So, you wouldn’t mind the same standard of perfection being placed on you?
    We’ll all be watching.

  2. So the solution is to lower yourself to the left’s level?

If someone speaks but one language, then that is the language that must be used when talking to them.

When I converse with humans I use language, when I call my dog I whistle……there’s a difference.

No, we want the same level of perfection applied to conservatives as the media applies to liberals.

  7. “o, you wouldn’t mind the same standard of perfection being placed on you?”
Last I checked abcd was an anonymous blog commenter and Pelosi was making decisions that Americans will have to live with for a generation. Decisions about numbers that she clearly doesn’t comprehend. I couldn’t make that mistake without instantly correcting it. Anymore than I could say “It’s good to be in New Pennsylvania” like Obama did. This bill is a looting of the treasury. I don’t even think that Nancy understands that. She just knows that the financial crisis upped her credit card limit and she is going to spend it.
“Coulter who said America should invade Muslim countries, kill all their leaders then convert them to Christianity.”
She said this a couple of days after her very good friend and fellow right of center talking head Lisa Olsen was killed by self professed Muslim Jihadis. Lisa was on the plane that hit the Pentagon. No slack for the grieving among the Left. Any weapon at hand to attack an enemy. Guess what lefties? You are in charge now and we are going to point out every dirty deal that Barry “What’s this I’m signing again Craig” Obama makes.
Lefties really thought that their pillaging hoards would be greeted with flowers by the red state villagers on their way to loot the treasury.

  8. 500 million. Darn I’m out of work as of right now.
Hey can you guys used a good Fire Medic up north? (-:

  9. She misspoke. Not the first, not the last time.
She was elected in arguably the most left-wing district in the country and she will be able to hold it for as long as she chooses. The dems in the house elected her to be their leader – they must pay a political price for it. If she isn’t the worst and dumbest house leader ever – and there have been some doozies – she’s in the top three.
And she is two heartbeats away from becoming the POTUS…

  10. The real interesting thing would be to see a one hour interview with Pelosi – one that would really probe her level of knowledge on a variety of subjects. Her previous response to the “birth control stimulus package” question was basically incoherent.
A prolonged interview would doubtless lay bare the fact that she has a very poor grasp on important fundamentals.
These economic times call for heavy lifters; really serious people with insight and brains – Frank, Reid, Pelosi – ouch, and shudder.

  11. SYF – so you would be as forgiving if Ms Palin had made such a dumb, stupid, sophomoric mistake?
You can actually see Russia from Alaska, but you can’t even have 100 million unemployed in the Estados Unidos.

  12. That’s really not that funny, actually. There are slips of the tongue and then there’s complete ignorance. I’m sure there are better examples you can dig up, though.

  13. jlc:
If you check your facts, I believe it was Tina Fey who said ‘I can see Russia from my front porch.’
    What was your point?

  14. My goodness. She’s been infected by the Bush Virus!

    not quite teddy
Bush is inflicted by the same malady as Steven Hawkings

  15. Ah yes Pelosi, So much power, so little brains.
I read once that she had two clues, one got lost, the other went looking for it and neither have been seen in the last 40 years.
BTW just how does the most powerful nation on earth keep electing morons?

  16. SYF – Governor Palin said that a person can see Russia from some places in Alaska. Pelosi has been a babbling idiot for over two years now, running the ‘show’ in the House of Congress, in the USA. President Bush used his power as President to keep the USA from moral and financial collapse for 2 years – he is gone now… Governor Palin has a 75% approval rating, in Alaska; Nancy and her clowns about 9%, in the USA. All of the American people are not stupid!

  17. Of all the useless political idiots to defend…
Wasn’t it her who donned the granny ‘maple leaf stenciled’ scarf over her hair on a ME trip a few years back?
She, a free woman, acts submissive when expected to, what a pathetically weak and yielding stance to display. Ah how accommodating she is – for terrorists and tyrants.
Never saw Rice don a scarf like that while conducing political appointments in the ME.
Just an out of touch snobbish wench, with way too much power.

  18. To assess Pelosi’s remarks—as many have done here, spot on—the population of the USA is, in round figures, 304 million.
set you free, I find your holier than thou comments, on more than one thread, both irritating and distasteful. Jesus said, “Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s”. This does not mean giving a saccharine pass to political idiots.
IMO, your Pollyanna-like, shoot-the-messenger routine is becoming quite tiresome and—given the politicians you seem willing to defend, at the expense of their legitimate critics—altogether unmerited.

