Pride is a paper bag full of the green stuff delivered by the Choo Choo Man.
ctv article on this has closed the comments, However the Thumbs Up/Down are not.
Have a look & Vote, Its Not very pretty for Hedy & the Liberals
*Of course we all know the liberals would say: Conservatives are manipulating the Comments & thumbs up/down.
All the things that would make somebody be less proud to be a Canadian were ideas implemented by the Liberal party themselves.
Yeah I’m ashamed of Canadians who keep voting for Hedy Fry too…
Canadians who continue to vote Liberal after Adscam, etc. etc. etc. should be ashamed of themselves.
When a population knowingly votes for corruption, that’s what they get.
Liberals will never accept the peoples’ choice to govern if that choice is not Liberal. They operate on the communistic model of one party rule and they’ll make trouble for any other party the people choose. Just what we’re seeing played out in our democracy
Liberals with the media on side, salivating to go to the polls for no reason but to seize power by coalition if necessary we are getting ever closer to instability and banana republic style politics.
Jack Layton said he would not vote for any Conservative bill. No matter if it was good for Canada or not. No matter what it was. Sight unseen. Unread. Period.
He kept that promise – without even reading any bills the NDP voted AGAINST ever single Conservative policy.
Now Jack says it is the CONSERVATIVES who have not been cooperating????
At least the Liberals read the bills then voted FOR them and then immediately criticized the very bills they voted FOR without providing even ONE amendments or proposal of their own.
Now Ignatieff says HE will vote against every single Conservative bill- sight unseen, no matter what; even if good for Canada.
And they say it is the CONSERVATIVES who are playing games?
Bring the vote faster please!
What have the Liberals & Dr Fry got against young Canadians backpacking abroad? Could it be, perchance, that some of their own young’uns have been less than honourable during their travels?
Your Commander-in-Chief is already a Brit, as well as your Head-of-State, and the GG is a freakin Haitian so whats the problem?
So much for Ignatieff’s claim that the “brightest and best” Canadians are the ones that he has met in other countries. (we stay at homers are so dull and second rate I guess).
That has all changed!
Liberal Hedy Fry said on CTV that our Armed Forces are the ONLY Canadians abroad NOW that do anything to make the country proud.
Heh. Take that all of you ex-pats who got the Ignatieff suck up letter.
Take THAT all of you Liberal appointed ambassadors and foreign civil servants.
The Liberals are now ashamed of you.
The back pack is to carry all those ‘burning crosses’ around the globe, but most especially Prince George.
Who else but Hedy Fry would come up with this political contretemps?
Nice try Hedy, but I think you need to round up a few more rabble with pitchforks and torchlights.
The gal is a regular comedian, but hardly a foreign policy analyst.

I think they were trying to say that Canadians used to be proud to wear a flag when they backpacked across Europe or Asia.
But you know, if you have to explain it then it means it doesnt work. And even if thats what they meant there are so many problems with the message and the ad.
If this is an example of the creative and messaging the Liberals are coming up with then Iggy better be hoping, he doesnt pray being an athiest (nothing wrong with that), that Layton prevents an election.
The Liberal Party machine is really rusty…still….
and does it strike anyone else that Iggy’s message is essentially a conservative one, longing for a better time in the past, yearning for some mythical golden age? Very very weird.
in other news today, the LPC reveals that Warren Kinsella has been operating in the background running their war room.
Nice opening pawn move by a truly wonderful liberal backroom fart catcher.
Wow – listening to Ignatieff speaking now to the Canadian Club I get the feeling that he believes that Canada is a second rate country and has not been great since Pearson and Trudeau.
And, Ignatieff appears to be auditioning to be leader of the world – his whole speech is about how he wants to go out into the world and TEACH other countries how to do things differently.
Wow – just wow.
Nothing about what he has to offers Canadians here at home.
