Now is the time at SDA when we juxtapose!
Globe and Mail –
“The Liberal Party would not agree to a coalition. In January, we did not support a coalition. And we do not support a coalition today or tomorrow,” he told reporters in Ottawa.
Youtube –
Bonus! March 31st…. “Michael Ignatieff says he is ready to lead a new coalition government unless Stephen Harper’s Conservatives scrap their attack ads, drop their partisan edge and present a budget that addresses the needs of Canada’s struggling economy.” (update – the link is also from December, the page was “updated” in March)

Related – Dear Iggy…

No doubt a coalition if the libs lose. Talk about a hidden agenda.
We are not at war with East Asia.
We have always been at war with East Asia.
Classic Liberal Doublethink. Doublethink, the act of holding two contradictory beliefs in one’s mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them….To tell deliberate lies while genuinely believing in them, to forget any fact that has become inconvenient, and then, when it becomes necessary again, to draw it back from oblivion for just so long as it is needed.
Orwell was prescient.
As I commented on the last edition of “The First American Prime Minister in Waiting” it will be interesting to see where this leads. The GG is under no obligation to call an election less than a year after the last one She could request of the Opposition Parties if they could form a government and then we’ll see where the Liberals and MI stand on a coalition. Interesting Times?
They’re all a bunch of scumbag liars. Harper, Layton, Iggy…
The Libs and Cons are indistinguishable at this point. Harper has lied as much as any other PM in the last 50 years.
The state of Canadian politics has sunk so low that I’m having a hard time deciding whether I’m going to hold my nose and vote Conservative again or simply boycott the whole friggin’ thing.
What’s the difference between the Libs and Cons at this point? The colour of the sweater the leader’s wearing?
I’m disgusted with the lot of them, and at 50 years old, and having run in a federal election at the age of 20, and having voted in every election (federal, provincial and municipal) I’ve been eligible to vote in… I’m about to say F*** THEM ALL.
And I hate that I feel this way. I want to puke.
Don’t want to be considered in bad form. My definition above of Doublethink was taken directly from Orwell’s 1984:
Orwell, George (1949). Nineteen Eighty-Four. Martin Secker & Warburg Ltd, London, part 2, chapter 9, pp 220
Iggy’s window of opportunity is slowly closing. If he does not get the PM chair this year, as promised when he was lured back from the country he loves, he will never get it. That is the real reason for this bizarre behaviour. Harper did not spend enought on the stimulus, he spent too much on the stimulus, we never supported a coalition, we will lead a coalition. The sky is blue, the sky is red.
Whatever you need to hear, he will say. What a maroon, as Bugs used to say.
BAM! 😀 –

Iggy is a fuggin liar. PMSH has lots of ammo to go to war with. Bring it on!!!!
Kate that March link was written in December right after Iggy got the new job and well before the January budget.
Why it was updated on March 31st is just another MSM mystery.
Antenor:
Interesting times, indeed. It would be fascinating to see her take a stick and poke the sloths in Parliament. I wonder if she’d actually do it?
The GG has demonstrated she’s got some cojonés and takes her role seriously.
Now that Iggy has (sorta, kinda, maybe not) said he would’nt entertain a coalition, the GG could still ask him to try to form a gov’t. Whose policies would mirror the Cons.
Weasels. They’re all weasels.
A question that MUST be asked of every political candidate at every debate, town hall or doorstep, regardless of their party:
“Will you stop lying to the Canadian people?”
“Why it was updated on March 31st is just another MSM mystery”
There were no ‘attack ads’ in December but I also wondered the same thing.
Regardless, he wants to sit on the throne and will take the kingdom for himself any way he can.
“What’s the difference between the Libs and Cons at this point? The colour of the sweater the leader’s wearing?”
I’m majorly dissatisfied with the Harper show myself, but here’s one difference. Remember that recent kafuffle about bogus gypsy refugees from the Czech Republic and bogus refugees from Mexico? The bogus refugees who were stopped by Canada insisting on visas for visitors from both countries? If the Libs were in there would be no controversy at all, because both sets of bogus refugees would be pouring in unimpeded.
My projecion is that he “Ignatieff” gets in due to the support (lots of money and dirt digging on conservative members) from down south and ACORN type voter scandel – pressure – to get him in. Willing to take bets. Figure it’s easy money.
It’s hard to believe that Ignatieff continues to get away with telling this utter, bald-faced lie without being made a laughingstock on every news broadcast. The fact that he’s allowed to get away with it, in terms of prime time news coverage, is *repulsive*. In what parallel universe is it not a giant news story that the leader of the federal Liberals is constantly telling a bald lie, about something so important, in the face of entirely public videotaped evidence?
Shouldn’t the implications of such open, revolting lying by a would-be PM comprise the bulk of, say, an entire “At Issue” panel? Why aren’t Andrew Coyne and Chantal Hebert, for example, making an issue of this? For all the bleating about lack of accountability, and lack of integrity in politics, how can Ignatieff continue to get away with this?
Ridiculous, and repulsive. How did we get to this point? Aren’t the CBC and CTV – for example – in effect granting Ignatieff some sort of special Liberal dispensation to lie to the Canadian public and get away with it? They clearly see it as being anathema to their interests to let Canadians in on what’s going on.
Holy smokes. Even though we know about the ongoing bias and all that it’s still hard to believe that someone in his position can do something, openly, and on the public stage, and then just say “No I dih-ent!” without being called out on it.
Come on. Seriously, is he going to get away with this? Apparently. Absolute, flapping-on-the-pole, noisemaking lying is now a hush-hush matter for those in the media who base their coverage on partisan calculations.
Merde. Unbelievable. And telling.
Thank god for Adler, and Kate, etc.

