Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, for your delectation, here is the great John Scott Whiteley performing Johann Sebastian Bach‘s Wedge Fugue in E minor, BWV 548 (8:24), on the Zacharias Hildebrandt organ in the Wenzelskirche in Naumburg, Germany (which Bach played and probably helped design).
The Wenzelskirche organ was Hildebrandt’s largest, featuring three manuals and pedal, fifty-three stops, and a thirty-two foot Posaunenbass pipe with a principal harmonic frequency of sixteen hertz. It was built in 1746 and restored from 1993 to 2000.
There a multiple cameras located inside the organ in this performance, some good shots of the thousands of pipes hidden inside the organ, and some, how shall we say, interesting visual wedge effects. Mmm, mmm; thanks, John.
Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.

I started wondering – pre-electricity – how were the bellows filled? Interesting that, including the role of the calcant – whose job it was to fill the bellows whilst the organist played
Many of us have seen the news clips, or on YouTube, the 3 white youths baiting a black man in a small Vancouver Island community. This has raised the spectre of racism, and expectedly so considering that racial epithets were used against the victim. I haven’t heard just what they were, but presumably refer to the negroid side of the man.
I say presumably because, like B. Obama, he is half-
white. This of course has given the media to wonder if this will be prosecuted as a hate-crime. Now it is surely hateful for 3 to attack 1, and in fact they did the same thing later to another white youth. In my view it would be ridiculous to charge them with a “hate-
crime, based on race as it is my belief that racial hatred comes from being steeped in it. These 3 are too young and too stupid to even know true racism. In fact, it has been my experience that young men and women act sickeningly obsequious around black males. (But that discussion is for another day). Had it been me instead of him, I would probably have been called a bald headed old man or a silly old bugger, whatever it takes to get my goat the quickest. I have been called a dumb Dogan and a honkey by people who know nothing about the terms. What is most disturbing is that today’s youth (of all colours) think nothing of swarming a single victim. In my time you would have been severely ostracized for such conduct. We had a saying “Two against one is blankety-blank fun”. We didn’t know what we were doing either.
How were the bellows filled, pre-electricity, Erik? Well, the bellows were filled with air. No, wait, wait, stop hitting me đ Yeah, actually, up to a dozen people pumped foot-bellows to fill the windchests (it’s the windchests that are the fillees, the bellows are the fillers), and, indeed, the timing and placement of the organ pieces within the mass in the 17th and 18th centuries was specifically designed to allow the calcants to recuperate between tunes.
If you’re further interested, Erik, I (as a student of the device, that is to say as an engineer, not as an operator) have found that the Wikipedia Pipe Organ page, and it’s reference links, are actually not too a bad place at all to start reading further. And while I don’t want to get too far off topic, I will say that I do think that Bach, because of his German Baroque pipe organ design and metallurgy work, as well as his related music theory, composition, and performance skills, is the greatest classical musician ever, much as I think that Louis Armstrong is the greatest modern musician (although, obviously, for different reasons).
If you are interested in how the wind-chests are filled
in a modern super-organ, here is some audio of the three

Your Majesty, you’re joking, right? RIGHT?!
I really did a double-take yesterday when I noticed the Globe and Mail’s front page headlines, which referred to Obama being fresh back to the US after his “overseas triumphs.” That’s not hyperbole; it’s sheer make-believe.
Contrast that with a comment in Doyle McManus’s July 12 article “The End of Obamania” in the LA Times (http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-mcmanus12-2009jul12,0,7010231.column): “That’s not to say the trip was a bust; it wasn’t. But it was far from a triumph …” McManus reflects the views of people who actually have to live with Obama’s policies — one reason for the wide difference between Obama’s approval ratings in Canada and the US.