  19. “don’t we have 500 million crosses burning on the lawns of Prince George right now ?”
Yes we do, Fred, that’s why there are no trees left up here.

  20. lppkout:
I find your comments enlightening … about how imperfect humanity is and how some humans delude themselves into believing that an ability to see weakness in others makes them feel superior.
It’s a phenomenon that comes out quite often when people watch game shows.
The truth is, finding amusement in other peoples’ mistakes seems to me a sign of immaturity.
Not only that, it’s at an intellectual level mainly exhibited by proponents of left wing politics.
Conservatives have to learn to rise above the left-wing sliming, otherwise they themselves become slimy.
    Any problems with that?

  21. Jema:
Sarah Palin is correct. You can see Russia from some parts of America.
And Nancy Pelosi is a congressional leader, whose approval rating is somewhere around 14%.
That would be congress’s approval rating.
Bush, on the other hand, left office with an approval rating around 27%.
I’m quite aware of the issues.
Would it be too much to ask that, as the best conservative site in North America, that points be made in a civil manner?
With the honour comes some responsibility.
    Where am I wrong?

  22. “Conservatives have to learn to rise above the left-wing sliming, otherwise they themselves become slimy.”
Sure. We have seen what eight years of non stop sliming gets you. The WH and both houses of Congress. Wouldn’t want that. Oh no.

  23. “Conservatives have to learn to rise above the left-wing sliming, otherwise they themselves become slimy.
    Any problems with that?”
With all due respect SYF, your approach of “if you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything at all”, doesn’t work. Ask George Bush. If you let the left slander you on a continual basis without a responce, the general public starts to believe in the innuendos, IMO.

  24. multirec:
Must have missed the part where it was suggested there should be no response to the sliming.
All I’m suggesting is the response must be on a more dignified and mature level than to slime back.
    Otherwise, it’s schoolyard taunting.
You are capable of better. We all are.

I’m sure ABCD would expect that if (s)he attained the office of PM or senior cabinet minister; then that’d be par for the course, and even worse assuming ABCD was Conservative. Pelosi – ardent lefist that she is – has enjoyed a media free ride that doesn’t focus on her gaffes or outright moronic statements (you don’t hear much anymore about her recent theory that fewer births is better for the economy), and is expected to understand and communicate the details.
    See how it works?

  26. set you free, I think I made myself quite clear. We’re not talking day to day behaviour here. Of course, in that regard, we all fall short, and, as far as we reasonably can, should deal charitably with one another in our personal relations. However, to translate that dispensation to politicians, as politicians, is unreasonable.
Why? Politicians are different. They are public figures, who live off the rest of us and benefit from all kinds of perqs: fair enough. However, our politicians are accountable to the rest of us. When they and/or their parties perpetrate skulduggery and/or benefit from both that and the gross double standards of the MSM and other elites, there’s no reason why the rest of us shouldn’t push back—and hard.
How do you think we should be responding to the depredations of Iggy and Pelosi here? Should we be letting them off the hook, somehow? (The discrimination of low expectations?)
I love Kate, Mark Steyn, Ezra Levant, and others who, politically, kick butt, big time.

  27. lookout:
I agree we should all push for smaller governments, those who purport to know how to spend our money better than we know how to spend our money.
I find the use of the word depredations quite interesting in the sense that language often offers clues to the inner workings of a human being.
I’m assuming you understand the dictionary meaning of the word, which is ‘to plunder.’
So, I would conclude that some sense of your discontent is caused by somebody else’s plunder. That type of attitude, when attributed to left-wing politics, is often referred to as ‘victim mentality.’
Perhaps you could explain how Nancy Pelosi committed an act of plunder with her use of ONE incorrect word.
Or, how Iggy plundered anybody but the Liberal Party by choosing not to donate.
    Very perplexing.

  28. By all means, set you free, be pedantic and literal.
You like to give advice. So here’s some: please knock it off.
    Cheers.
P.S. I’m still interested in your defence of Iggy and Pelosi, who have both plundered the trust of the electorates in their respective countries. I repeat myself, “How do you think we should be responding to the depredations of Iggy and Pelosi here? Should we be letting them off the hook, somehow? (The discrimination of low expectations?)”

  29. lookout:
How has Iggy plundered the trust of the Canadian electorate?
Near as I know, he’s never even been a cabinet minister.
It’s important to back up your statements with facts.
    Want to keep digging?

