Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite
Radio. Tonight, for your delectation, here are Bob Hope and
James Cagney performing an excellent Dance Routine ¤
from the movie The Seven Little Foys in 1955 (3:34).
Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.

Charming! But why are they dancing on a table?
One forgets that Jimmy Cagney was a hoofer — and a damned good one — before his “you dirty rat” fame (which, apparently, he never actually said). And I think of Bob Hope as only a comedian, but he was a good dancer too — or, at least, he COULD dance. I’m trying to picture DeNiro or Pacino dancing, or Seinfeld or Frasier.
Technically, it’s not a table, it’s a stage masquerading as a table.
As Shakespeare said, all the world’s a table. No, wait, that wasn’t it.
Bob is the best comedian ever, well, maybe tied with Red Skelton for the best.
Funny you should mention that, Ken, I spent about an
hour today working on a future Red Skeleton LNR show.
any fans of the late ted williams out there?

my will is written to withhold all proceeds of my estate (beyond payment of bills etc) until my ashes are tossed into Lake Erie, out from the spot where I spent so much time as a kid.
now I hear the practice of spreading human ashes is highly regulated or illegal.

I suspect Kate McMillan will be retracing her route back to Delisle Saskatchewan and may be about two Tiger Woods tee shots AWAY, across Lake Erie around the time Kathy Shaidle will be speaking at a (London ONt.) Forest City Institute sponsored tax payer protest or TEA PARTY, behind London City Hall.
I am hoping the weather cooperates and London and area residents have a massive turnout, which even the London Free Press cannot ignore as a news story.
See you there folks!!
Red was my favourite growing up.
I just recently found his Pledge of Allegiance video. Great stuff.

“Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff must cringe whenever a foreign newspaper sings his praises.”
“That point should have become painfully obvious this week when the Grits tried to stickhandle a non-confidence vote through Parliament, only to learn that when it comes to a lack of confidence, it is Canadians — including Liberals — who have lost faith in what used to be called Canada’s Natural Governing Party.
>>>> This seismic shift in the national polity, identified nicely in a recent Globe and Mail op-ed article by historian Michael Bliss, happened so suddenly it clearly hasn’t yet caught the attention of the Ottawa Press Gallery or even the Liberals.”
“At least the Liberal leader has one thing going for him as he heads Sunday to Quebec to meet what’s left of his caucus. No one seems to be writing glowing features about him this weekend.”

“Flawed climate data
Only by playing with data can scientists come up with the infamous ‘hockey stick’ graph of global warming
Ross McKitrick, Financial Post
Beginning in 2003, I worked with Stephen McIntyre to replicate a famous result in paleoclimatology known as the Hockey Stick graph. Developed by a U.S. climatologist named Michael Mann, it was a statistical compilation of tree ring data supposedly proving that air temperatures had been stable for 900 years, then soared off the charts in the 20th century. Prior to the publication of the Hockey Stick, scientists had held that the medieval-era was warmer than the present, making the scale of 20th century global warming seem relatively unimportant. The dramatic revision to this view occasioned by the Hockey Stick’s publication made it the poster child of the global warming movement. It was featured prominently in a 2001 report of the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), as well as government websites and countless review reports.
Steve and I showed that the mathematics behind the Mann Hockey Stick were badly flawed, such that its shape was determined by suspect bristlecone tree ring data. Controversies quickly piled up: Two expert panels involving the U.S. National Academy of Sciences were asked to investigate, the U.S. Congress held a hearing, and the media followed the story around the world.
The expert reports upheld all of our criticisms of the Mann Hockey Stick, both of the mathematics and of its reliance on flawed bristlecone pine data. One of the panels, however, argued that while the Mann Hockey Stick itself was flawed, a series of other studies published since 1998 had similar shapes, thus providing support for the view that the late 20th century is unusually warm. The IPCC also made this argument in its 2007 report. But the second expert panel, led by statistician Edward Wegman, pointed out that the other studies are not independent. They are written by the same small circle of authors, only the names are in different orders, and they reuse the same few data climate proxy series over and over.”

I don’t remember what made Bob Hope so funny, but it was something you just don’t see in present day comedians.
I remember watching Hope on the “Tonight Show” many years ago. He made some very mean spirited remarks about Bing Crosby, in reference to Crosby’s serious injury from a fall off stage. Those remarks came to mind, years later, when it became known Crosby was a vicious child abuser. I guess Bob knew Bing a little better than most people.