…how can Ignatieff continue to get away with this?
Because the encouraged meme [1] in the MSM foisted on the public is still that conservatives are Bad Guys, and Liberals are good guy underdogs that are “oppressed” by evil forces (imaginary, convenient closet monsters, if you will) – classic class warfare propaganda that reinforces the victimology theme upon the supposedly dunderheaded proletariat. Or maybe it’s more related to the concept of “the shit flung by favoured monkeys doesn’t stink”.
[1] A meme (pronounced /ˈmiːm/, rhyming with “cream”) is a postulated unit or element of cultural ideas, symbols or practices, and is transmitted from one mind to another through speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena. (The etymology of the term relates to the Greek word mimema for “something imitated”.) Supporters of the concept regard memes as cultural analogues to genes, in that they self-replicate and respond to selective pressures.

EBD, I totally agree. I’ve been doing battle with the Canadian MSM for over 30 years and, still, there’s no respite from their all-Liberal, all-the-time bias. We’re a nation of brainwashed twits — or maybe not. If Stephen Harper and his CPC do get a majority, then it would seem that the tide is beginning to turn …
Sorry you feel so discouraged, djb. I’m frustrated too. I guess the difference I see between the LPC and the CPC is that PMSH, in a minority government situation, strategically has to do some fancy footwork not to be swamped, whereas the LPC politicos lie all the time, EVEN WHEN THEY’VE GOT A MAJORITY.
Another major difference? Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his party are not in bed with either Power Corp or the MSM. Prime Minister Stephen Harper is not a multi-millionaire, like Martin, Chretien, Mulroney, and Trudeau, all of whom were in kahoots with the Desmarais family. How, for instance, does a small-town lawyer like Chretien, then a $150,000/year prime minister, become a multi-millionaire?
See?
As far as Iggy goes, here’s what I wrote at another blog:
The Iggster is THE MOST conflicted politico in Canada today. He’s spinning in the wind, he’s got his finger in the air testing the prevailing gales, that look of consternation is growing more serious, the knit eyebrows are getting closer together, and he seems more unsure than ever of what to do.
He KNOWS he needs a coalition with the socialists and separatists if he’s EVER to become PM — which is the only reason he allowed himself to be wooed back to Canada — but he also knows he can’t make this known until after the election, which was the advice of a high-up Liberal insider in Toronto.
Iggy’s taking his instructions from the backroom bagmen. He’s merely a tool of the higher ups or, more accurately, the very affluent, powerful, bottom dwellers in the LPC. No wonder he’s so conflicted. He’s reading from a script that doesn’t sound the way he’d usually talk if left to his own devices. He’s been stuffed into an ill-fitting costume that doesn’t suit him. He’s found himself on a set that is totally foreign to him (check out that green glade that’s the backdrop for that sappy “Worldview” TV ad). He doesn’t belong in the House of Commons at all. He’s not a commoner, for Heaven’s sake.
He belongs in the hallowed halls of Hahvahd.
He’s outta here as soon as this whole fiasco’s over and my sense is, he’s hoping he loses. He doesn’t want this portfolio anymore and, I suspect, his wife can’t get out of Ottawa fast enough.
[end of quote]
The MSM is Iggy’s Invisibility Cloak, in fact, they act as any Liberal Party member’s invisibility cloak: total protection. You lie? No worries, say the apparatchiks at the CEEB and CTV. We’ve got you covered (by not covering the indiscretion, lie, doublespeak …).
But, if you belong to the Conservatives and you step out of line, look sideways, expose the Liberal lies for what they are, try to govern to the benefit of ALL the people and not just a small cabal of special interests, then, BAM!, we’ll blow you out of the water.
Oh, Canada! Banana Republic, anyone?
That link that Orville found is particularly damning.
Count Iggula is no more than Librano election fodder in the skirmishes with Harper. Keep the Boob powder dry to take on Harper 2.0.
Kate I still like my juxtapose idea: pet’s “zap you’re frozen”‘ vs iggy’s denial.
The reason is that this would not be the first time a liberal lied – flat-out on the biggest issue of a campaign in order to get elected. And pet is someone iggy idolized.
(On second thought perhaps my comparison isn’t exactly a juxtaposition)
Giggles all ’round for E. Spitzer.
Very Acorny joke, no?
Iggy say, We are not amused.
“Hot: Liberal Party pollster Michael Marzolini’s joke about the party’s massive prewrit ad buy provoked some groans and rolling of the eyes at the closed-door Liberal caucus retreat in Sudbury, Ont., last week: “I can’t say yet how much we’re paying for media time for our advertising campaign, but by far it is the most money spent by a Liberal for a half an hour since Eliot Spitzer .””
urlm.in/daeb
If you think the Canadian media is bad now, wait until the Second Coming of Trudeau.
Scorn and disgust for our media is a Canadian right of passage. At some point, usually much later in life, even Liberals somewhat begin to realize how utterly repulsive and detrimental to individual Canadians our media is.
Like most things in Canada, the opposite of advertised.

