not that anyone would notice but a Liberal was dumped as a candidate today for being an anti-native racist. The media has kept it quiet, but this should be huge. Anyone? Anyone? I can’t believe that Dion is going to get away with this …

“Bedard, a former radio host, proposed at the time of the 1990 Oka crisis that the army use force to lift Mohawk Warrior barricades, even if that meant as many as 150 deaths.
This week he told Quebec City’s Le Soleil daily newspaper that, “maybe we should have done it because 17 years later, it’s still the same.”
Nothing about this in the news broadcasts, though blanket coverage of Sparrow’s remarks. Huh?

What Was Feminism?
The media treatment of Sarah Palin reveals four ugly truths about the new feminism.
By Victor Davis Hanson
The media went hysterical over Sarah Palin, governor of Alaska and Republican nominee for vice president. She may have appeared to the public as an independent, capable professional woman, but to a particular elite she couldn’t possibly be a real feminist or even a serious candidate. And that raises questions about what is — and what is not — feminism.
Feminism grew out of the 1960s to address sexual inequality. At an early age, I was mentored on most feminist arguments by my late mother. She graduated from Stanford Law School in the 1940s but then was offered only a single job as a legal secretary. Instead, she went back home to raise three children with my father, a teacher and farmer, and only returned to legal work in her 40s. She was eventually named a California superior court judge and, later, a state appellate court justice. More at:

*Ricardo Lopez — remember him?
He was a Tory MP in the 80s and 90s. He also had some controversial opinions. He called for an end to social assistance and Employment Insurance for those who are able to work; during the Oka crisis he suggested natives should move north to Labrador; and he voted against all abortion unless the life of the mother is in danger.
Today, he’s the Liberal candidate in Beauharnois-Salaberry, south of Montreal. But he’s not a very high profile candidate if you judge by the Liberal web site.
Click on his profile and very little information appears, not even a picture.

From today’s letters to the editor.
Feeling somewhat masochistic, I wandered over to the CBC’s webpage to get a blood pressure rise from their election coverage.
Imagine my surprise when I tapped in the URL and up came the front page for our national, publicly funded brawwwwdcaster and found I had to wait for an add hoping to push Radio2 to finish to see a quick flash about the election disappear into an add for a global warming mini-series.
Could they not have at least a direct link to their oh so balanced coverage on the main page? Maybe next to the story about jury selection in the OJ Simpson trial?

Caroline Glick, Column One: When dictatorships end with a whisper
THE IRANIAN revolution is frequently recalled as a cautionary tale for the West as Americans, Israelis and Europeans continue to view unpopular, yet ostensibly pro-Western Arab autocracies as stable. Such warnings have been uttered with increasing frequency in recent years in regards to Egypt, whose pro-Western dictator Hosni Mubarak now enters the twilight of his reign…
Sally Satel, M.D., Addiction Does Not Discriminate? Wrong
The democratization of addiction may be an appealing message, but it does not reflect reality. Teenagers with drug problems are not like those who never develop them. Adults whose problems persist for decades manifest different traits from those who get clean.
So while anyone can theoretically become an addict, it is more likely the fate of some–among them women sexually abused as children, truant and aggressive young men, children of addicts, people with diagnosed depression and bipolar illness, and groups including American Indians and the poor…
Someone should send the quotation from Jefferson to the Human Rights Commissions and Tribunals.
Richard John Neuhaus, A New Order of Religious Freedom
“The opinions of men are not the object of civil government, nor under its jurisdiction.” And yet civil government is ordered by, and derives its legitimacy from, the opinions of the citizenry. Precisely here do we discover the novelty of the American experiment, the unique contribution of what the Founders called this novus ordo seclorum, a new order for the ages. Never before in human history had any government denied itself jurisdiction, whether limited or total, over that on which it entirely depends, the opinion of its people…
Here’s a wonderful thoughtful 5 part video, Andrew Klavan’s interview at NRO:
Andrew Klavan says the Left has long argued that Western civilization — from its embrace of capitalism to its foundations in Judeo-Christian doctrine to its traditions of personal liberty — is in error and needs to go. But Klavan says “that argument has failed spectacularly, in every way,” and that when you do not relinquish a failed argument all you have left is insult and ridicule.

