Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, for your delectation, here are Henry Mancini and the Terry Gibbs orchestra, featuring Pete Candoli, Conte Candoli, Carl Fontana, Jerome Richardson, and Plas Johnson, performing the Peter Gunn Theme ¤ in 1983 (4:23).
Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.

Long time since I heard that theme song! Used it when choreographing routines way back when. Thanks for that stroll down memory lane.

How many of you recall Guantanamo Prisoner Omar Khadr? Remember the cute photo that CBC flashed all over the world, that innocent 14 year old boy look, the big brown eyes and the “Please I’m innocent” look.
Now go to Cbc.Ca, and check out the photo in connection to the story of convicted terrorist and bomb maker Saad Khalid.
Khalid was a member of the Toronto 18 terrorist gang, he was sentenced to 14 years in prison for having plotted a terrorist attack on Bay Street in Toronto.
Is it coincidence that the CBC is using a similar “juvenille” look on Khalid? A photo that’s most likely a decade old.
Question: Who’s side is the CBC on anyway??

Continuing in my series about how hard it is for the Conservatives to break through the biased French and English media in Quebec, last night’s Téléjournal news report on the election went all negative on Harper. It was carefully edited so that Harper was seen as the one unwilling to compromise and the one who will be responsible for any election. Layton and Rae came off smelling like roses. The chief political commentator didn’t blame Iggy at all.
Nicola, do you have a reference or URL? My GF hates it when I accuse the MSM of bias against Harper.

Anyone sight “”rapid response**” Liberal Kinsella’s response on “King Lear-gate”?
…-
“King Lear-gate: What did Ignatieff see, and when did he see it?”
“In a profile of Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff, Canadian expat Adam Gopnik followed the Canadian ex-expat to Stratford, Ontario. Ignatieff later revealed to the Goppers that: “Seeing William Hutt do King Lear [at Stratford] in 1964 was one of the three or four shaping experiences of my life; I don’t think I’ve ever written a book without mentioning Lear.”
“There’s only one problem with Ignatieff’s story and that’s that William Hutt didn’t play King Lear at Stratford in 1964. John Colicos played King Lear at Stratford in 1964. Hutt didn’t play Lear at Stratford until 1972.
So, Mr. Ignatieff, the Canadian public deserves to know: Did you get the Lear wrong or the year wrong?
I have an email in to the OLOcats and will let you know what response I get back.”

Obama is currently at -11…and the decline is obviously steady when you look at the graph.
“How low can you go?” Obama the Limbo King!
It looks like Obama brownshirts ( or are they Soros Storm troops?) are getting nasty with seniors criticizing the boss. Any way this pinkie biting cannibal was with MoveOn.org Obamac theosophists and although I have always considered them ‘anal’ it appears they also have oral fixations as well.
“Healthcare reform activist bites off fingertip of 65-year-old man, authorities say
September 3, 2009
Authorities today are searching for a healthcare reform activist who they said bit off the fingertip of a 65-year-old man during a fight at a MoveOn.org rally in Thousand Oaks.
“It all started with their difference in philosophy over healthcare reform,” said Senior Deputy Eric Buschow of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.
The incident occurred about 7 p.m. Wednesday at a “We Can’t Afford to Wait Vigil” organized by affiliates of the activist group MoveOn.org, which drew supporters of President Obama’s healthcare plan, Buschow said. The rally also attracted several counter-protesters, he said. ”