The Liberals continue to shoot themselves in the foot. With that ad they just handed Prime Minister Harper an election-swinging soundbite for the upcoming debates:
“The Liberal Party of Canada says that Canadians aren’t proud of Canada unless the Liberals are in power. Well, let me tell you something, Mr. Ignatieff: Canadians are proud of this country.”
I think that’s been known for awhile now, Fred. I read back in August that Katmeat was in charge of the Liberal election war room. Certainly, if this is the best they have, the Liberals are in desperate shape.
Kate and Junk,
Are you resorting to Liberal bullshit spin? Telling a lie so long it becomes the truth.
There’s no evidence Iggy’s an American. If you sell a Schnauzer in Sao Paulo does that make you a dual citizen of Gernmany and Brazil?
Aren’t the ugly Canadians abroad people that expect something for nothing? And which group would that be I wonder. The truth may be a Liberal gov’t would not allow Canadians to have the money to go abroad. In addition people from other countries still wear the maple flag on their backpacks for safety.
Ignatieff claims that he “grew up” in Canada.
He left Canada at age 6 WEEKS old and did not return until he was a teenager to attend private boarding school here.
He then left Canada for good at age 28 after he had finished his government subsidized University schooling in Canada and a few years in the US.
Nothing wrong with that but how can one identify with people who have, in fact, grown up here.
heh, the only people wearing a Canadian flag on their back packs are Americans.
America does not allow dual citizenship. If he is an American citizen, he would have had to relinquish his Canadian citizenship. However, as we all know, Canada, to its discredit, does allow dual citizenship. How that works in Iggy’s case, I don’t know. When he goes back to Harvard with his tail between his legs, it will be America’s loss and our gain.
Louise,
That used to be the case but now, if one parent is an American citizen, their Canadian born children can hold dual citizenship.
You have to give it to Hedy Fry, ‘she can say the really good stuff’ and get the pass from MSM.
I was at Celestial Junk and came across following quote in comments section:
“Did Iggy wear a flag proudly when he said he was an American?” Exiled Maritimer
This would be the best campaigh slogan the Cons could use against the LIEberals. It is very catchy and sums up the LIEberals on foreign policy.
Small point Louise but I believe that the US does not make you relinquish your Canuck status, it is that they do not recognize it. I know of several dual canuck/yanks who have two passports. Israeli Americans also comes to mind.
Perfessor Iggy is as everyday Joe sixpack as Turdeau except he spent less time in Canada.
Why vote Liberal?
Voting for the Liberals is a stall tactic, hoping to stall the government until the Liberals finally become the party everyone who still votes for them wishes they were. Nobody is voting Liberal, even in Ontario, because they think the Liberals will do a good job!
JMO
Sooo, Iggy thinks Canada wasn’t in good hands all those decades he spent away but he is here to save us all?
Jeezus, what a nutty professor. It’s not clear he ever was a professor but he sure is nutty.
Can you ever imagine, The American Czar from Harvard every owning a back pack, let alone go around the world advertising he was a Canadian.
So when iggy was jet-setting back and forth across the atlantic what flag did he have on his luggage. And when people asked him did he tell them he was canadian?
Why are Canadians currently embarrassed when travelling outside the country?? Let me explain, since most SDA ‘regulars’ never travel anywhere (for fear of falling off the edge of their flat earth).
Canada is the only country that hasn’t dumped its Bush-o-phile nutbar government.
Bush is gone. Howard is gone. Blair is gone.
Canada?? Oh yeah, we still have a Dubya lapdog as PM. Yeah, it’s embarrassing. Yeah, we know…
Not that SDA regulars would have any clue of this.
Once Harper is gone, non-Bushophile Canadians will raise their heads from their current (and temporary) shame.
Yeah, you are so much better off with Mr. Fortress Alberta / Build A Firewall Around Alberta representing our interests. Unless, of course, you invested in income trusts. Or are wondering what you are going to use for food and housing while waiting for the job training to prepare you for that hypothetical job to replace the one you lost six months ago. Or how long it will take to pay back the hundred billion dollars (plus) that will be added to the debt (which would have been twenty or thirty billion less if not for those GST cuts — which saved the average consumer NOTHING). Hurray for the Economist From Calgary (who is really from Ontario, so he is as much a real cowboy as G. W. Bush)!
