I was reading the CBC (I know, I’m a glutton for punishment) about the big storm poised to smack Nova Scotia (actually Yarmouth already has 8 cm down) and some commenter laid down this gem:
“Global warming could, in fact, trigger another ice age. That’s the worry.”
So now when the next ice age comes, the warmists can blame the ice on warming. See how that works?

Politically, it was not a good move to appoint Mike Duffy to the Senate.
He was a far more valuable asset to PM Harper and the CPC in his talk daily show.
He had the only show that allowed for the CPC agenda to get publicized and known to the public without the obvious scorn and contempt that the CBC, and the MSM in general, has for anything conservative.
Let me put it this way.
What if ‘Don Newman 2′ is appointed as the new “Mike Duffy Show’ host?
Or Giggles Taber? Or Robert (Lets get rid of Harper) Fyfe?
Besides, a crap kicker like Ezra could have bought a potato farm in PEI (or the Bridge?) and would have been a much better choice.
Man, what could have benn funner than Ezra bulling around in that staid china shop Senate?

N.B. government will open door to private health clinics in 2009
“Health Minister Michael Murphy will continue his reforms to the health system in 2009 with additional cuts to departmental administration and unveiling legislation that will set the stage for private health clinics.
Murphy said the legislation will settle who is allowed to own private clinics as well as address any potential conflicts of interest. But the health minister maintains the use of private clinics will not violate the Canada Health Act.
“We respect that and we will adhere to that,” Murphy said.
“Publicly-funded health care is going to prevail, but that doesn’t mean that every piece of equipment will be owned by the public nor every particular person treating you will be employed by the public sector.”
The legislation will be introduced after the legislature returns in March. Murphy said the proposed law will stipulate who can sell privately-delivered health services to the province.”

hardboiled: “Harper could’ve taken the high road. He could’ve chosen not to appoint partisan bagmen and insiders.” Why would he do that? The Senate is all about partisan, patronage appointments. Why should Harper appear to give it legitimacy by breaking with the well-established tradition. If people don’t like this approach, they can vote Conservative and help bring about reform.
