interview.

Update from Montreal today…

Yet another fumble.
The jokes about Ignatieff’s bungling of the Arar story will write themselves.
But on the matter of Kinsella: I just checked his page, and apparently he’s so dense that he can’t recognize a back-handed slap in the face when he feels it. He’s actually calling Bourque’s notice a “retraction”!
Honestly, I just feel bad for Ignatieff. A very intelligent guy, but if politics is his bag, he’s more cut out for the Senate than the House of Commons.
I think it takes a lot of street smarts to survive politically, and experience helps. Huh – I should mention that to that guy south of the border . . .
It’s a variation on the old “Hunt The Slipper” parlour game: “Who’s holding the doorknob?”
Not to be confused with “Who’s the doorknob?”
As I posted at Blue Like You: My fave faux pas of the week was the Door Knob holding the door knob (while an alleged Door Knob allegedly lurked in the shadows), embarrassing the top Door Knob holding a pink book.
How about a pic of Wayne Easter holding the knob and captioned ‘separated at birth’?
My comment at 11:41: Bourque himself calls it a retraction — but my point about Kinsella’s density stands.
The socialist have realized they have no leader in Iggy. Boob Rae, you’re up but it looks like you are batting against pitcher throwing a no hitter.
Of course it is ironic that Wayne Easter was the Solicitor General when Arar was in a Syrian prison getting flayed.
Why would Iggy think we had sent Arar to Syria to be tortured. I guess in all his time as a Liberal caucus member he never thought it was important enough to discuss with his colleague.
I guess it just wasnt important enough.
How do some of you keep throwing out the comment about how “smart” iggy is? I have known people who do calculus in their head, but can’t figure out how to use a screwdriver. I don’t consider them “smart”.
Iggy claimed he had never invested his own money in anything and had no knowledge of how the stock market worked. Does that seem smart to anyone in modern society? Does he know how to even iron a shirt? Order pizza? Hail his own cab? Russian Dance?
Besides, how smart can you be to get involved with the scandal party of canada?
Meanwhile back at the Liberal war room Mr ignatieff cleverly disguised as a “Door” has his “Knob” ripped off by an impatient staff “ass kicker”.
Apparently the staffer was lookin’ to take delivery of his Chinise take-out order. lol
This stuff does write itself! With apoligies to Poet Jim Morrison (1945-1971) of the American rock band “Doors”
“There are things that are known, and things that are unknown, inbetween are the “Doors”
With more than a few Liberal “door knobs” apparently. LOL
Hey Bubba, I thought that was the Lone Ranger?
I just posted at readers tips
Stephen Taylor has it up on his site
& city tv toronto is now reporting this.
George Smitherman Ontario Infrastructure Minister dismisses Federal Liberals claims of more monies to tory ridings.
I agree with Erick and am beginning to feel bad for Ignatieff (though not too bad, since he got himself into this.) Basically it is painful to watch someone who seems very much out of his element. I thought the shots of the daycare the other day looked staged and that Ig looked uncomfortable. It is a shame to have someone of his intellectual calibre having to participate in political showboating and silly partisan antics. Maybe it would be nice if politics were all about ideas and civilized discussions, but it ain’t. Increasingly Ignatieff reminds me of Dion.
Kate, love this war with Catman. Its a giggle, AND he deserves every barb.
Catman, just remember: you did ask for it.
Yes, Iffy’s becoming every bit as cringeworthy as Dion.
And yet Harper would still only get a minority.
Iggy reminds me of some of the officers I helped train in the army, they could tell you the square root of a jar of pickles, but not how to open one.
Perhaps Iggy has inadvertently revealed the truth.Chretien was complicit in the rendition of Arar . After all the current Liberal leader knows the truth. Mr Justice Oconnor would be interested in Inatieff’s basis for his statement.
rename the liberal party the “Hardware Store”, as it is populated with a lot of UNHINDGED DOORKNOBS, and loads of DEADBOLTS!!!
Ding! Ding! Ding!
h. ryan wins this round!! ROTFLMAO!!
Anyone else get the sense that Iggy is not the Star’s Liberal leader of choice? (Massive understatement). It is fun to watch however — pass the popcorn.

Please forgive double post — not sure how it happened.
Arar’s torture? the comfy chair and the soft pillows. make sure the stuffing is all up at one end.
he never has made a statement .

Iffy bailed out of Harvard, USA for this?
Was this included in the inducement offered Iffy by Apps&Co?
Sheesh … Iffy won’t go home now.