Denials, from any of them mean nothing…unfortunately….
If the Libs and NDP get a combined majority then there will be at least a 1972 style entente. It will be seen as legitimite…I am not endorsing, just saying what fuels the fire.
The Bloc was always the problem, and always will be the problem.
Not trying to whistle past the graveyard hear, but IF there is an election, and ROC is showing an even more solid support for the cons (a possibility) then dont be surprised to see a Quebec half turn, doube twist back flip and get more con seats. They are the savviest voters in the country, and they might be tired of all of this as well. The key to that is the jungle drums that beat through that society, sometimes below the surface.
Watch and see what noises Harper makes, he doesnt need a sweep, he only needs 5 or so more seats out of PQ if the ROC decides Harper gets it A for effort or Iggy gets a F for undewhelming.

On CTV’s Power Play Yesterday, a theme of Tom Clark’s line of questioning for his Tory guest (name escapes me) was to ask why, if Ignatieff says there will be no coalition, the Tories continue to assert there will be one. It’s as if for Tom that because it comes from Iggy‘s mouth it must be truth and gospel and the end of the matter. Compare that to accusations of Harper having a “hidden agenda”, to which Harper has denied yet is continually questioned on by MSM even all these years later. As for the CBC, I love how Milewski fills his reports with Liberal talking points — calling the video “The Harper Tape” — but the recording Kenney produced of the real Ignatieff is generically described by CBC as a tape with Ignatieff’s voice on it. One given a title with the design of keeping it squarely in the public domain for as long as they possibly can; the other not given a name so it can be quickly forgotten.
Liberals will have to explain to Canadians if what Iggy said yesterday, or last week, or last month or last year is no longer the party line or position. Canadians will need constant 24 hour updates to track the true (if there is one) or the latest revised version of the Liberal stance as this appears to be the new paradigm for conducting the Liberal policies and platform under the leadership of Iffy Ignatieff – Canadian politics will never be the same after this American pretender for Prime Minister is finished with the Liberal party. What a sad commentary of the Liberal party and the their MP’s who no longer have the backbone and integrity to treat the Canadian voter as something other than mushrooms.
Ig: “I was for a coalition before I was against it. No, wait, I was against a coalition before I was for it. Oh, hell, you know what I mean – I’m against anything where I’m not Prime Minister.”
It is starting to focus on will there be an election or not.
The ball is in the LPC/NDP court as far as that goes….if they don’t pull the trigger they are in the boondocks for a generation….
The CPC cannot trigger an election…
If an election occurs the possibility of the unpopular coalition will be the issue…..
The CBC must blindly back the LPC for their very survival….
The “Friends of CBC” has now blatantly morphed into an annex of the LPC.
All that remains to be decided is Lizzie May’s assessment of Canadians valid—are Canadian’s stupid….
She could be correct—after witnessing the recent events south of the 49th….
This is nothing new from the LIberal playbook.
Campaign promises are, um, forgotten or denied once the party is in power.
Par for the course to deny.
But that was in ancient history, when there was no videotape evidence.
Hey all you dumb people (h/t philboy). Who are you going to believe? Me, or your lying eyes and ears?
Iffy says no coalition if he wins government,
if PMSH wins, that’s another story for another day:
OTTAWA–In a bid to counter Tory attacks, Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff has declared he would not form a coalition with other opposition parties
if he forms a minority government in the next election…
However, when asked whether he excluded a coalition with the opposition parties if the result of an election were another Conservative minority,
Ignatieff called it a hypothetical question he didn’t “like.”
In French, he said he would seek to form a “good Liberal government, a government of the centre that looks for honourable compromises, that looks to inspire Canadians and to unite them.”