(PDF warning; via SWJ) Gilles Dorronsoro, The Taliban’s Winning Strategy in Afghanistan
A misunderstanding of the insurgency is at the heart of the difficulties facing the International Coalition in Afghanistan. The Taliban are often described as an umbrella movement comprising loosely connected groups that are essentially local and unorganized. On the contrary, this reportâs analysis of the structure and strategy of the insurgency reveals a resilient adversary, engaged in strategic planning and coordinated action.
The Taliban are a revolutionary movement, deeply opposed to the Afghan tribal system and focused on the rebuilding of the Islamic Emirate. Their propaganda and intelligence are efficient, and the local autonomy of their commanders in the field allow them both flexibility and cohesion. They have made clever use of ethnic tensions, the rejection of foreign forces by the Afghan people, and the lack of local administration to gain support in the population. In so doing the Taliban have achieved their objectives in the South and East of the country, isolating the Coalition, marginalizing the local Afghan administration, and establishing a parallel administration (mainly to dispense Sharia justice and collect taxes). In recent months, a more professional Taliban have succeeded in making significant inroads by recruiting from non-Pashtun communities…

Right now, every one seems busy asking “how”, “what”, “where” and “when” but I have now reached the stage of “WHY”.
-Why is the power structure/judicial system/media all silent/ignoring this issue, even to the point they are kept from even commenting/reporting/debunking it?
My best answer is that Barry Soetoro aka Barrack Hussein Obama has been pre selected and put in place of power via a now bogus democratic system.
-Why?
Because the United States is financially bankrupt.
Barry’s ‘mission’ is to bring the world to a ‘reset’ by deliberately destroying what’s left of the economic engine of the world (USA).
To have stuck to non government intrusion and let the private financial/corporate institutions correct themselves and go into a painful depression until leading into possible world conflicts (aka 1929 to 1945) was not an option.
The “masterminds” want to bypass this and skip that period. The mass of people with financial savings/investments are the targets.
Destroy the world economies by putting every nation in the same boat as world economies are so inter dependant now and start from scratch again. Push the reset bottom.
Obama was the perfect ‘blueprint’ for this: A hard core socialist. He’s just a useful tool.
Terry tory – the problem with your economic theory is its complexity. There are too many ‘if’s’ and ‘possibles’; that is, too many required links and connections with other issues.
A basic axiom of any valid theory is its simplicity – the famous Ockham axiom.
Charles Macdonald – the description of the Taliban sounds quite similar to the Mafia and gang Organizations in various countries around the world. Note that this means that the Taliban will move out of ideology (the socialist ideology of total control) and into basic economic illegal cartels.
Very similar to what happened in C. America when the marxist ideology fell apart and the ‘socialist revolutionaries’ moved into drug running, kidnapping and extortion as an economic lifestyle.

JERUSALEM (JTA) — President Obama stressed the importance of remembering slavery to the importance of remembering the Holocaust, according to the CNN Web site.
“It’s one of those things that you don’t forget about,” Obama told CNN in an interview scheduled to air Monday on “Anderson Cooper 360,” according to a report on the Web site.
Obama gave the interview over the weekend while visiting the African country of Ghana, once a major slave trading center.
“I think it’s important that the way we think about it, the way it’s taught, is not one in which there’s simply a victim and a victimizer, and that’s the end of the story,” the president said. “I think the way it has to be thought about, the reason it’s relevant, is whether it’s what’s happening in Darfur or what’s happening in the Congo or what’s happening in too many places around the world, the capacity for cruelty still exists.”
Obama called his visit to Cape Coast Castle, a slavery dungeon, “reminiscent of the trip I took to Buchenwald,” a German Nazi death camp. “It reminds us of the capacity of human beings to commit great evil,” he said.”

It’s not that I doubt the claim that they use a quarter as much energy as regular incandescent light bulbs and last many times longer……..The bulbs contain a tiny amount of mercury, a cause of birth defects and harm to the nervous system, kidneys and the liver. If I were to paraphrase the ministry’s startling advice, you’d think I was making it up, so I’ll quote extensively.
In the event a bulb breaks:
“Ventilate the room for at least 15 minutes, prior to starting cleanup, by opening windows.” “Do not use a vacuum to clean up the initial breakage, as it will spread the mercury vapour and dust throughout the area and may contaminate the vacuum. “Wear disposable gloves, if available, to avoid direct contact with mercury.”
“Scoop or sweep up the broken pieces and debris with two pieces of stiff paper or cardboard. Do not use a broom.” And, finally…:
“Use sticky tape, such as duct tape or masking tape, to pick up any remaining fine glass or powder.”

