A few quick thoughts….
Two of these “good ol boy” wannabe’s are recent transplants from Toronto.

They should not be held responsible for their actions.
For all their lives the CBC, Toronto Star and urban politicians have painted for them a stereotype of Saskatchewan that told them that driving around and shooting things is our number one sport after bale stacking.
Moving to Saskatchewan was their best CBC Redneck Wet Dream – a fact underlined today in a quote captured by Rawlco Radio’s Tammy Roberts – “We didn’t know the laws in your country”.
We can’t blame them for that, just as we shouldn’t blame the CBC reporters roaming the prairie countryside today looking for a grain elevator – any grain elevator – to satisfy the producers demands for the duck murder news broadcast tonight…

“For all their lives CBC producers, the Toronto Star and urban politicians have painted for them a stereotype of Saskatchewan that told them that driving around and shooting things is our number one sport after bale stacking.”
Cow tipping! You forgot cow tipping!
Finally, a story that truly merits national media attention.
The only good things EVER to come out of Toronto are the 4 lane highways heading out east and west!
This will learn them good. Out here in knuckle dragging country,it is frowned upon to shoot guns from your vehicles, unlike certain parts of Toronto. But really ,this incident is getting way too much play. They were ducks, nuisance to many and dinner to some. It is not like one of those ducklings was going to grow up to write a symphony,or become POTUS. On the other hand, stranger things have happened.
geez for a second I thought they were coming out of the hospital after being moved to the head of the line for a liver transplant.
livin’ large
Dufusses from Toronto don’t realize that we out west are environmentally conscious. We eat what we shoot, not like downtown Toronto. We don’t drive around shooting like downtown Toronto. We don’t cheer just because we see blood like in downtown Toronto. And finally, the guns we own are registered not like downtown Toronto.
So it is quite plausible that they didn’t know the laws of our country since we are law abiding citizens, not like downtown Toronto.
Are Ducks different than Gophers?
CBCpravda doesnt say they are from Trona so it cant be true
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/saskatchewan/story/2009/08/10/bird-shooters.html
They sure are, gophers tend to be much more suicidal.
natives do this all the time, they just dont video tape it .
“Are Ducks different than Gophers?”
…*keeping lips zipped*
Back to reality; how in hell did these guys get their hands on firearms without being fully informed of their responsibilities and the Hunting regs. of Sask.? One would assume their firearms have been confiscated?
Time to open up Immigrant Education Camps for everyone arriving from Liberal dominated regions.
Just heard a minute of Adler. Some guy, a president of some wildlife/hunting association was sounding off, like someone just raped his sister. This is getting ridiculous.
This needs to put into perspective. A hunter picks up a gun. Bang, dead bird. These clowns pick up a gun. Bang, dead bird. How can one version be an honourable way of life, and the other be an evil act? It makes no sense. The hunter’s prey are just as dead, and suffered the same violent end.
I used to carry a 22 at work. I shot thousands of gophers while I was supposed to be working. Some of my co-workers would shoot mud ducks, and I probably shot a few, as well. I seem to remember a couple of guys, who could hit them on the wing, occasionally, with a 22. Every farm kid used to shoot magpies, and crows. When I was a kid in the maritimes, I was encouraged to shoot porcupines, and other pests.
The way this is playing out, I can see the pest population getting unmanageable. The deer population in some towns is already out of control. Coyotes roam cities, eating cats, dogs, and the occasional toddler. There’s very little an unarmed public can do about it.
I didn’t like the way these guys giggled and pissed themselves over killing something, but there’s no reason to throw them in jail. Take away their guns, and their video camera, and leave it at that.
If they’d learned about guns at a younger age, they wouldn’t have acted like that.
I fail to see how CBC, the Toronto Star or any MSM is responsible for these three individuals actions, one of whom I might add is from rural Saskatchewan. Idiots are idiots.
For all their lives CBC producers, the Toronto Star and urban politicians have painted for them a stereotype of Saskatchewan that told them that driving around and shooting things is our number one sport after bale stacking
A stereotype re-enforced by the comments found here on any given day.
I bet these guys post here all the time.
I’m sure their mothers are very proud.
Let’s be honest here..
Does anyone think a redneck from western Canada would be dumb enough to do this, post it on the internet, then claim “we didn’t know it was illegal”?
Only someone from urban Toronna would think that.
When elitism and idiocy collide, this is just one of the many results.
Isn’t there a rocket to the sun we can put these people in?
welcome to Canuckistan’s legal cystem. and yes, note the spelling.
I don’t see what the big deal is. It’s not like the were water-boarding the little mutha duckers.
Shooting a rifle into water, especially at low angles, is not a safe activity. They are lucky they didn’t hurt some innocent bystander a mile away.
Lock them up before they kill again !
Great point guys.
I believe the western media should approach this as a “Toronto Style Execution”. After all, we hunt here out west; and, we don’t shoot from moving automobiles.
How many ducks do wind turbines kill? I’m not condoning what these idiots did but I bet turbines kill more birds on a daily basis.
Bob Nichol…I bet you support wind power don’t cha?
Yes, rimcTX, Their worst crime was unsafe use of firearms. A bullet will skip over water, and shooting from a car is not a good idea. I used to do things like that, but not for a long time, probably a month or more.
I’ve known many, many young guys, who weren’t much different from these fellows. I’ve seen a few who made sport of shooting at people. I’ve known a few that made sport of having their way with young girls they picked up on the street. I knew a couple who thought breaking into houses was a real thrill. I knew some who liked to set fires.
These boys don’t even register on the scale, when it comes to anti-social behaviour.
I don’t see what the big deal is. It’s not like they were water-boarding the little mutha duckas.
fixed

Why are we going around and around about this issue when the facts are THEY BROKE THE LAW and advertised it. Ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law. Lets just get on with our so called justice system.
“Are Ducks different than Gophers?”
Yes .