Another call for common values by G&M columnist Marcus Gee, this time concerning the co-existence of cyclists and drivers in the big city:
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/canada-is-no-bike-lane-utopia/article1275409/
“… To survive, they need common rules, a code of etiquette, a sense of tolerance.
“That is what we are lacking in the fraught interaction between two wheels and four. Though they travel side by side, cyclists and motorists seem to inhabit separate, hostile, uncomprehending worlds. In city streets, they almost literally bump up against each other. Somehow, we have learn to bump along together.”
So, how are common rules, a code of etiquette, and a sense of tolerance going to be transmitted to cyclists and motorists? Better yet, WHO is going to transmit them?
The impetus to be civil is not built into our humanity; it has to be taught, over and over and over. It is most effectively inculcated when people are very young, by parents for the most part.
But since our society has insisted on the whole-sale removal of children from their familial homes – all the better for government coffers – we have epidemic numbers of children who grow up to be “adults” (well, at least, not children anymore) with no sense of civility, compassion, or tolerance towards others.
The chickens are coming home to roost and, sadly, we’re going to see increasing Sheppard/Bryant incidents in our cityscape. Heck, I suspect they’re happening more than we know, just not involving high-profile individuals like Michael Bryant.
To be surprised is disingenuous. We’ve created this particular monster.
I woke up this morning with this thought:
THE LIBERAL$ ARE WILLING TO DESTABILIZE A WHOLE COUNTRY, IN ORDER TO GET THEIR GUY BACK INTO 24 SUSSEX DRIVE.
In the meantime, Bob Rae goes back to his tony Toronto Baby Point address, not in the least worried about his portfolio. Between him and his wife’s resources (she’s a Perly of the Perly Maps family), they’ll be just fine.
But, what about the rest of us, Mr. Rae?
PARDON? What’s that you just said?
Then, I read this comment by Norman Spector in the G&M this morning:
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/blogs/spector-vision/its-not-a-game/article1274200/
“In the past few days, as talk has turned to a fall election, we’ve heard a lot about the Liberals’ strategy as well as their tactics in an upcoming campaign. Aside from the odd editorial, however, much less has been said about what’s best for the country. And, out here in Victoria where I live, we hardly hear or see or read anything that points to how a fall election will help ordinary Canadians in their daily lives.”
Yeah, what about us ordinary Canadians, Mr. Rae, Mr. Ignatieff, Mr. Layton?
Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his cPc seem to be the only federal party taking care of business FOR US. I hope Canadians figure this out if we’re forced into another election this fall.

You (and Globe columnist Gee) are spinning the Bryant incident into something it isn’t.
Much as I despise what a politician like Bryant has stood for, there is no evidence to suggest his public behaviour has ever been anything less than civil.
I’m certain he has lovely table manners and doesn’t purposely fart in elevators.
But just how tolerant and civil do you expect him — or anyone else — to be when they are physically attacked by a violent psychotic, with their wife in the car?
batb: “So, how are common rules, a code of etiquette, and a sense of tolerance going to be transmitted to cyclists and motorists? Better yet, WHO is going to transmit them?”
Most people have learned this quite naturally by the time they are adults. However, a small minority need to have a “code of etiquitte and sense of tolerance” transmitted
to their brains by means of a lug wrench, liberally applied to their skulls. That fact may not be very appealing to you, but that’s the way it’s been since before we crawled
down from our trees, and will probably still be that way next Wednesday.

The August US unemployment numbers are out and unsurprisingly, Porkulus still isn’t working. The now familiar graph is at

Apparently this is good news:
“US unemployment rate jumps to 26-year high of 9.7%”
Via Instapundit.
This is in the same vein as when Gordo Campbell, of BC premier fame, stood at overpriced convention centre in Vancouver stating that at $ 800,000,000, the he is actually saving peoples money because they put a turf on the roof of this building. There is more to come so far as costs.
The original cost was supposed to be somewhere @ $ 200,000,000.
One wanders if the population of BC are really that stupid that don’t know the difference or maybe don’t care. It maybe though sense of helplessness. Who do you vote for? Right now the current case is “really bad” and alternative is “worse”.
It does seem that politicians live in a parallel universe, sort of lotus land.