“Disposable income rises faster in Canada
Canadians’ real disposable income grew twice as fast as that of Americans’ in the last four years – a trend that will continue in the post-recession economy, finds a new report from CIBC World Markets.
Since 2005, per capita real disposable income in Canada has risen by $2,600, whereas in the U.S. it has risen by just over $1,300. This is a complete reversal of the trend seen in the 1990s when Canadian income stagnated compared to surging U.S. earnings.”

Guess Ig was in his office watching Ontario’s Deputy Premier George Smitherman Scewer his federal cousins.
Smitherman said today nothing wrong with the Distribution of monies.
btw h ryan perfect post Re: training
old saying is SNAFU thats becoming the liberal theme.
bryanr
FUBAR would fit nicely as well.
h.ryan 2:56, For a moment I thought you were referring to me, but then I reread your post. Although my wife might on occasion agree.

iggy’s just getting started… from “rendition frying pan” to
“aboriginal largesse fire”…
“As Conservatives and the opposition argue in Ottawa
over whether the government has politicized the
high-profile Recreational Infrastructure Canada
program (RInC), the figures suggest reserves are
winning out.”

First of all, I read the TorStar today because I was in a school where this ra … paper is free in the staffroom. This holds true for all of the schools in this particular school board.
I thought on reading this article with the headline “Tories Get More Money and Projects,” NON-STORY.
Here’re the goods from the TorStar article with a photo of “poor” Liberal Bonnie Crombie:
“Winners” (of all the loot from the CPC):
Three CPCers: MPs Greg Rickford, Peter Baird, and Jeff Watson
Two Liberal$: MPs David McGuinty (hmmmm), Paul Szabo
“Losers”:
Two Liberal$: MPs Bonnie Crombie, Borys Wrzesnewsky
THREE CPCers: MPs Stephen Woodworth, Ed Holder, Peter Kent
Of course, there were in-between MPs, but GIVE ME A BREAK: Three losers are Conservative MPs.
This media-generated “story” is just crap, typical, lib-left fabricated twaddle.
Check out Stephen Taylor’s blog.
And the Corpse was spouting, on all fronts, those awful cheque signing CPC MPs were handing out more dollars to their ridings than to those of their master’s held ridings. Wow is that how “highly paid civil servants, unbiased, professionals, journalistic, fact checking, toadie, slapheads” make a living these days? I guess it beats being a “failed restaurant critic” but not by much.
Speaking of Liberals in trouble, I hear today that Dolton McDumbf- and his clown circus have managed to drive up the province of Ontario Visa bill up to $24 billion with a “B” dollars.
That’s $13,000 grand EACH for every single human being that draws breath here in the People’s Republik of Dumbf—istan.
Yeah, I’m a little testy about it. As the newly elected leader of the Ontario Pinko Conservatives said today, the Liberals don’t have a problem here, they ARE the problem.
There once was an old Prince from Harvard
Who parachuted into the Canadian larboard
Why sh*t from hell
It was torture to smell
And the fromage turned out to be cardboard

h r: I figured out a really good trick for opening stubborn jars 1st time: poke a hole in the lid with a steak knife. amazing how much easier they come off without the vacuum seal behind.
Im trying to figure out a similar quick thrust to take the wind out of the lieberals at the most optimum time relative to the upcoming election date.
Phantom:
“$13,000 grand” is $13 million, isn’t it? Cool your jets there, buddy.
As to Toronto being short-changed:
Um, didn’t lame duck Toronto mayor David Millstone deliberately withhold Toronto’s requests for stimulus projects in an attempt to hardball Stephen Harper into directing stimulus funds into Toronto’s subway car purchase (which, since about half the money goes back to Siemens in Germany, disqualified it from consideration)? But apparently, Mr. Harper has friends in Toronto’s civic unions, since he sensed that Millstone had less spine than an invertebrate, and held fast. The upshot was that many projects that might have qualified under the guidelines were either submitted too late, or not at all.
Another victory for Mayor Millstone’s social justice and progressive principles!
The truth is Igghead is simply not suited to Canadian politics. Successful Canadian politicians are street fighters not public intellectuals (wat dat?). Professors maybe interested in the truth but politicians are not. This is a big disconnect that Igghead has trouble with. Igghead is is finding politics very awkward.
dodger – dodger – dodger…. How can I put this to you.”Successful Canadian politicians are street fighters”???? Really? Ya – I think you got that figured out. You could be valueable to a guy like Iggy.
How can Iggy/Iffy be a successful street fighter when his chief stratageist hangs out in latrines fighting with stupid people who draw swastikas on the toilet stalls?
He is going to have to raise his game…. no?
Blurting out this type of nonsense is one thing but to be factually inaccurate is nothing more than a sign of laziness. This clown has nothing to offer this country…zip