Stephen Barr, On the Edge of Discovery
The deep puzzle, however, is that the Higgs field “ought” to be much, much more intense than it is…
…If we live in a multiverse, it is possible that, in different places in the multiverse, the Higgs field has different strengths. In most places it might have its natural strength. But in rare places it may happen to have the much smaller value that it has where we are. And—it can be argued convincingly—only in those rare places can there be life. We see a strangely small value of the Higgs field, because we are living in a highly atypical part of the multiverse, namely a part where the Higgs field has a value that allows life to exist…

Bill Levinson, “Veni, Vidi, Deus Vicit:” Jan Sobieski Day, September 12
On this date in 1683, Central Europe was on the edge of conquest by an Islamic supremacist army. Turkish miners had already undermined at least one bastion of Vienna’s fortress, and only a heroic response by defenders who actually extinguished an explosive charge’s fuze prevented a fatal breach in the defenses. Within days if not hours, militant and expansionist Islam would hold sway over the heart of Europe. That was when the Polish Army showed up, and King Jan Sobieski III was in command…
Aside from the irritating nasal whine, the talking in tongues/book banning/cultish/superstitious wing-nuttery, Palin didn’t even know what the Bush Doctrine was until Gibson explained it to her. And this is who the small dead nutbars want a heartbeat away from her finger on the trigger???

my goodness, manny, but you are one deluded guy, aren’t you? It’s easy to write posts with a list of insults and opinions. Why don’t you instead try to argue about your opinions – list them and defend them. Otherwise – they are empty.
What book banning?
What ‘talking in tongues’?
What ‘cultish’?
What ‘superstitious wing-nuttery’?
What ‘Bush doctrine’?
With regard to the latter, you can’t condense an entire 8 years of policies into two words. Do you mean Bush’s approach to the economy? To terrorism? To the environment? What are you talking about?
Manny, could you explain how WE are the nutbar, and not you?
Yup, just to drive leftards like you, manny, into mental anguish and untreatable insanity.
If indeed Lizzie may and Dion have signed a non- aggression pact of sorts where she is committed to telling her supporters to vote Liberal in ridings where the Greens don’t have a hope, she’s a Liberal supporter. This means harper and Layton were right to object to her being in the debates.
We need to keep this story going.
We also need to put Robert Thibeault’s statement re making a snide reference to Harper being a pig saying , “put a sweater on a pig, its still a pig”.
The story about Sparrow is blown out of proportion. The father of that soldier killed in Afghanistan is a staunch Liberal and refers to Dion as his leader and a favourite of the news media because he’s not pleased with Harper’s statement about the end date.
There have been almost 100 of our troops killed in that place, why is this one so political? Who started it?
Such desperation among the Opposition, they’re close to self destruction trying to destroy Harper who’s now at 41% and leading across the country.
Let them keep on playing their games while Harper takes care of the real issues.
And manny? Gibson was out to lunch about what he considers the Bush Doctrine to be. Even Wiki is closer to the truth, and that is just sad.
The recent hurricane that hit Haiti has left that country in quite a difficult state and news footage shows the plight of those who need help.
The most pressing need seems to be for drinking water.
Without a lot of fanfare, and with minimal press coverage ,our gov’t is taking care of business.
The DART team apparently is going to Haiti.
The announcement was made Sept 10 and an advance team was on the ground in Haiti Spt 9.
This is what competent government looks like folks.
This is Mr. Harper ‘gettin’ it done.’

Justin feels Pierre’s presence every day… SO DOES THE REST OF THE COUNTRY.
Liz J: “Such desperation among the Opposition…”
And, I’d add, among their MSM attack dogs.
I’ve never seen such a pile-on in my life. I watched a lot of TV yesterday and couldn’t believe how the MSM turned the focus of this election campaign purely on the so-called “gaffes” of the CPC campaign and then blamed the CPC for it. They whined, “If these gaffes hadn’t happened, we wouldn’t have to be reporting them,” as they blew them out of all proportion and repeatedly replayed them–just in case any of their viewers missed them.
No similar treatment of the equal number of gaffes on the Liberals’ and the Greens’ part because they’re their team: “Go, guys, go! We’ll give you cover.”
I’m disgusted by the sheer pettiness and mean-spiritedness of the MSM. They’re not doing their job; they’re being totally unprofessional. They’re singling out one political party for annihilation, if they can manage it, while they coddle their chosen parties and swath them in cotton batten. ‘Only problem for them is, I don’t think it’s going to work. ‘They turn PM Stephen Harper into the undisputed underdog in this race and the whole thing’s going to blow up in their faces.
‘Same thing’s happening with Sarah Palin in the States and I think the public is getting wise to what’s going on. It’s been proven that she did not ban books in Wasilla. Here’s the link (snopes says it’s false too):
http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2008-09-09-Palin-book-ban_N.htm
You’re right, ET. Manny’s got to do better than levy cheap shots at Governor Palin. And the Canadian media’s going to have to do the same up here to regain any shred of professionalism they may ever have had.

I don’t quite get it. You’d think that, after his being PM for going on 3 years, they’d spell his name right. But in a Sun Media/CP report (at least the picture thereof), they spell the PM’s first name “Stephan”. (Freudian slip, anyone?)
The story itself was kind of funny, as it was a “star” (word used **very** lightly) from 22 minutes, yelling about how she would like to love Mr. Harper. She was detained and then released; apparently (the best part) the PM met with her in private (with Mrs. Harper in attendance), and his first line: “So, you like handcuffs?”