……. that and ducks eat better .
In my humble opinion, as somebody who knows something about shooting at things with firearms and slightly more serious weapons, this incident illustrates beautifully the dangers inherent in raising people to treat guns as either toys or as inscrutable mysteries, instead of as what they are: precisely, often beautifully, machined devices for ending life.
The first credo of the hunter (or the soldier) is responsibility. That’s where these morons deserve an ass-kicking. Not 6 months in the slammer; not a $300k fine. A couple dozen hours community service (maybe in a hospital emergency room dealing with gunshot wounds, if there is one in SK) and a mandatory firearms safety course (that they should pay for, natch).
At the very least they seem to have demonstrated the proper reaction for a normal person when he does something dangerously stupid, which is to start shaking and think, “Jeebus, that was dangerously stupid.” I think they’re salvageable. I can’t say the same for the fulminating leftards who are trying to make hay out of this incident while studiously ignoring the…ahhh, markedly ethnic component to the seemingly interminable string of illegal handgun shootings in Hogtown.
If guns are outlawed, only Torontonians will have guns. And I thought Ogabe was scary.
DN exactly, rednecks like us think guns are tools, urbanites think guns are toys.
someone should ask the 3 stooges what it is they think they can kill with a gun is. “We didn’t understand the rules – we didnt know it was illegal
What was the punishment and fine for Syncrude for allowing ducks to die. Give these guys the same deal.
Hope they nail them with perjury too, all these infractions are illegal in Ontario also. TO is a no gun zone so scratrch the formal hunter firearm safety training there, no shooting rules in the hood.
Migratory bird regs are federal an universal across the provinces – no rifles – in season only – no wasted game – no discharge from a vehicle.
I think these squids display the typical irresponsible urban brain dead behaviour we can find in any large city. So it’s more or a rural-urban culture riff rather than east-west.
Tells us who the the real rednecks are.
“Fraser recently moved to Saskatchewan from Toronto. He blames his action on ignorance.”
Well, it explains why Taliban Jack, David Miller and the rest of the liberal, lefty crew get elected in TO: IGNORANCE!
I suspected from the start of this story .. when the post should up on yootoob … that the guys would turn out to be urban squids.
can’t be a western rednicks – we’s two stewpud to no how to run a cammerruh.
Can we deport these guys back to Toronto?
Should???? …. Showed ….
Kesler I followed your link about the east west thing. Wow. As a Westerner I really felt the love from toronto/ontario. Think I need a shower.
Those guys aren’t from Toronto; if they were they’d be wearing 3/4 length capri shorts, thong sandals, a tight ladies cut t-shirt with a shoulder bag like so many of the sissies I regularly see downtown.
They shot some ducks, big friggin’ deal.
Now if they plugged some Canada geese, I’d be buying them a beer.
For the life of me I can’t remember ever saying a disparaging remark about anything or anyone in Saskatchewan. I thought they were by and large, the same as us.
You know, the ones fighting the good fight, the daily battle against leftists and the huge messes they make.
Those of us fighting that fight in Ontario would have hoped to have had you as allies in that process. I didn’t realize the obvious hate displayed by many posters here.
Painting any province with a brush as wide as some here, uncovers an ugly face. Reasonable men would avoid these base prejudices.
Move West …. get an education!
The bor-in-law and younger twit just got nailed 5 grand fine apiece.Guy practicing his best drive-by shooting TO style got 6 grand fine. That’s it.
Those fines are outrageous. The fines are a direct result of the outrage in the media, mostly by the media and the bleeding heart latte sippers.I would think that a minor, but stupid crime, like this should have been a few hundred in fines and 80 hours or so community work, preferably with animals or hunters. This judge was under the spotlight so he acted tough, what a bunch of horse hooey.
I smell a provocation, carefully planned in order to discredit the gun owners’ slogan regarding ‘duck hunters’. Just as there are hints to election. Too much of a coincidence.
At the marina where I moor my boat (Vancouver area), we have a number of ducks. Personally I enjoy watching and interracting with them, they perch on the swim platform of my boat frequently. Although with three bald eagle nests nearby, as the season proceeds, they become fewer and fewer.
I have no objection to legitimate hunting, but have serious objections to a bunch of yahoos killing something for purely gratuitous purposes (or no purposes at all).
I would love to see the courts throw the book at these a$$holes…
Looks like Target Practice to me.
Instead of a fine I think the judge should have ordered them deported back to Torawna.