  30. Nancy Pelosi’s botoxed face, eyes bulging, surrounded by her helmet of hair designed to make her appear 30 years younger, gives me the creeps, too.
What planet is she from anyway? I keep waiting for her (Wo)/Men in Black metamorphosis. What is she, really?

  31. Pelosi and Coulter, there is a big difference in position and intent. Ann Coulter can and does say things to bring about reaction and debate. She is bright but sometimes over the top. Pelosi on the otherhand, is a powerful legislator who knows nothing about what she is saying AND has the power to legislate some really stupid ideas.
That my dear leftoids is a huge difference. And that, along with fools like Reed, Frank and the other collection of simpletons can bring the US down to a third world country with the help of the empty suit in the white house.

  32. Iggy hasn’t earned anything in Canada. He’s a poseur and opportunist. That’s why he’s plundered my trust–and that of many other Canadians.

  33. set you free: “Near as I know, he’s never even been a cabinet minister.”
Yeah, and that’s the problem: from no position to top dog … what gives?
By not giving a red cent to his party, what does this say about Iggy’s commitment? I’d say, not much. You put your money where your mouth is, no?
No. Iggy doesn’t even do that. Trust him as the leader of anything, let alone Canada?
    I. DON’T. THINK. SO.

  34. Ahem (clears throat). I don’t wish to be a pest, folks, but I happen to know that Set You Free goes back some time in the history of these virtual parts; so it is on that basis I’d like you to reconsider what his overall argument has been here (in this thread, and at SDA lately): he has, generally speaking, not been disagreeing with what you are saying, he is saddened by the way you are saying it. I agree with him.

  35. So, Vitruvius, you concur, it seems, with syf’s sanctimonious put-downs of all kinds of others who also “[go] back some time in the history of these virtual parts”.
syf has stepped out of the ring to take on the role of self-appointed, judgemental scold on this thread—not in opposition to the politicians being censured, but to SDA regulars and others who agree with the censure—and you weigh in with approval of the scold. That’s your right, but I find your partisanship quite astonishing and most disappointing.
If those of us at this thread, who have had some harsh words for self-serving politicians, have caused syf such angst, I guess he must be constantly “saddened” by the pithy way in which Kate regularly expresses her opinions.
No one forces syf to read the “unpleasant” comments of the faithful here—we’re not talking trolls. So, my question is, why does such a sensitive, irenic soul continue to hang around?
(As I’ve said before, “Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s”. syf seems to be confused: this is a political blog, not a Sunday School picnic. I thought, Vitruvius, that you might have supported this thesis: I’m truly gobsmacked by your comments to the contrary.)

  36. Vit:
Absolutely bang-on analysis of my position today.
It may be just be my quirk, but I believe there are three levels of discourse … about things, about people and about ideas.
Sadly, much of the tone here lately has fallen tragically short of intelligent discourse of ideas and has degenerated into gossip, where it becomes important to point out and laugh at flaws in others (people level) to satisfy some perverted sense of self-importance.
That level of discourse is shameful to conservative tradition, at least as I understand it.
Although it is common to name-call and taunt on left-wing sites, some here have tragically turned into what they claim to hate.

  37. Sure reasonable debate is ok here, Lookout, unless and except of course when you would rather claim to know of that to which I would in your opinion presumably concur. On the other hand, if you care: ask me for clarification of my now, as you characterize it, apparently seemingly contrarian comment.
Don’t yell at me, don’t presume to speak for me: I’ve got better things to do. Which was my point about a particular matter of the signal to noise ratio in blog comments that I think SYF has been alluding to (though I’ve been wrong before, and as you noted Lookout, it’s a tricky matter to pull off at best).
Anyway, I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it, remember: I come here to think, not to argue.
And of course, unreasonable debate is ok here too: up to a point 😉

  38. set you free….
your tight assed pompous ‘tude is offensively sad making…how dare you get in my face slagging the PMSH and yet defending the sorriest bunch of malfeasing crooked fiduciarily incompetent felons the country has endured for 100 years…
as i say, you sadden me…to think this great Dominion can create a metrosexual of your triste inducing calibre sends a thrill DOWN my leg.
so like how about that coffee i mentioned earlier today ?
    my treat…

  39. john:
Could you point out where I’ve slagged PMSH?
Where were felons for the last 100 years defended?
Those types of delusional ramblings are what bring down the quality of discourse on this blog.
I mean, do you actually believe the type of garbage you’re writing?