Poor Iggster. He just like Owebama is not his own man. He is just a narcissistic happy face glued on to the front of a very ugly liberal operations machine. I’m sure he wishes he had Owe’s teleprompters to tell him what to say. Of course Owe’s teleprompters are run by a cohesive group of backroomboys where Iggy’s teleprompter is run by a party at war with itself.
Were I to advise Iggy I would tell him to blow this Popsicle stand and head for Harvard. You’re in a no win situation.
Bring the vote faster please. Dial “M” for Majority!
A little bit of a minor storm in a tea cup lately. It seems that when Prime Minister Stephen Harper visited Sault Ste Marie, he addressed a closed meeting. He, of course, did not make any mistakes in his address, but spoke a little more tersely than he would have publically.
I am a little worried at the full quotes from the Sault Daily Star being given by me and an irate Liberal charging up to me, when at Hortons. (“I’ve been hearing some nasty things about you”). What I will do is to attibute my information to that worthy journal and “no names, no pack drill” (old British Army saying).
Seems that an astute young Liberal got an invite to the meeting. He then used a video phone to record the Prime Minister. We are told that his old college friend had given him a ticket. A Conservative friend. Now it went full public on television. A bit of a phoney outrage and “consternation”.
Liberals! (chuckle).

LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Federal Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff will need the support of the opposition parties this month to defeat the Conservative government.
If he wins a minority government victory after a fall election, he will still need their support to stay in power.
Why not save us all a lot of money and headache?
He could defeat the Conservatives, then ask the Governor General for permission to form a coalition government with the New Democrats and Bloc Quebecois.
Otherwise, he takes the risk that disgruntled Canadians may elect a Conservative majority (heaven forbid!).
Otherwise, it appears he’s more interested in regaining power for his party than in making government work.

Iffy: I recommend you run out an get the new Jay-Z album and find some “swagga like us” because right now you’ve got “99 problems and a bitch ain’t 1”.
Seriously though, the reason we’re in this predicament in the first place is because the people of Ontario continue to allow the Liberals to talk out of both sides of their mouths without consequences. I will go as far as saying that it is beyond doubt for all Canadians now that the Liberals aspirations are strictly political, and those political aspirations have a higher priority than the wellbeing of Canada and Canadians.
PMSH pulled the plug on Parliament in 2008 for the very same reason we appear to be going to the polls in 2009; because of the Liberals and their successful attempt to render Parliament dysfunctional.
It seems the people of Ontario have been given yet another chance to show some responsibility, and appreciation for our democratic institution by holding the Liberals accountable! Personally, I don’t see it happening; the Liberals reflect the views of the people that vote for them, there is no disconnect. The whole Canadian federal political landscape is defined by Ontarian’s and their entitlement to dictate and rule Canada!
People of Ontario: prove me wrong!
Vote Conservative or vote NDP, but don’t vote for the party that you know is lying to you! You cannot expect to have the respect of your peers (Canadians) when you do not even respect yourselves, your country and the people that laid their lives down so that you can mark an “X” on a piece of paper to have your say!
Just another poll and op ed that the Libs won’t like.
http://www.examiner.com/x-22884-Canada-Politics-Examiner~y2009m9d9-Voters-reject-the-Liberal-election-plan
More advise for Iffy:
Tell the truth! If the “two” or the “three” plan on joining forces after the election, do it before the election. This is the only honorable and true way to win this election; and, I honestly believe that if you all told the truth, you would win your majority! Why all the shenanigans?
Since the Libs enacted legislation to provide taxpayer funding to political parties during an election the level of commitment and integrity has gone downhill fast. End funding political parties during elections, let them grovel on our doorsteps like they use to. As it stands now their volunteers fan out but the MPs rarely grace us with their godly presense.
Iggy is as trust worthy as a pathological liar, he’s lusting for the PM chair and he’ll do what ever he has to to get it. He’ll just rename a coalition a Union of leftwingers or something akin.