‘Topsoil’ Stelmach has done nothing conservative since winning.
He’s expanded the size of provincial government to the largest per capita in the country, run years of surpluses straight right into a black hole, screwed up oil & gas royalties, and is giving $2 billion to the connected backroom boys in the ‘hide the carbon scam’ known as sequestration.
He’s the Stephane Dion of Alberta, a third place accident at the leadership convention.
The sooner he’s gone, the better for Alberta…..
……Many Albertans know this is a problem. And they’ve been speaking out about it for some time now. So much so that in 2006, one Tory party leadership candidate made a promise to address it, saying: “Shipping raw bitumen is like scraping off the topsoil, selling it, and thinking we have a rich farm because we have cash in the bank.”
He even pointed out the obvious, “Once it’s gone, it’s gone for good.”
While campaigning, he talked about increasing the amount of bitumen upgraded in the province. That candidate’s name was, of course, Ed Stelmach.
But when he became premier, nothing happened on the raw bitumen exports file. Then value-added processing was included within the scope of Alberta’s recent royalty review.
The government’s own hand-picked panel surprised everyone with its recommendations, which included a rebate on royalties for processing in-province.
However, Premier Stelmach’s government chose to ignore that recommendation, instead promising vague action sometime in the future.
Still, nothing happened on the raw bitumen exports file.
Then the news came out last month that the Clipper pipeline was approved, and possibly 18,000 jobs would flow down to the United States. Many voices said the government should do something.
Still nothing happened….”

Obama has his own Dr. Strangelove
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1939256/is_john_holdren_obamas_dr_strangelove.html
“According to the website Zombietime, Holdren, along with Paul Ehlrich, author of the 1968 book The Population Bomb, made the following recommendations:
“Women could be forced to abort their pregnancies, whether they wanted to or not;
“The population at large could be sterilized by infertility drugs intentionally put into the nation’s drinking water or in food;
“Single mothers and teen mothers should have their babies seized from them against their will and given away to other couples to raise;
People who “contribute to social deterioration” (i.e. undesirables) ‘can be required by law to exercise reproductive responsibility’ — in other words, be compelled to have abortions or be sterilized.
“A transnational “Planetary Regime” should assume control of the global economy and also dictate the most intimate details of Americans’ lives — using an armed international police force.”
My my, this sounds remarkably like mid 30’s Malthusian eugenics championed by Tommy Douglas, Marg Sanger and the German national socialists. Interesting that the Obama regime is also thinking of enforcing compulsory injections of an untested potentially lethal flu vaccine.

“Palin takes a stand in WaPo â blasts cap and trade
By Sarah Palin
Tuesday, July 14, 2009
There is no shortage of threats to our economy. Americaâs unemployment rate recently hit its highest mark in more than 25 years and is expected to continue climbing. Worries are widespread that even when the economy finally rebounds, the recovery wonât bring jobs. Our nationâs debt is unsustainable, and the federal governmentâs reach into the private sector is unprecedented.
Unfortunately, many in the national media would rather focus on the personality-driven political gossip of the day than on the gravity of these challenges. So, at risk of disappointing the chattering class, let me make clear what is foremost on my mind and where my focus will be:
I am deeply concerned about President Obamaâs cap-and-trade energy plan, and I believe it is an enormous threat to our economy. It would undermine our recovery over the short term and would inflict permanent damage.”

The officer who arrested Howard Hyde acknowledged Tuesday that he used a colleague’s material to prepare paperwork after the mentally ill man was tasered, reversing testimony from yesterday at a fatality inquiry.
Halifax Regional Police Constable Jonathan Edwards said Monday that he had ânot accessedâ his colleague’s supplemental report. He wrote his own supplemental, he said, after accompanying Mr. Hyde to hospital. This was about an hour after Special Constable Gregory McCormick, who actually used the taser on Mr. Hyde, prepared his report.
Questioned about the numerous similarities between their accounts, Constable Edwards suggested Monday it was a coincidence.
On Tuesday, though, he was questioned by police lawyer Sandra MacPherson-Duncan. After establishing that officers aren’t graded on their creative writing, and that he wouldn’t ever copy a colleague’s notes, she returned to the issue of cribbing the other report…….”