Saturday, at CTV, there was a video with Ujjal Dosanjh, in BC, talking about the readiness of the Big Red Machine:
“I know that work is underway, with respect to signs, and we have a database that brother Obama was using in the United States in his campaign” brother Obama !?!
Hey, Ujjal, you’re not a Dipper anymore ! Try to work in a reference to a “big Canada” in your comments.
To those who are wondering how Iggy’s dual citizenship works: that’s not the point of this post, and he’s not an American citizen anyway. Kate knows that.
The point is that, despite being nominally a Canadian citizen — a Canadian citizen of convenience — he has repeatedly identified himself as an American (“‘we’ Americans”). It’s a measure of his attachment to this country, and — to put it mildly — raises grave questions about his reasons for seeking the highest office in the land. Canadians really ought to know about this.
And they’re going to hear about it often, as the CPC ads which began to air recently indicate. They’re also going to hear a lot of other things about him. He’s left behind a very long paper trail which all Liberals, rest assured, are beginning to sweat about.
Rustydoc: got any polling that backs your embarrassment Theory up? I know polling before Tye cpc took power four years ago showed that a significant percentage of cdns wanted Canada to play a larger more assertive role in the world and the cpc has done that.
Robert m: so If I read you right you favour higher taxes and think that we should have committed less in stimulus.
And GWB was born in conn and educated largely in eastern schools so he and SH are very similar in that regard – not as you assert.
The US does allow dual citizenship.
Hedy Fry is awful.
The Prime Minister answering a call from Bob Rae to mount a federal public defence of the Canadian healthcare system if the face of the American right-wing assault on it:
“Healthcare in Canada will survive right-wing political attacks from America just as it survived left-wing incompetence in Ontario…”
Brilliant.
First quibble: despite the screed of multicultural ambassadorship, Canadians aren’t treated with the utmost love or respect. They are treated with indifference. Wearing a Canadian flag on one’s backpack says that you are a total moron with little respect for another country’s customs and probably don’t speak the language. Believe me, I’ve seen it.
Second quibble: what have the Liberals done to make me feel proud to be Canadian? The fluffy multicultural policies that reinforce difference and antagonism? Higher taxes? Liberal abortion laws? Rubbing elbows with communist dictatorships? Giving credence to parties that would separate the country? Homosexual “marriage”? Pushing for an election no one wants?
Third quibble: Ignatieff said in his own words how America was his country. Now, magically, he is Canadian and just LOVES the Great White North. He is basically another Obama. No thanks!
I keep going back to a comment I found in one of the national newspapers…
Steve from Ottawa writes…
“Ignatieff saying Harper is ‘contemptuous of basic Canadian values’ is blatantly ironic since he refused a free Canadian flag from an accredited volunteer at this year’s World’s Junior Hockey Championship held in Ottawa.
I know, because I was that volunteer.”
Rustydoc, Robert M: Barack Obama, not George Bush, is President now — the man in charge, the man Canada deals with, the man who will ultimately take responsibility for the fate of the US. I recommend that you learn some new talking points.
And Robert: “which would have been twenty or thirty billion less if not for those GST cuts — which saved the average consumer NOTHING.”
I always marvel at the way that people opposed to the GST cut say that it saves consumers nothing (“2 cents on a cup of coffee!”) but in the same breath claim that it costs the government 12 billion dollars a year. So which is it? A pittance, a joke, not worth saving? Or responsible for beggaring the country? It can’t be both.
Here’s a thought-experiment: now that we’ve learned from Robert that consumers didn’t save anything from the 2 pt. cut in the GST, lets raise it 2 pts. On the basis of Robert’s logic, and that of millions of economically illiterate Canadians, this tax hike won’t cost the consumer anything.
Canadians who continue to vote Liberal after Adscam, etc. etc. etc. should be ashamed of themselves.