Does anyone know the logic behind rationing policy of Food Basics stores? Why a family cannot buy more than 12 bags of cranberries? And why does a family need to drive to the store and load the produce into the card in order to find out about that policy?
Coming to Canada all the way across the ocean from the USSR and finding same kind of food rationing is priceless. Canadians must be very proud of themselves, congratulations!
This may come as a surprise to you Aaron, considering how much misinformation you read in the media and on blogs, but now that you are in Canada, you will tend to find that people and companies here are relatively free to do what they want. Thus, for example, commercial retailers are free to set limits on the amount of product that an individual may purchase at a single time, such as if, for example, they historically find there to be a run on a particular product, especially if it is offered at a particular price and/or particular time of year (although in general they don’t need a reason).
Ergo, it may be that Food Basics has a good price on cranberries, the week before Thanksgiving, and they want to prevent a few people from buying all of them up, in order to allow more of their customers to enjoy the deal. There was probably a notice on a flyer taped to the wall when you arrived, or on a sign near the product, which you simply missed. For example, I just checked their web site, and they have a special on Coca Cola, and there is a limit 4 cases per customer clearly stated in their on-line flyer.
In any case, you could simple have asked a member of the staff, or asked to see a manager, Aaron (we allow that in Canada) and then reported any relevant information back to us here if you found some problem, rather than making up some fradulent story about food rationing in Canada and thus further adding to the misinformation in the blogosphere. We expect people who come to Canada, which happens to be the best country in the world, to help make it better, not to simply run around making things up, and that includes you, Aaron.
> which you simply missed
Shove it! Along with Coca Cola.
You’ve just accused me of lying. Thank you, dude.
This information is straight from the manager, who of course was not in on Saturday, which is normal.
The floor supervisor phoned the manager to find out how much he was allowed to sell at one time, because he did not know. The manager made up the number ’12’.
Now piss off and climb under the rock you came from under.
> We expect people who come to Canada
Contact me about that when your expectations of multi-culti muslim and Tamil stock are satisfied. Until then – pike off.

“Iran trying to get nuclear materials via Canada
Why all the secrecy and subterfuge, if the parts were only for the peaceful generation of electricity?
“Iran aiming to get nuclear materials via Canada: customs,” from Agence France-Presse, October 1:
OTTAWA (AFP) — Iran is attempting to acquire clandestine shipments via Canada for its nuclear program, a senior customs official said Thursday.
Canadian customs officers have seized everything from centrifuge parts to programmable logic controllers being shipped to Iran through third countries, George Webb, head of the Canada Border Services Agency’s Counter Proliferation Section, told the National Post.
The increasing number of cases involves entrepreneurs and state-sponsored cells, Webb told the daily, in comments that were confirmed to AFP by a spokeswoman for CBSA.
Microchips identified as possible “navigational chips” from the United States, Denmark and Japan were marked as headed for the United Arab Emirates, but officials suspect the end destination was Iran, said the Canadian daily.
“With all of the UN sanctions, of course, now no one declares that the goods are going to Iran. They actually declare UAE, Dubai,” he said.
The last seizure occurred just last week.
In April, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police charged a Toronto man with attempting to export pressure transducers, which can be used in nuclear power plants but are also required to produce nuclear weapons, to Iran.
Mahmoud Yadegari is to be tried in January for attempting to ship the items to Iran via Dubai.
In another case, high pressure pipes from Texas were originally suspected of containing Mexican drugs, but turned out to be for nuclear use in Iran.
However, “arrests are rare because the procurement cells are difficult to identify,” the newspaper said.”

Seriously, Aaron — you want the “logic” behind “Why a family cannot buy more than 12 bags of cranberries?? — It is so that there are some cranberries left for the other families who drive to the store and want to buy cranberries.
Aaron — by the way. How many bags were you trying to buy?
Was told to take a hike and ended up watching these dancing fools. Glad I did; no science here, just talent, heart and soul. Oh, and it was brought to you by Thomas Edison. Credit where it’s due, I suppose.
Oh, you can’t stand it, Vit? Deleted the post that was critical of you? Whoa, that’s what real men do!
I’ll repeat: you just showed your true colours, Vitruvius – those of a hardcore socialist. I’ll take a note.