If you’re not reading Doctor Zero at Hot Air’s Green Room, you’re missing some excellent essays. His latest, The Right to Everything, is no exception.
“The Left became preoccupied with “positive rights” over the last century. The edifice of socialism is built on the idea that people who lack the necessities of life are not truly “free.” What good is the freedom of speech to someone weak from hunger? What use is the right of free association, when you’re dying of a contagious disease? If you accept the proposition that freedom from want is a pre-requisite for enjoying all other forms of freedom, the modern liberal world-view becomes much easier to understand. It should also be easy to understand why those who believe themselves deprived of those basic necessities would find this an appealing argument.
These “positive rights” are not a precursor to the rights described in the American Constitution. The whole concept is implacably hostile to the Constitution. The “right” to food, health care, a job, or the other staples of the socialist menu can only exist in the absence of individual rights. Most fundamentally, the State can only provide benefits to some by violating the property rights of others. This crucial concept of progressive taxation on individual income is based on the idea that the State has a moral right to confiscate and re-distribute resources, which transcends any individual citizen’s right to his own property.”
Frankly, rg, I wasn’t actually commenting on Michael Bryant’s behaviour, in particular. I was commenting on the general lack of civility on city streets, Toronto in particular, seeing as I live here.
I drive Toronto streets every day and am struck by how discourteous pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists are: walking/riding/driving through red lights, riding bikes on sidewalks, riding bikes the wrong way down one-way streets, riding bikes across pedestrian crosswalks, not signalling one’s intentions, etc., etc. The list could go on and on.
If, as you say, “Most people have learned this [common rules, a code of etiquette, and a sense of tolerance] quite naturally by the time they are adults, how come the lack thereof is so glaring every time I hit a Toronto street? How come I could rack up an infraction against common rules, a code of etiquette, and a sense of tolerance a couple of times a minute?
This is not hyperbole. I’m aghast at the disregard for our traffic laws on the part of so many, and drive with great caution on account of it.
My question is, Where are the cops? How come they’re not out in full force, enforcing traffic safety laws? How come I’ve never seen a police officer handing out a ticket to a dangerous cyclist? How come they only ticket motorists? How come I see them in public only at construction sites?
Mayor Miller needs to get his police officers enforcing traffic safety in this city, with heavy fines for infractions on the part of pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists … but I’m not holding my breath.
Thanks to the Cons, you ponied up more than $13 billion to bail out the pension plans of selected voters. Your nationalized car company ain’t doing so well it seems.

Toyota, Honda pull away from long-time leader in `shocking’ changes

Business Reporter
Canada’s consumer car market is changing dramatically as Toyota and Honda pull away from long-time leader General Motors, whose share excluding fleet business has now plunged by almost half since 2005.
Meanwhile, Ford and Chrysler, the other two Big Three North American-based automakers, have fallen out of the top five passenger-car sellers to consumers in the country this year, according to statistics from DesRosiers Automotive Consultants.
Chrysler, which held 7.8 per cent of the car market in 2005, has slid to less than 3 per cent and dropped to 10th place behind Mazda, Nissan, Volkswagen, Hyundai and even its South Korean cousin, Kia, during the first six months of this year. ….”

any gardeners out there?

and speaking of GM, silly me, in 1985 I had the audacity to fill out a job application at their st catharines plants. right there on the application, as rare as it is at other big time employers, “do you know anyone presently employed at General Motors”. it’s all true, I thought to myself. you have to know someone to get inside this outfit. PM Harper scores again.
…-
“Premier/Ambassador Doer Adopts New Climate Stance
Before any public knowledge that outgoing NDP Manitoba Premier would soon be Canada’s Ambassador to the US Gary Doer changed his ‘policy’ on climate change.
In his speech to the August 2009 national NDP convention in Halifax, Nova Scotia Mr. Doer (who was the first Canadian government leader to endorse the Kyoto Protocol), outlined his new position for the Copenhagen global climate change agreement.
While talking about reducing greenhouse gas emissions being “a good thing” Mr. Doer went on to say, “And whether it is the World Trade Organization, the Canada-US trading relationship or the issues of trade in Copenhagen, it will be very important that we do not have a ‘Trojan Horse’ that eliminates jobs in North America and jobs in Canada in the guise of Climate Change because India and China are not scoped in on an equal basis.”
This argument was traditionally used by the Bush administration – and continues to be supported by Canada’s current government.
Canada and the US continue to advocate that China and India take on binding emission cuts despite no binding emission reductions in North American climate policy.”

Prime Minister Stephen Harper isn’t from Quebec, and he’s not part of the Power Corporation Cabal or a Demarais Boy.
I guess Mr. Duceppe takes both of these non-attributes against Mr. Harper. That’s fine. But for a lot of Canadians, Mr. Harper’s not being from Quebec and not being a Power Corp puppet is a big plus.