Snippet: OTTAWA — The Liberal party is under fire for offending Canadian soldiers with a flyer depicting a tattered Maple Leaf on a rucksack with the words “We used to wear it abroad with pride.”
The partisan pamphlets — known as “10-percenters” — were greeted with outrage as they arrived in mailboxes in the Maritimes this week, including the New Brunswick riding where CFB Gagetown has sent members to fight and die in Afghanistan wearing the Canadian flag.

Real Classy libs, insulting all Canadians and infering we aren’t good enough nor is our flag. I know where I’d like to stick the flag pole.
Notice how Ignatieff repudiates a coalition, though on condition that he gets minority government status after the next election.
He doesn’t want to talk about a coalition should Conservatives retain minority status. He doesn’t mention anything about a minority Grit government.
He signed onto the coalition and now tries to deny it, so there’s no credibility on this anyway.
The Maher article is bang on. The Tories know it too, and they are going to go for the throat on this one. Ignatieff wants to force an election without a defining issue while giving one to Harper.
Oh BTW Mr Ignatieff, you can drop the “the fact that I’m not PM today proves I was against the coalition.” Nice try – except for the obvious fact that, had he tried, there would have been an election, courtesy of GG.
This is rich. I can’t help thinking Grits will wake up and stop pushing for an election.
It would be great, especially with Jack and Gilles in tow. Yes, Jack on CTV today, telling us what “Canadians want” (of whom over 80% don’t vote NDP). He still doesn’t understand where his vote is (hint: Liberal), instead ranting on about a bully PM and evil corporations, while calling others intolerant.
And Gilles? He’s our assurance of a short-lived coalition/minority centre left-moonbat left government as a worst case scenario.
Ignatieff is tied inexorably to those two, despite his denials and indignation (and coded language too). This should be good, election or liberal retreat/bailout. Both scenarios sound like fun.

“The Telegraph-Journal apologizes to Monsignor Brian Henneberry
In its troubled report on the communion service at former governor general Roméo LeBlanc’s funeral mass in July, The Telegraph-Journal said prominently, on the front page, that Monsignor Brian Henneberry, a senior Saint John priest, had “demanded” that Prime Minister Stephen Harper explain what he had done with the communion wafer that he had been given. The newspaper has determined that Monsignor Henneberry said no such thing and believes that the false assertion was wholly the product of improper editorial manipulation.
The newspaper has concluded that the sensational manner in which it presented its interview with Monsignor Henneberry resulted in a serious distortion of his actual remarks which were otherwise competently reported. Monsignor Henneberry’s intent was simply to explain Roman Catholic belief and practice in a factual way after The Telegraph-Journal contacted him. It was not to accuse Prime Minister Harper of wrong-doing or to insinuate wrong-doing.
The Telegraph-Journal regrets this breach of journalistic principles and apologizes sincerely to Monsignor Henneberry for it.”

That’s exactly what I’m talking about. The two largest national media are absolutely abetting Ignatieff’s cynical lies to the Canadian public. There is *zero* chance that Clark, or the diligent reporter “CTV.ca News Staff” are unaware of the events of last December and January, or of Ignatieff’s subsequent statements. Every single Liberal MP, including Michael Ignatieff, signed a coalition agreement; much later, Ignatieff said – publicly, and on videotape – “I am prepared to form a coalition government, and to lead that government.” But then yesterday, Ignatieff said “In January, we did not support a coalition. And we do not support a coalition today or tomorrow…”
Now, read this CTV.ca piece, and note how they’re agnostic on the matter, which is essentially treated as a little “he said/she said” matter of disagreement between the Conservatives and the Liberals.
To use Kate’s phrase, that’s media malpractice. Like I said, even though I’m fully aware and have been for years about the ongoing bias I still find it a bit of a jaw-dropper that CBC and CTV, in the face of this absolute lie by the Liberal leader about the events surrounding a — quite recent – mini-constitutional crisis, would put on sunglasses, turn the other way, and start whistling. It’s just so *blatant.*
Btw, here’s Ignatieff yesterday:
“I have a certain credibility on the coalition issue.”
Sadly, he DOES have “a certain” credibility, entirely thanks to the deliberate non-diligence of CBC and CTV.
