    We have lived through the age of mass media manipulation by the Bernays ad-men and TV televangelists [both spiritual, corporate and politico hucksters alike]. This mostly involved TV, papers and radio. The onslaught left many with the inability to think critically or independently of a media-manufactured altered reality.
    Now the Bernays school of mass media reality creation marches into the 21st century under the banner of ‘captology’.
    Note that the desired response of IT hijacked for psychological manipulation is quite Orwellian: “attitude change, change in world view, behaviour change, compliance.” My my, what a cold calculating megalomaniac could do with this tool and a population of hopey-changey sheep.
    Perhaps we should do a search of Obama’s Czar roster looking for a Stanford ‘captologist’ in the mix.

  22. C.Junkie: “Lib MPs crossing the floor” — Yes, floor crossers. Let’s have some. Things have gotten kind of dull without them. Unfortunately, this legitimate expression of Parliamentary democracy has gotten a bad rep since the over-the-top response to Emerson’s crossing. (Stronach has already been forgotten.) Still, I think it is time to test those waters again, and the inner circle of Libs has given ample cause to potential deserters.

    In order to collect CPP early, you do have to have sharply reduced employment earnings for the month you start receiving pension and the month after (maximum 800 or so per month). The idea behind this is that the person in question has to at least TRY retirement before they decide it’s not for them and go back to work. There isn’t a parallel with Ruby because Ruby’s trying to attach an entitlement to a class of people who haven’t earned it, whereas CPP is based on contributions.

  24. That’s got me wondering. How does CPP affect pensions outside of the RCMP and CF?
    I know for those two organizations paying the CPP each month amounts to pure tax grab since members of both can never actually draw CPP, since their federally mandated pension is rolled back the amount of CPP paid once they start “collecting” it.

  26. Jim: Dont forget also that in the CF you pay into EI & and can never collect.
    As for the pensions I think i did read somewhere that the Govt has put forth a change that would allow a person to start collecting a portion of CPP at the age of 60 without any penalties.

  27. brynar, don’t remind me about the EI. The CPP thing is annoying enough…LOL
    Not sure about the govt, but I do know that NDP MP Peter Stoffer has put forth a private member’s bill at least once a year to allow for that to happen. Of course, like most private member bills it goes nowhere fast.

    Apparently, Whoopi Goldberg doesn’t think what Roman Polanski did was really all that bad.
    According to Whoopi, what he did wasn’t “rape-rape”. It was something different. Just for the record, what he did was:
    Feed a 13 year old girl alcohol and quaaludes. He then proceeded to have intercourse with her over her objections. Sounds like rape to me. Oh, but he also sodomized her. I guess that means it’s not rape-rape after all, it’s rape-rape-assrape!
